What do you like best about SAP Business ByDesign?

As an Azure Architect, what I appreciate most about SAP Business ByDesign is its architectural cohesion. With its “Suite-in-a-Box” model built on the HANA in-memory database, it helps eliminate the data silos and integration friction that are common in fragmented ERP landscapes. The platform’s native alignment with Enterprise Identity standards also lets us sustain a high-governance environment while keeping administrative overhead to a minimum. What do you dislike about SAP Business ByDesign?

While SAP Business ByDesign offers excellent out-of-the-box governance, its limited extensibility—and SAP’s recent strategic shift toward S/4HANA—make it a difficult choice for long-term architectural planning. From an engineering perspective, the rigidity of the SaaS model and the roadmap’s “maintenance-only” feel are major concerns, especially when weighed against more agile, cloud-native ERP alternatives. What problems is SAP Business ByDesign solving and how is that benefiting you?

SAP Business ByDesign helps us solve the problem of “process discontinuity” across our organization. From my perspective as an architect, the biggest advantage is its native integration: having Finance, CRM, and Project Management on a single HANA-powered database removes the need for complex middleware and fragile custom APIs. It also offers an enterprise-grade governance framework that aligns with our identity standards, so we can scale operations without also scaling our administrative “identity debt.” Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
