Angela, your company has probably set its anti-malware software for high sensitivity, which itself is not unwise, but because it hasn't been told that the PDFelement updater is OK it stops it. Your IT dept. should be able to "whitelist" the updater, if they can be convinced it's in the company's (and their) best interests.

G2 is a user-to-user group which can be a great help with learning new functions, etc. but for technical issues like functions which don't work as they should (or as you expect), as well as for license and billing questions, your best and possibly only solution is to communicate, not with other users, but with WonderShare's own support staff. To reach them, just go to the menu at the top of the PDFelement screen, click or tap on "Help" and then on "Support." You can also go directly to the Support Center at http://support.wondershare.com/. I hope that helps!

Maybe look at the fonts that you have open. InDesign might be struggling with a bad font or maybe if you have a large amount of fonts open, it could cause the sluggish startup.
