Yes, Whereby is generally considered a safe video conferencing platform. Here's a breakdown of its security features:
Encryption: Whereby uses strong encryption methods to protect your communication. They rely on end-to-end encryption for audio and video streams, meaning only participants in the call can access the content.
Secure Infrastructure: Whereby utilizes secure and reliable data centers that meet industry standards for security and uptime. These data centers are often SOC 2 audited and ISO27001 certified, signifying adherence to rigorous security protocols.
No Download Required: Unlike some platforms, Whereby is entirely browser-based, eliminating the need to download software that might introduce security vulnerabilities. They leverage best practices for browser security to further enhance protection.
Focus on Privacy: Whereby doesn't store video or chat conversations on their servers. Recordings, if enabled on paid plans, are done locally on the user's device and not stored by Whereby. This minimizes the risk of data breaches.
Transparency: Whereby is transparent about their security practices. They publish a Security Policy outlining their commitment to data protection and user privacy.

Yes, there are no downloads required to use Whereby since it's entirely browser-based, and their web pages employ best practices for browser security.
This is in stark contrast to several popular video conferencing software platforms which require downloads and run these "behind the scenes", sometimes even disabling or ending-around your computer's security settings. These other platforms have *frequent* security vulnerabilities introduced, some of which can lead to ransomeware and other forms of cyber attacks.
One of the major reasons why our team urges using Whereby – even with our large enterprise customers – is for the sake of substantially better security practices.

Whereby is a safe organisation. The product is also safe - one of the unique features is that the "room/s" where you hold your meetings are URLs so no need for user ids or passwords or downloading software. The feature for making this safe is that you can "lock" the door to the room so that anyone wanting entry has to "knock". Never had any problems with intruders.
