What do you like best about Relativity?

What I like best about Relativity is the flexibility it provides to manage complex eDiscovery matters from intake through production. As a Project Manager, I regularly work with large data sets, multiple custodians, complex search criteria, productions, and different review workflows, and Relativity gives me the ability to tailor the workspace to the specific needs of each matter.

The searching and reporting capabilities are especially valuable. Saved searches, dtSearch, Search Term Reports, analytics, and customizable fields make it much easier to organize large document populations, identify relevant data, and provide counsel with meaningful information about their case. I also appreciate the ability to create workflows and views that make sense for both technical teams and attorneys reviewing the data.

From an attorney’s perspective, I also like that Relativity can take a very large and technically complicated collection and turn it into something counsel can actually navigate and use strategically. What do you dislike about Relativity?

The biggest challenge with Relativity is that its flexibility can also make it complex. There is a fairly steep learning curve, particularly for users who are new to the platform, and even experienced users sometimes have to navigate multiple settings, objects, and administrative areas to accomplish what should be a relatively straightforward task.

Performance can also be inconsistent at times, particularly in larger or more complex workspaces. When reviewers experience lag, slow document loading, delayed coding updates, or other browser-related performance issues, troubleshooting can be difficult because the cause is not always immediately apparent.

I would also like to see continued improvement in the overall user experience and consistency between different areas of the platform. Some workflows feel very intuitive, while others require more clicks or administrative knowledge than expected. Better visibility into performance issues and more streamlined troubleshooting tools for administrators and project managers would be especially valuable.

Overall, these issues do not outweigh the platform’s capabilities, but reducing some of the complexity and improving consistency and performance would make an already powerful platform much easier to manage and support. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Relativity solving and how is that benefiting you?

Relativity solves the core problem of turning large, complex, and often disorganized data collections into a manageable discovery workflow. On the matters I manage, we may be dealing with multiple custodians, device collections, third-party productions, email, social media data, and other sources that all need to be processed, searched, reviewed, tracked, and ultimately produced in a defensible way.

Relativity allows us to centralize that work and create repeatable workflows for processing, deduplication, searching, review, privilege analysis, redactions, productions, and reporting. Features such as Search Term Reports, saved searches, analytics, customizable fields, batching, and production tools help us narrow very large document populations and give counsel better visibility into what the data actually contains.

The biggest benefit for me as a Project Manager is efficiency and control. I can quickly answer questions about document populations, custodians, review status, search results, and productions without having to manage that information across disconnected systems. That makes it easier to identify issues early, keep discovery moving, and provide counsel with reliable information for decision-making.

As an attorney, I also appreciate that Relativity helps bridge the gap between the technical side of eDiscovery and the substantive legal work.
