Honestly, my favorite part about using Smore is how ridiculously easy it makes building clean, professional internal newsletters and team announcements for our broadcast media team at Horizon Broadcast Group. As a Digital Operations Coordinator, a huge part of my job is rolling out internal updates, aligning our production, marketing, and admin teams, and sharing important workflow changes across our entire 51–200 staff. Before Smore, I struggled a lot with clunky design tools that required tons of formatting work just to make simple company updates look presentable.
What stands out the most is its super intuitive drag-and-drop layout. I don’t need any design experience at all to put together polished internal bulletins. A great real example is the weekly production workflow update I send out every Monday. Our broadcast crew works on tight shooting schedules, has rotating shifts, and constantly needs clear updates on equipment availability, vendor coordination changes, and deadline adjustments. With Smore, I can quickly insert media asset previews, section off different department updates, and highlight critical schedule reminders for our production and creative teams. It looks clean, organized, and way more professional than plain email text.
I also love how flexible and media-friendly the platform is. Since we’re a broadcast media company, we constantly share short clips, graphic previews, and campaign assets internally. Smore lets me embed images and video snippets directly into announcements without breaking the layout or ruining loading speeds. This is perfect for sharing sneak peeks of upcoming broadcasts or updated brand assets for our marketing team to reference.
On top of that, the basic engagement tracking is incredibly helpful for my daily operations work. After I send out a company-wide announcement, I can quickly check who’s viewed the bulletin and who hasn’t. This saves me so much follow-up work, because I only need to remind staff who missed key updates instead of messaging everyone repeatedly.
Overall, Smore simplifies one of my most repetitive daily tasks — internal company communication. It cuts down hours of formatting and admin work every week, keeps our cross-department teams aligned, and fits perfectly with our fast-paced broadcast media workflows. There are several limitations with Smore that create extra headaches when we build internal newsletters for our broadcast team. The biggest issue is how limited the custom branding controls are. Our station has specific brand colors, custom fonts, and broadcast graphic styles we need to follow for all internal announcements. Even when I input our brand hex codes, some elements still shift shades randomly, and we can’t upload custom fonts. Last month I built an all-staff bulletin about our new production equipment rollout, and the header text reverted back to Smore’s default font after publishing. I had to rebuild the whole section from scratch to fix it.
I also run into trouble with embedded video performance, which is a big deal for our broadcast media workflows. We often add short preview clips of upcoming segments inside our team newsletters. When I embed video from our cloud storage links, sometimes the clip won’t load for staff on production studio networks. A few of our editors reported seeing blank placeholders instead of video previews, and there’s no simple troubleshooting tool inside Smore to pinpoint why it fails.
The analytics could use a lot more depth too. Right now it only tells you who opened the newsletter, but it won’t show which sections people clicked on. When I send out updates about vendor changes or schedule adjustments, I can’t tell if teams actually read the critical production timeline parts. I end up sending separate follow-up surveys just to confirm everyone caught the key details Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
