  ### 2. Excellent Right-to-Left Language Support for Arabic Translation

**What do you like best about XTM Cloud?**

As an Arabic translator, I have been working with several agencies in the United States that use XTM. I particularly appreciate its strong support for right-to-left languages, as this can be quite problematic on other online platforms. I understand that XTM also supports advanced AI tools such as ChatGPT within its machine translation features. However, I have not yet had the opportunity to try the ChatGPT plugin, as the company I currently work with typically relies on Amazon’s machine translation services.

**What do you dislike about XTM Cloud?**

There is a common issue across most translation tools. When the target text includes both right-to-left characters (such as Arabic letters) and left-to-right characters (such as English letters), the system often becomes confused about the text direction. As a result, it may not correctly determine whether the text should flow from left to right or from right to left.

**What problems is XTM Cloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In the past, I used to download the target file after completing the translation to make sure the text direction was correct. This meant I had to download the file every time I made an edit or change, just to see how it would appear in the final document. Recently, they introduced an in-text review feature that allows me to see all changes reflected immediately in the target text and preview exactly how they will appear in the final document.

**What do you like best about XTM Cloud?**

I’ve been using XTM Cloud for over ten years, and I’ve come to truly appreciate its reliability and clean interface. What I like most are the match functions, which greatly speed up translation and review while clearly identifying variants. 

The preview and Excel export options are also extremely useful for proofreading. 

Although it’s not the most intuitive or feature-rich CAT tool, its minimalism makes it efficient, and it actually offers more valuable functions than it first appears.

**What do you dislike about XTM Cloud?**

The way filters are applied in XTM Cloud has always seemed confusing to me, and the QA feature can be a bit intrusive when it flags terms that aren’t real errors. 

I’d also welcome a refreshed user interface; but please, keep the minimalist design, as it’s one of its greatest strengths!

**What problems is XTM Cloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I need to manage glossaries from different accounts within the same project, and XTM Cloud’s tagging features allow me to do this quickly and intuitively. Highlighted terms in the source text and the terminology tab also help ensure approved terms are consistently applied during translation and review.

Since it's usually marketing content, a single segment can go through many iterations over time. The Match and Concordance features make it easy to quickly identify variations and select the most relevant version based on date or author.

**What do you like best about XTM Cloud?**

I like that files can now be managed separately, open and close tasks particularly. The updates in the memories are faster now. Interface is still very friendly and clean, which improves efficiency.

**What do you dislike about XTM Cloud?**

Project analyzing times have improved, however it is quite often that memories are not being picked up correctly. Additionally it would be great to have more detailed information about updates as any changes in settings might have an impact on projects. Finally, I’d like that workbench could be more intuitive for newly onboarded linguists, using more commands or bold letter in the tabs or file names.

**What problems is XTM Cloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Now XTM is solving the issue with cards for proofreading tasks for our vendors. We're still looking forward for them. As well as for the costs.

From the linguistic side, they could improve inlines, because sometimes it generates problemas while dounloading target documents.

I love how XTM Cloud makes my translation work extremely easy, especially with its automatic memory service. The ease of using it is fantastic, and the setup process was straightforward. The memory feature is excellent—it recalls repeated words which saves me a lot of time in my translation business.

**What do you dislike about XTM Cloud?**

I don’t like that when I minimize the window in XTM Cloud, it doesn’t automatically adjust the translation view to fit within the smaller window.

  ### 9. Once an industry leader, now steadily falling behind

**What do you like best about XTM Cloud?**

The projects overview is a great and easy to use. Setting up projects is easily done and the use of templates for this is really a time-saver. The workflow design is flexible and powerful and I think the majority of use cases can be realized with this. The support is mostly helpful and quick in response and their support setting up templates is good. Their API is extensive, compensating for the lack of native integrations.

**What do you dislike about XTM Cloud?**

Everything related to machine and AI translation is absolutely disastrous. You can merely specify which MTs you can use, but you cannot do much in terms of prompt design, tonality, the use of XTM's own TM and glossary for MT fuzzy completion let alone translation. An AI bot to support translators honing their translation is nowhere near. While other tools heavily invest in this field of functionalities, XTM is incapable of joining this evolution. And this for many years and for what I can tell for the next years to come. It does not offer any sort of cross-language communication on a segment level, only on a project level. The few integrations they offer out of the box are pricey and often not functioning as expected. Some bugs reported months and years ago are still not fixed, heavily affecting our day to day business.

To put the icing on the cake, the pricing increased over the years while they are not able to implement industry standard features in a steady flow.

Streamline and automate translations for software, customer service, marketing,  and accompanied materials.

**What do you like best about XTM Cloud?**

I find the Workbench to be simple enough to navigate for a user who's not necessarily experienced. It's quite convenient to work with XTM cloud as I do not need to rely on a device or a place and I can be flexible while working.

**What do you dislike about XTM Cloud?**

There are times, when certain functions, such as adding terms to the personal dictionary, doesn't work as it should. The workbench has a bit of a problem in recognizing verbs, specially in imperative. It's not a dealbreaker by any means, but it means a lot of false positives during the LQA process.

**What problems is XTM Cloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps centralize all the material coming from different teams, which have different formats, and being able to deliver the project directly. The fact we can connect XTM with Figma or other platforms is very useful and streamlines the process.

Using Rigi helps us improving our localization workflows as it makes us faster, increases the quality of our localization as even external translators are now finally able to localize in context, decreases our workload (one screenshot which is made for all languages - how cool is that?!) and the number of raised queries! I could go on, but I recommend you try it out yourself! ;) But this is only the technical part: Collaborating with the XTM guys is always fun and very nice! 5 out of 5 stars for the support and commitment of everybody working at XTM!

The UI is not always very intuitive, but that is not that much of a problem as you get used to it and you also can ask the XTM guys for help!

XTM makes it possible to manage everything efficiently. I appreciate that we can handle all our various localization workflows in a single platform as our workflows are quite diverse and need significant customization. Additionally, we utilize all the supporting features in XTM, including translation memory management, termbases, and business reporting.

**What do you dislike about XTM Cloud?**

If you don’t have a localization engineer or a highly tech-savvy localization specialist, you may need to depend more on the XTM Support team to fully utilize all the customization features in XTM. The interface can become overwhelming at times because there are so many features in XTM, especially if you are new to it.

**What problems is XTM Cloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use XTM to localize various types of content, from software and marketing materials to customer experience content. This allows us to integrate XTM with all our company's CMS platforms, streamlining and automating localization workflows. Our automation covers processes such as machine translation as well as the management of highly creative content.

**What do you like best about XTM Cloud?**

I love the fact that allows me and my team to have full access to all translation memories and other linguistic assets. It is very intuitive and easy to use, set up was also straightforward.
My team and I use it every day, and it has allowed us to switch from a manual copy and paste approach to fully automated imports thanks to its connectors.
Whenever we have an issue we find it's promptly addressed and resolved in most cases.

**What do you dislike about XTM Cloud?**

I think XTM could use some refinements within the Workbench and in the file management interface that would elevante the user experience (e.g. ability to select multiple segments at once in Workbench and ability to export final files individually).

**What problems is XTM Cloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allows translation team to access all translation management.
Integrates with key systems and avoids a lot of manual work for several teams.
Enables the team to manage the whole localisation workflow.

**What do you like best about XTM Cloud?**

The interface is lean and pleasant, you can personalize workflow from detailed/manual to highly automated, it is vendor-neutral and translators are not obliged to use it. Easy to use.

**What do you dislike about XTM Cloud?**

Some functions are not available to translators who work offline: not possible to create hybrid projects mixing offline and online without losing the possibility to modify text format. The PM view could be improved (cannot drag projects to show the ones I want first). Would be nice to reanalyze just one file and/or language.
For AI integration: I would like to add not only the general Deepl version, but also the specialized ones, for ex. the Legal translations Deepl version, and to activate it on some projets.

**What problems is XTM Cloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They have created some specific macros for me to treat atypical files for some customers. In general, the customer service is very quick and offers timely solutions.

XTM is incredibly practical when it comes to TM and terminology management, including in collaboration with the customer. TMs and terminology can be effortlessly imported and exported.

Additionally, the user interface is super easy to use for translators and project managers alike. The option to create templates is also a very useful feature that can save a lot of time when creating projects.

If any issues occur or if we have any questions, XTM support is always quick to respond and help, which we very much appreciate. The webinars provided by XTM also contain a wealth of practical tips and information.

We do not have any specific things that we do not like about XTM.

**What problems is XTM Cloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Alignments can be quickly and easily generated, even with translations not already stored in the TM. The presentation of the exported file is very clear, allowing the user to quickly review the output, and import it into the TM.

The option to extract terminology bi-lingually during alignment simplifies the terminology management process, which is equally true of the terminology extraction procedure when creating a project.
We can simply create an appropriate account for those customers, who want to personally attend to the terminology management aspect. It enables them to keep their terminology constantly updated.

**What do you like best about XTM Cloud?**

We mainly like XTM for how easily it lets us cooperate with translators. No investment is needed from translators and they can smoothly work together with a shared translation memory. Translators can also see the context of translations, which is vital for accuracy. Project startup and task assignment are very straightforward. Translation progress can easily be tracked. At the same time, no limits on languages used and a clear subscription model make it financially attractive.

XTM's QA features could be improved as it's hard to locate and correct errors. Context display could appear more quickly.

Lots of features, customization and options. I like that it is possible to configure workflows to suit my organization's translation business model.

Setup time can be long and complex for a new language or project, depending on how complex the customized workflows are.
Projects seem to automatically become archived if there is no activity, and need to enabled again on a regular basis until completion.
Slow connections sometimes, impacting our linguists.

XTM lets my organization manage translations from English into to about 20 languages and growing. I can define access to external users (freelancers, LSPs, volunteer translators) fairly easily. Our volunteer members are able to navigate and learn the tool quickly.

  ### 21. A terrible tool that will entrap you

**What do you like best about XTM Cloud?**

I have worked with XTM for 7+ years and there is not much to praise. I would never recommend it to anyone unless bribed or coerced.

Still, here are a few XTM areas that are fine – but they probably also apply to other CAT tools:

- XTM has all regular CAT tool features but it's cloud-based, software-free.

- Customer support is always responsive
- Customer support can sometimes prove competent. Not always: it greatly varies depending on who you get. Do note that a functional Customer Support is the least of what XTM should offer, considering all the issues that require you contact the Customer Support.

- The UI of the 'workbench' itself (= where translators work) is nice because it is customizable. You can choose which secondary windows to display, and where, how big they are, etc.

- Rare specific features are valuable and well-thought. Examples: 
   * converting specific bits of code into inline tags such as: [1], [2], etc.
   * importing pictures, then in the workbench  (= your translation workplace), pictures are displayed next to corresponding string IDs.

**What do you dislike about XTM Cloud?**

I have worked with XTM from 2018 to 2025.

Let me preface this by saying there is a reason why XTM is better rated here on G2 than on other reviewing platforms. As a consequence, you should not trust any positive reviews about XTM – not here, not anywhere either I suppose.

Also, here is why I am not the problem here, but XTM is:
- Many issues I am about to report were initially reported or confirmed by my colleagues and/or LSPs
- I have been satisfied—or even highly satisfied—of most OTHER softwares that I have used during my employment. I am NOT an overly critical person. I am being critical of XTM specifically because it is objectively a bad-to-mediocre software on most accounts.

Note that I have e-met some very pleasant and competent people working at XTM, especially at Customer Support. I am truly sorry that the product they work on is ultimately terrible, despite their best efforts and professional skills.



_____________I WAS HELD HOSTAGE BY XTM FOR 7 YEARS
XTM purposefully format their Translation Memory to be incompatible with other CAT tools, should you ever want to leave XTM – which you will because it is truly a bad tool. When I realized that I was trapped using XTM forever, it was too late. It at least felt like that: there were too much sunken cost in XTM already.

Today my company is still trapped in this situation; I have never found a clean way out of it. What has changed is that I am just about to leave my company—of my own accord. That is why I can finally "tell the world!" – or rather, tell the 7 people who may stumble upon this review one day.

This should be enough to convince you to never use XTM. If not:



_____________XTM IS AN OCEAN OF ISSUES

* There are too many issues for me to even remember most of them 
* Many issues can be seen as severe. And those includes issues that I have reported many times but that were left hanging for all those years
* More frequently, issues are minor QOL issues – but these are very tiring, as you experience them several times daily
* Yes, you can BYPASS most of XTM's shortcomings. But it implies wasting time on using suboptimal processes compared to what you could reasonably expect of a CAT tool

Generally speaking: XTM blatantly lacks customization and "trust" in users. As a result:

    => DOZENS of Customer Support tickets every year.
Many features that should be accessible to you as an admin/translator are absent. Other such features do exist but are out of your reach. You will need to open a Customer Support ticket. For instance, this applies to basic configuration changes, or creating/modifying simple filters; deleting files bugged during initial analysis, etc.

     => Basic features hidden away or displayed under unintuitive/inexact categories
They're here, but in dark places. That means they'll require many clicks to be reached. For instance, imagine a CAT tool with no direct button to generate a target file. In XTM there is no such button accessible in 1 click. From your 'Workflow' view, you are still 1 tab and 4 clicks away from downloading your target file. 


Concrete examples of shortcomings:

      => XTM will severely hinders low-to-mid end computers' performance.
Many of the translators I have worked with have reported this issue. They noted how it is so much truer with XTM than any other CAT tools they are used to work with.

        => Customer support is often incompetent
It greatly varies depending on who you get. Quite often, the support employee will fail to even understand your request—instead of looking into it, they may simply discard it as an impossibility. But if you try again a few weeks later, you'll get another person who might just find a solution.

      => As a CAT tool: integrated spell checker malfunctions
Take a second to picture this farce. In any CAT tool, your primary goal is to WRITE SOME WORDS. Yet XTM as a CAT tool fails to provide you with a spelling checker. That's the most basic text-related feature? Anybody's phone handles that perfectly well.

In some languages such as FR, the Spell Checker actually works nowadays. But for other languages such as TR and PL, there are so many false positives that the Spell Checker is flat unsuable, purely a nuisance; translators will have to turn it off.

XTM is aware that their Spell Checker is a joke so they'll offer you to call for Microsoft Word Spellchecker. But guess what: it never worked for me. So at some point I gave up and I spent years translating without an integrated Spell Checker, which is insane.

      => As a CAT tool: QA checks malfunction
Similar as above: too many false positives. Very soon you just end up turning off the QA feature.

      => As a CAT tool: numerous inline tags + fuzzies: not functional
If you have code intertwined with your actual text, AND you often apply tweaks, really do not use XTM. I'll spare you any more details but basically, simple tasks that should be automated are not. Instead you'll have a lot of manual work to do—and to pay for.

      => As a CAT tool: basic value automatic replacements: not functional
Very similar to the above issue.
There is a feature that automatically edits certain fuzzy matches: matches where only ONE value has been changed in otherwise identical text. XTM should provide users with the choice to also use this feature when more values have changed. As simple as it is, this feature would have saved a lot of money to my company over the years.

      => As a CAT tool: AI editing fuzzy matches: not functional
The AI, GPT for instance, will retranslate everything from scratch instead of actually using the fuzzy match as a base and partly tweaking it like in English.

      => As a CAT tool: No home-grown GPT model
It's just not a thing. You'll have to stick to the basic GPT model, which can prove very weak.

There's an in-line tag feature that is mandatory for software localization.

I like XTM because it's easy to use and it can support a great number of tasks thanks to it's features, integrations and connectors. The Customer Support is reliable and quick in their response.

Cost. Some features I consider essential and that should be included in the main plan, not with an added cost. In the end I can't use XTM for many tasks because I'd need to pay for each feature separately and it would be too expensive. An example is Dashboards.

The sluggishness that happens on the public cloud, when it takes a regular or small project, hours to load is an issue that causes slow-ups in out process.

XTM helps us maintain our consistency with it's translation memory, and we are moving forward with increased machine translation, some via Intento, and XTM is helping us with that. They are also investigating areas of improvement since we will likely have an increased amount of throughput with MT projects. Its flexibility. You can do projects for all departments in your company, each with its format and customization. The number of formats supported is very good too. Connectivity with other tools is appreicated. The support is quite reactive.

**What do you dislike about XTM Cloud?**

It can be too complex sometimes to find what you want. And bugs. We have an issue that is fixed and came back for the third or fourth time in a few years, for example. Bust most if the times, the support helps us and keeps us posted on updates.

**What problems is XTM Cloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

On my particular side, not on the company level then, XTM helped me go from manual translation in files, with track changes in the source to find the updates to a translation memory that helps a lot. I enjoy not to have to open each file manually and check and delete the track changes, commit to GitHub. Now all that has change and has been automated! I also added the role of project manager on my responsibilities and it's very easy to handle with XTM.

The REST API and out-of-the-box connectors allow us to automate workflows. This combined with the workflow automation and QA checks allow us to localize hundreds of projects every week quickly and to good quality with low touch from our small localization team. 
The XTM support team and account team are very fast to respond to questions.

It can sometimes be difficult to find more advanced features and settings in the UI at times

Inline tags can be very burdensome, sometimes even for documents that seem to be light on formatting.

Having to create a dummy customer and export /import tmx files in order to produce a customized memory.

Issues with the metrics when re-running a file through workflow.

Use of Translation memory is the main solution. Around that the customizable workflows are very useful.

The new system provides navigated paths for users to submit tickets, by filling-out the required information in predetermined fields. This not only allows for improved ticket handling, but also accelerated resolution. Furthermore, the ticketing systems provides our users a much more transparent ticket tracking mechanism, while also enabling them to action on tickets e.g. escalate with the use of a single button. So far from trying to make it harder for you to created tickets - it was the opposite! Poor, very poor customer support. Our CTO was put in touch with a ex translator that might have knows XTM from the point of view of a translator but he had no clue on how to customise the system to parse come of the string content correctly. Advance communication with support was a pain. 

Too expensive for our use. 
We are a startup in the tech sphere with some content for localisation but not much. 
The first sales guy we spoke with understood this and accommodated pricing accordingly. A year later he had left and we were invoice 5 times the same amount. No one had the intelligence to renew the former pricing, we thus left XTM for crowdin. A great move in all aspects.

TM related data was rich, which facilitated clean-up.
