What do you like best about ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management?

What I like most about ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management is how it brings project planning, portfolio tracking, and resource management together in one platform. From a consulting perspective, it makes it easier to manage multiple projects, track progress against milestones, and provide stakeholders with a clear view of overall performance.

The dashboards and reporting features are particularly useful, as they reduce the need for manual tracking and make it easier to identify delays, dependencies, and potential risks. I also like how it helps connect strategic priorities with actual project execution, which is important when working on large transformation programs involving multiple teams and stakeholders.

What do you dislike about ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management?

One area where ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management could improve is the overall user experience. While the platform offers a lot of functionality, the interface can feel a bit complex, especially for new users. Navigating between different modules and configuring dashboards or reports isn't always straightforward, and there is definitely a learning curve.

From a consulting perspective, setting up workflows and customizing reports can take more time than expected, particularly when managing multiple projects with different reporting requirements. Integration with other tools like Excel, Power BI, and Microsoft Project could also be more seamless, as teams often rely on these for day-to-day project management.

Performance can sometimes be an issue when working with large portfolios or detailed dashboards. Also, the licensing and implementation costs can be relatively high, making it harder to justify the investment for smaller teams.

I think a more intuitive interface, easier integrations, and better AI-driven insights for identifying project risks and resource constraints would make the platform even more useful. ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management helps address one of the biggest challenges in consulting projects: managing multiple workstreams, tracking deliverables, and keeping stakeholders aligned on progress. Without a centralized platform, teams often rely on multiple Excel trackers, PowerPoint reports, and emails, which can make it difficult to maintain a single view of project status.

The biggest benefit is having project timelines, milestones, resource allocation, and risks in one place. It makes it easier to identify potential delays, track dependencies, and provide management with timely updates. The reporting and dashboard capabilities also help reduce manual effort in preparing project status reports and leadership reviews.

From my perspective, it is particularly useful for large transformation programs involving multiple teams and stakeholders. It improves transparency, brings more structure to project governance, and allows teams to spend less time consolidating information and more time resolving issues and driving project outcomes.
