# How do employees on the Remote platform get employment documents that aren't in the standard self-service set?

Something I've been mapping out is how employees on the Remote platform get employment documents outside the standard self-service set, like a pension certificate or an employment letter in a particular format. The routine documents are self-serve: payslips arrive on time with a clear breakdown of taxes and deductions, and time off and expenses sit in the same place. For anything less common, the route mentioned across reviews is asking support or HR directly, and uploading a non-standard document during onboarding is where people would like more options.

On global employment platforms, document requests seem to fall into three groups:

Standard payroll documents. Self-serve, from the employee's own account.

Documents a local institution asks for. These go to support or HR, ideally with the required format attached.

Onboarding documents that don't match a standard category. These are the ones people want an upload option for.

Remote clearly sits on the self-service side for the first group, which covers most of what employees need month to month. The other two depend on the country, which is why they route to a person.

If you've needed a document Remote doesn't issue by default, how did you request it? And how far ahead of your deadline did you start?

Do any teams keep a running list of the country-specific documents employees have needed before? Feels like it would help the next hire in that country know what to ask for.
