Court reporter costs are out of control. They have a monopoly and can charge exorbitant fees and lawyers must just bend over and take it. Smaller firms can’t afford the high costs of depositions on cases so they get priced out and are forced to settle for less than full value. Steno’s DelayPay contingency type model allows smaller firms a fighting chance by not having to pay up front for depositions and also sharing the risk by only requiring payment IF we win. Now we can push cases farther and increase the case value by taking depositions instead of fearing being saddled with out of pocket costs. It’s been a game changer. My only dislike is the same with ALL court reporting companies. Every single one adds on multiple redundant fees but re-words them to disguise the double charging. It’s fees on top of fees. Fees to “package” the digital transcript? Come on. Appearance fees and then additional remote fees and now even more for in-person fees? Ridiculous. Unfortunately, Steno is no different there. A little bit better but they still have a lot of those fees. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
