What I appreciate most about Remote Utilities is its combination of functionality, licensing flexibility, and continuous development.
I've been using it since at least 2018, initially with the free version before moving to paid licensing as my support requirements grew. That accessibility makes a significant difference for independent technicians and smaller IT service providers. The licensing options have allowed me to expand my support operations without being forced into a recurring subscription.
Version 7.9.0.0 introduces two particularly welcome improvements. I've tested the new direct file and folder copy/paste functionality after updating client systems, and being able to transfer files in either direction without switching to a separate transfer interface makes everyday support noticeably easier. The ability to convert a temporary Agent session into an installed Host is another excellent addition, particularly when occasional support becomes an ongoing arrangement.
I also appreciate being able to create customized, signed Agent and Host installers without additional charges for that capability. Combined with unattended access, address-book management, and self-hosted server options, this gives me considerable flexibility in how I deploy and manage remote support across different client environments.
The detailed hardware and software inventory exports are another valuable feature. I use these to document client systems, identify components, and maintain service records. Remote terminal access and the various administration modes also reduce the need to visit a location for tasks that can be completed remotely.
The improved mobile Viewer has made the product more practical when I'm away from my computer. I also appreciate the ability to connect directly to systems on a local network, where applicable, rather than unnecessarily routing those sessions through an external server.
Connection performance can still be improved in some situations, but the software has been reliable enough to remain a regular part of my support workflow. The development and support team has also been responsive to questions and suggestions over the years, which adds considerable value to the overall experience. My main area for improvement would be connection performance. While Remote Utilities offers a comprehensive set of features and works well for my regular support requirements, remote screen responsiveness and overall connection speed could be better in certain situations, particularly when working across slower or higher-latency connections.
That said, several of my previous concerns have already been addressed through continued development. The improvements to the mobile Viewer, particularly access to my existing address books, made a significant difference. Version 7.9.0.0 has also addressed another major request with direct file and folder copy/paste.
At this point, there really isn't much that I strongly dislike about Remote Utilities. I'd welcome further performance optimizations and more convenient handling of operating-system credentials across multiple systems, but neither prevents me from using or recommending the software.
I've seen enough progress over the years to remain optimistic about its continued development. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
