## Redmine Reviews
  ### 1. Easy for Basics, But Confusing Sprint Tracking/Adequate Reporting Make It a Poor Substitute For Jira

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nate S. | Senior Director, Infrastructure and Security, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Redmine?**

It is a useful tool if you have very limited reporting and task management requirements. Its UI is fairly easy to learn and you can get the basics done very quickly

**What do you dislike about Redmine?**

Once you get past simple reporting and tracking, its usefulness falls off quickly. Its Agile sprint tracking interface is confusing and not nearly as good as its competitors. The basic reporting it offers is barely adequate, and unless you have the time to code your own enhancements, not very useful for sizable tasks. We ended up switching to Jira even with the cost difference, as it more than filled in the gaps that Redmine left

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solved simple reporting and tracking requirements, both for T&M contracts as well as Agile sprints.

  ### 2. Self-Hosted Simplicity with Powerful Project Management

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Oleksandr G. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Redmine?**

I like Redmine for its simplicity and the fact that it is self-hosted. The free license is a big plus for me as it gives me control over my data, and I can freely backup and use it. Switching to Redmine was easy for us as it's more modern and features complete compared to Bugzilla.

**What do you dislike about Redmine?**

I'm not happy with the development and feel like there's some sort of features stagnation with Redmine. The interface looks outdated to me, and that's a bummer. Also, dealing with outdated plugins that can't be used with modern Redmine versions is a headache.

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Redmine helps with time tracking, projects documentation, ticketing, task management, and reporting.

  ### 3. Comprehensive Tool with Security and Hierarchy Challenges

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Samriddhi G. | Technical Project Manager , Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Redmine?**

I like that Redmine is very easy and simple to use, which makes it perfect for our team to manage tasks efficiently. What's great is the level of security it provides, as it can't be accessed without VPN, which is crucial since we work in healthcare and need to keep our client's personally identifiable health information safe. Redmine's open-source nature means it's accessible across different operating systems, making it seamless for our entire organization to use. I'm thankful for this, as it helps maintain our workflow without hassle.

**What do you dislike about Redmine?**

I mean, so whenever you are added to an organization in Redmine, it starts to send you all of these email notifications. So, of course, there is a workaround and you can turn them off for the ones which you are not a part of. And, like, that's still okay, but the UI is very old, and I feel like it can be, you know, somewhat more like a task tracking so that it caters more for the issue tracking issues. I feel like if you open the Redmine and you open the organization, you are able to see everyone's every detail which you don't wanna see. So maybe this could have been a feature where we have, like, teams, and then we tag those teams into those issues so that it only clogs the teams or, like, the people who are in the teams who are associated with that particular issue or sub-issue so it doesn't really clog everyone's screen because that actually makes the Gantt view and the HR view screens of Redmine really, really, you know, unstructured and full of data, which doesn't really make sense.

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Redmine to track scoping, development, QA issues, and invoicing. It maintains client work seamlessly with linked issues and is easy to use across operating systems because it's open source. It's secure with VPN access, crucial for safeguarding client data in healthcare.

  ### 4. Effective for Planning, But Complex Customization

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Redmine?**

I like the ability to view the Gantt charts of activities and to track work time with Redmine. I also appreciate that the initial setup is not very complex and has been refined over time to suit our needs. We have used Redmine for a long time because it is effective. I positively value the fact that it is free, which increases my enthusiasm in recommending it.

**What do you dislike about Redmine?**

Probably the graphical interface and the possibility of customization are not immediate. It is not immediate to modify the interfaces and forms to adapt them to the team's needs, but it is still feasible.

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Redmine for team task planning and workload management, including deadlines. I like to view the Gantt charts of activities and track work time.

With Redmine, we have a good user experience for our project managers. It provides various reports and helps us make informed decisions about our release planning.

  ### 10. Highly customizable open-source project management software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marco D. | Product Lead Technology, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 05, 2023

**What do you like best about Redmine?**

Since Redmine is an open-source project it is highly customizable. Not only can you change the looks and processes but Redmine can be extended by writing your own integrations via its plugin system. In theory this allows you to build a project management software 100% customized to your companies needs.

**What do you dislike about Redmine?**

Out-of-the-box Redmine's user interface can seem very bland and the learning curve to configure the software can be quite steep, so some learning and adaptation is required before you can start using the software.

**What problems is Redmine solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The four main areas my team uses Redmine for are:

1. Task management to assign responsibilities and monitor progress
2. Bug tracking to allow our users to log and describe issues in detail, so the development team can solve them accordingly
3. Documentation to provide a centralized location to store our software and project documentation
4. Resource management to help manage our soft- and hardware resources and track their availablity
