Product engineering services providers help organizations design, develop, validate, industrialize, and optimize physical and connected products across the product lifecycle. These services include product engineering, embedded engineering, digital engineering, manufacturing engineering, and lifecycle engineering to support product innovation, manufacturing readiness, and production optimization.
Organizations use product engineering services providers to accelerate product innovation, improve engineering efficiency, reduce time-to-market, support manufacturing readiness, and optimize product performance. Typical capabilities include product design, CAD modeling and simulation, prototyping, embedded systems engineering, testing and validation, design for manufacturability (DFM), production process engineering, industrial automation, robotics engineering, digital twin development, connected product engineering, and sustainment engineering.
This category is intended for providers delivering hands-on engineering and product development services for physical products, industrial systems, manufacturing environments, and connected devices. Unlike general IT services, consulting services, or software development services, product engineering services providers are evaluated based on their ability to support the engineering lifecycle from concept and design through manufacturing readiness and lifecycle optimization.
To qualify for inclusion in the Product Engineering Services category, a services provider must:
- Offer product engineering or engineering R&D services and support physical products, connected products, or industrial systems
- Provide product engineering capabilities such as product design, CAD modeling, simulation, prototyping, embedded engineering, systems engineering, engineering validation, or connected product engineering
- Include manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, or production engineering services
- Demonstrate engineering lifecycle expertise spanning multiple phases of product development, manufacturing readiness, or product sustainment
- Serve engineering-intensive industries such as automotive, aerospace, industrial manufacturing, electronics, energy, telecommunications, or medical devices
- Not operate solely as an IT consulting, staffing, reseller, or software implementation provider
