We did scan to BIM for many residential and commercial projects of UAE where we estimated the cost of materials already used in a on-hold project and also calculated the future cost to complete the project.

Scan to BIM helped us in taking the laser scans of the project and then compiling that data and bringing it to Revit to further create the 3D model which is used for estimation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The most helpful thing about Scan to BIM is it can be used to create a visualisation of an existing project in a 3D atmosphere with the help of laser scans and other software. The greatest drawback of Scan to BIM comes in MEP where it requires a lot of expertise to understand a particular element or system and its types while seeing the point cloud. A person who is new to the field can see a pipe in the point cloud but cannot identify the type and purpose of it unless he has each and every drawing on his side.
