"Simplified Our Process AND Saved Us Money"

5/5

What do you like best about ShipStation?

ShipStation is much more user-friendly than UPS Worldship. It validates addresses in real time and we can easily see what addresses need attention. In UPS Worldship, I wouldn't know an address was bad until the label import failed. Then I'd have to go through the failed addresses at that exact time. With Shipstation, I can then decide to print all other shipping labels for an order EXCEPT for those with bad addresses. I can get the majority of an order shipped without having to research address information at that exact moment. It's easy to look up order numbers and details, and to see if specific recipient orders shipped already. Returning to an order of 100+ recipients to fix and print any labels for bad addresses is simple. Reprinting and voiding labels are both easier, too!

I created a branded tracking page that matches our own website. I set up automated emails through ShipStation that alert customers when their order is actually scanned by UPS/FedEx/USPS, NOT as soon as a label is created. The email provides tracking information, and clicking on the number takes you to the branded page and shows the most recent activity for that shipment. I also included links at the top of the page to specific pages on our website to drive additional customer traffic.

Searching for order information is much easier in ShipStation; I can search via customer name, recipient name, or order number.

This past busy season, I used ShipStation to track product inventory, and keep an eye on how much product we had available compared to the orders coming in. I can allocate products to orders based on when they are received or the shipping deadline.

We have saved THOUSANDS of dollars over the past two busy seasons compared to when we used UPS Worldship. As a non-profit organization that consistently lost money on shipping, this has been a HUGE benefit of using ShipStation.

I also was able to set up automations to save some time. ShipStation will autofill shipping dimensions and weights based on the information I provided. I also don't have to fuss with setting up 3rd party shipping; instead, through automation, ShipStation recognizes a customer name and then defaults to that customer's billing account. No more issues with accidentally charging our own account and then having to void the label and start over.

I'm very pleased with my decision to switch to Shipstation. Besides everything else listed above, I can easily print postage for other shipping carriers as well. This has been extremely helpful during the holiday season when we have a few orders that need to go to other countries via USPS. I set up customs information in ShipStation. When an order needs to go to another country, the shipping label prints for the recipient but the address is for a USPS location that processes shipments going through customs. Now I don't need to worry about going to the post office and waiting in line to have someone else create the label for me. Once I print the processing center shipping label, all I must do is drop off the package at the post office. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ShipStation?

We found out that we had to remove a plug-in from our website that allows customers to place one order for multiple recipients, as ShipStation only recognizes it as one order; it doesn't break down the order based on recipient name. We currently work around this by forcing customers to place orders separately per recipient. Another workaround would be to keep the plug-in for multiple recipients and disable the connection between ShipStation and our WooCommerce page. We then would have to import each order from our accounting software (Great Plains), creating one order per recipient in ShipStation.

We do not do as much shipping between January and September, and therefore do not need a higher-value subscription for most of the year. The downside to paying for a lower-end subscription is that customer service is more limited in availabilty. Most of the year, if I have issues, I need to email customer service rather than being able to get on the phone and speak with someone directly. This can mean a longer wait time to resolve an issue due to going back and forth electronically in several emails, when it could be a quick ten minute phone call to make sure everything is square.

A minor inconvenience is that we now have to pay for all of our shipping labels. When we used UPS Worldship, we received free labels based on the volume of business we had throughout the year. However, we are still saving money overall. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is ShipStation solving and how is that benefiting you?

Our biggest challenge before ShipStation was the cost of shipping products through the United States. We have actually been able to make a small profit on shipping charges, when we were previously losing thousands of dollars during our busy season. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
