EU data residency in writing. We build AI phone receptionists for small businesses in Greece, and our clients (law offices, and later medical practices) need caller data to stay in the EU. Voximplant gave us a signed confirmation, and support confirmed that calls from callers abroad are still processed in the EU. That was the deciding factor for us.
Control at the code level. VoxEngine lets us write the whole call logic ourselves in JavaScript, which matters when you’re building something a no-code builder can’t do. We connect our own AI endpoint through the Deepgram Voice Agent connector, and the platform gets out of the way.
People who actually answer. Support tickets get real, specific replies, and the team on Discord went as far as chasing a third-party vendor on our behalf. For a one-person company that makes a big difference.
For a niche case like ours (Greek language, EU-only data, our own AI), we haven’t found another platform that covers as much. Greek numbers, an SMS sender name and number porting were all set up quickly with support’s help. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
No version history for scenarios. There is no built-in way to see or restore a previous version, so we archive every deploy by hand. For a small team, a one-click rollback would be a real safety net.
Third-party connectors lag behind the vendor’s own API. The Deepgram Voice Agent connector doesn’t expose everything Deepgram offers (for example, changing the AI endpoint mid-call), and we found that out by testing rather than from the docs. A clear list of what passes through would save a lot of time.
EU compliance for the built-in providers takes digging. Voximplant’s own EU residency is clear, but finding out residency, retention and training terms for each speech provider in the chain means separate questions to support, and some take a while to answer. One published table per provider would help EU customers a lot.
Large scenarios have to be split by hand. Once the call logic grows, there are no shared code modules, so we maintain it across two scenarios.
Few examples for less common setups. Greek, EU-only data and our own AI endpoint is a niche combination, and there was little documentation or community experience to lean on. A lot was learned through live test calls. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
