"Streamlined CCPA Compliance, Needs State-Level Adjustments"

4/5

What do you like best about Rule?

I find Rule's CCPA/TCPA-compliant data unification with a retail-optimized single customer view to be a standout feature. It's the reason we chose Rule over every other CDP/marketing automation tool we tested for our US business. Rule doesn't just unify customer data; it does so with US regulatory compliance integrated at every step, and it structures the single customer view for retail-specific insights. This is crucial for us as US retailers since non-compliance can lead to significant fines. Additionally, the initial setup of Rule was surprisingly streamlined and friendly for our lean team. We managed to have the platform fully configured and operational, with core integrations live, in just three business days without dedicated IT support, thanks to our marketing/CX lead. What do you dislike about Rule?

I find it frustrating that Rule doesn't support state-level privacy rule customization. While it excels at federal CCPA/TCPA compliance, it lacks the flexibility to easily handle state-specific privacy laws like those in Virginia, Colorado, or California. This oversight means I have to manually manage and track these exceptions, which is cumbersome and risks non-compliance. It would be so much better if Rule integrated a state-level privacy rule library, letting users toggle exceptions on or off and automatically applying the right rules for campaigns in those states. What problems is Rule solving and how is that benefiting you?

I use Rule to eliminate customer data silos, creating a CCPA-compliant single customer view and automating TCPA/CCPA guardrails, which solves non-compliant marketing issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Rule Communication of Rule

Thank you for your very detailed review. We're really glad Rule has been a strong fit for your retail business, and it's great to hear the onboarding went smoothly for your team.

We do want to add a small but important clarification: Rule is built on GDPR, the EU's privacy regulation, which is widely considered the world's most comprehensive data protection standard. GDPR is stricter than CCPA and TCPA in most respects, so the compliance foundation you're benefiting from is actually even more robust. That said, we appreciate that US-specific regulatory frameworks like CCPA matter to your business, and we're happy to discuss how Rule's GDPR-based architecture maps to those requirements.

Feel free to reach out directly if you'd like to dig into the compliance specifics.
