I primarily use OPT Property Tax within tax.com, and one of the things I like most is that it is web-based. Compared with the earlier setup, it feels faster, more reliable, and easier to work with. I also like that when I start a larger process, it can continue running even if my internet connection is interrupted, which is very helpful.
The Workflow Center is useful for processing and managing documents across our clients, and the import process is fairly straightforward and works well. Maintaining account information in Tax Center and asset details in Asset Center is also organized and easy to manage. Return preparation has improved a lot and feels more reliable now, especially with the forms being closer to what assessors expect and accept. Maintaining tables, payee information, and mailing addresses is also helpful for our day-to-day property tax work.
From an integration standpoint, most of my experience is with importing and exporting data between OPT and the files we use for our property tax processes. That works well for our needs, although I have limited experience with any direct integrations between OPT and other systems.
Support has also been a positive experience. Whenever I run into an issue and raise a support ticket, I generally receive a quick response and the team is helpful in working through the problem.
I am not directly involved in the pricing or licensing side, so I cannot comment much on pricing or ROI from a cost perspective. From an operational standpoint, though, having the account, asset, return, notice, tax bill, and related property tax information maintained within the same platform is valuable for our work.
AI capabilities are not currently a major part of the OPT Property Tax functionality that I use. This is one area where I would like to see more development in the future, particularly intelligent automation that could make some of the repetitive property tax processes easier.
Overall, the performance of the web-based platform has been good, and OPT provides a reliable place to manage most parts of the property tax process. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I primarily use OPT Property Tax within tax.com, and overall the product has improved a lot, but there are still a few areas where I think the user experience could be better.
One concern is system availability and performance during busy filing seasons. There are times when the servers become unavailable or access is limited, and during peak season this can create a real challenge because teams are working against filing deadlines.
I would also like to see some additional flexibility in return preparation. For example, it would be helpful if users could attach a specific document and choose whether it should appear at the beginning or end of the generated return package. This could be useful for documents such as an LOA, mailing address change letter, or other information that needs to be provided to the assessor along with the return.
Workflow Center could also be more interactive and provide reviewers with more information. For example, it would be helpful to see directly whether certain assessment-related flags are checked. Also, when reviewing documents, the user currently cannot easily put one document on hold and move to the next one without verifying the current document. Having an option to hold or skip a document temporarily would make the review process more flexible.
There are also some areas where forms and depreciation tables could continue to improve. I have seen certain forms missing for states such as South Carolina and Indiana, and it would be helpful if the depreciation tables were updated each year to align as closely as possible with the assessor-provided tables.
Another issue I have noticed is with exporting grid data to Excel. For example, under New Assessment in Subjects, estimated assessment mail dates or estimated appeal deadlines may be visible in the grid, but those values can sometimes come through blank when the data is exported to Excel. It would be helpful if all values visible in the application were consistently included in the export.
I have also seen smaller output issues in the past. For example, the check request text file previously did not include the Address 3 field. That issue was raised with support and was corrected, which was appreciated.
Finally, I would like to see more AI and intelligent automation added to OPT Property Tax over time. There are many repetitive property tax processes where additional automation could make the system even more useful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
