# Is the Zoom Workplace free plan enough for teams whose meetings run past 40 minutes?

Something I've been mapping out is whether the Zoom Workplace free plan is enough for teams whose meetings run past 40 minutes. Zoom's own support has described a uniform 40-minute limit for all meetings hosted by Basic (free) users, covering one-to-one meetings, group meetings and Personal Meeting Rooms. Within that window the free plan covers a lot, including breakout rooms, screen sharing and saved chat, and across recent reviews, teams with longer sessions either reconnect to continue or move to a paid plan to remove the limit.

For video conferencing on a free plan, meetings seem to fall into three groups:

Short check-ins. They finish inside the limit without anyone noticing it.

Workshops and classes. Breakout rooms and screen sharing are where people get real value, and these sessions often run longer.

Regular team meetings that run over. This is usually the point where a paid plan comes up.

The free plan clearly suits short, frequent meetings and gives teams a proper trial before upgrading, so the decision is made on real use.

How do you plan a longer session on the free plan? And what made the paid plan worth it for your team, if you upgraded?

The free plan was perfect for our short weekly check-ins. Breakout rooms were what convinced us to upgrade once our workshops got longer.
