As an admin and instructor, I was able to see how far people were in the courses and how long they were taking which is very valuable information for creating learning paths and curriculum. **What do you dislike about TalentLMS?** TalentLMS isn't the prettiest system out there. It's very functional without all the bells and whistles. While I like the simplicity of it, some additional features to increase gamification could be beneficial. **Recommendations to others considering TalentLMS:** If you're looking for a learning management system that you can grow into and is easy to use, I would recommend checking out TalentLMS. The API is well documented for implementation and allows you to perform some basic actions in TalentLMS. Its Talent Library is great. **What do you dislike about TalentLMS?** It lacks adequate authoring tools. Most LMSs out there include tools to generate content like articulate rise or even some LMSs on WordPress. TalentLMS still uses WYSIWYG to generate content directly on the platform which looks and feels very outdated by today's standards. Also, the monthly subscription is expensive and the upgrade rates are very high. **Recommendations to others considering TalentLMS:** You will need to spend more on an external authoring tool to create quality content (e.g. articulate, adobe captivate, etc.) and then distribute it through TalentLMS. The biggest plus for me is that it is user-friendly. The program has a very short learning curve when you begin to interact with all the features to set up your courses. I develop my courses and publish them in the xAPI or the SCORM format. My courses upload to TalentLMS with on-click. All the parameters I set for the courses are followed without fail. Realtime reporting allows me to track learning progress and when the course is completed, my custom certificate is issued. I can customize my brand with my own domain name, logo, and colors. I also love the eCommerce feature, which allows me to sell my courses online. Customer service is AWESOME! Part of our decision making process was finding a solution that would allow us to automate some part of our process so we could focus more on innovating with our content, and we are able to do so with TalentLMS **What do you dislike about TalentLMS?** Customization is simple but it could be simpler. I am not a very tech person and I'm setting it up myself for my small company, but the idea is that we use to provide services to our customers. I've figured out most so far but there are things that are not that simple (like changing CSS values to display text the way I want it to look in the certificates we'll produce to our learners). I think there's a good opportunity for them to get better at this. **Recommendations to others considering TalentLMS:** As mentioned in the title, you don't need a lot of experience managing a LMS to get a lot out of TalentLMS, but it does require a lot of work from someone that can actually do it. I started playing with in my spare time and quickly realized I needed more time with it to actually get things setup the way I needed it to be setup. I believe that if your evaluation process focuses on some of the core competencies your team will need, you'll find TalentLMS a solid option. **What problems is TalentLMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** We're now able to standardize some of the trainings we usually deliver to our customers through a single platform where we can actually keep track of learner's progress and share that with stakeholders. This will add a whole new level of complexity to our business that we know will help us differentiate from others. It is very simple to set up groups, categories and branches. I have reached out to customer service on multiple occasions in order to fix some of these problems and either they can't fix them or they won't fix them. Maybe my problems are a little more complicated and take longer to get back with me, but sometimes it feels like they are ignoring me. One such problem involves publishing content created through authoring software, such as Articulate 360. When I post a SCORM file to TalentLMS, About 10 to 15% of our users do not get credit for the courses they take. The theory is that the users did not click the exit button when they left the SCORM file, thus not communicating with the LMS that the coursework had been completed. It would make more sense to save the users progress as they go, but maybe the authoring software and learning management systems aren't set up that way. Regardless, I have to track over 2000 employees with a system that's missing credit for hundreds of them. It adds a lot of administrative work on my end trying to track things down. To make matters worse, when I bring up issues to them about the system and its inconsistencies, they keep telling me that it's my fault or fault with our authoring software, often with little explanation. It took over a month for them to get back to me on issues--more than once. They are great when it comes to answering questions about their own services and features, but if you're having technical issues with their system, don't expect much help anytime soon. Also, I have found that a lot of emails from the TalentLMS system get blocked when going to gmail and other accounts. When I brought this up, they simply said we can't help what they do with their own spam settings....WONDERFUL! Another way in which their platform falls short. **Recommendations to others considering TalentLMS:** It works great if you're just adding quizzes, videos and articles with in the learning management system. However, if you are adding your own content from another author in software, there's a good chance it's not going to work well. I know it is tempting to go with this software and it is intuitive and the price in pretty good, but there will be problems. You will sacrifice a lot of time and headaches if you have a large number of people to manage with this system. I'm thinking we need to look elsewhere after using it for a year. Working with iframe discussions get's complicated to sererate user groups. you can do it by creating branches, but then you have to create a whole new environment and duplicate all your course content for each branch.
