Beware of the Bumbling Giant! **Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** April 09, 2026 **What do you like best about PowerSchool SIS?** It is the most commonly-used SIS in Virginia, so it works with more other programs than most **What do you dislike about PowerSchool SIS?** Their operations and business functionality are terrible. They are too big and cannot function properly. They overlooked the project merging two school districts' SIS instances into a single SIS, getting us off to a disastrous start for the school year, dropped the project a month in, and I ended up doing over 50% of the work for the project, moving data over, correcting mistakes made, and at the end of it, they're still asking for over $60k for their "services." The business side was not able to handle the invoice and account changes right, and we are still working with them to resolve it all, on top of all of the countless hours being diverted from supporting instruction to having to manage the mess they gave us. PowerSchool is the worst EdTech company to work with in a field where the bar is already set very low. Large companies ruin EdTech - go with smaller companies' products, they manage it better. **What problems is PowerSchool SIS solving and how is that benefiting you?** Managing and organizing student data and rostering with other systems. ### 2. It makes it easy to sort and organize student data efficiently. **What do you dislike about PowerSchool SIS?** There can be a steep learning curve when you’re adapting to the software for the first time. For example, generating all of the student data can take some getting used to. **What problems is PowerSchool SIS solving and how is that benefiting you?** Power School makes it easier to have a “one-stop shop” for student behavioral data and grading. It simplifies reporting and makes student behavior easy to track, while also offering helpful tools for grading. Student demographic information is also easy to find when I need it. ### 3. I can access it outside of school, even on my phone. It's a user friendly interface. **What do you dislike about PowerSchool SIS?** There are some reports and / or queries that are not necessarily intuitive. I end up clicking on every menu option to find what I'm looking for. **What problems is PowerSchool SIS solving and how is that benefiting you?** I can easily access student records and progress toward graduation, including total credits earned. I can easily print unofficial transcripts. ### 4. Over time, we’ve discovered just how seamlessly it connects with other platforms we use daily—such as Finalsite, Edlio, and Clever—streamlining many aspects of our school’s operations. In the last two years, we’ve fully embraced its inventory system, which has become an essential part of managing our technology resources. The built-in sample reports have also been invaluable, serving as a model for how we communicate with parents this year. One standout for us has been the integration with MBA Add-Ons, which truly opened our eyes to features and efficiencies within PowerSchool that we hadn’t realized were possible. This combination has helped us unlock an entirely new level of functionality. Lastly, the customer service deserves recognition—they are responsive, persistent, and committed to resolving any issues until we’re completely satisfied. Overall, PowerSchool SIS has proven to be a robust and evolving solution that continues to grow with us as we explore its full potential. **What do you dislike about PowerSchool SIS?** My biggest challenge with PowerSchool is its complexity. While the system is powerful, it can be difficult to figure out how to complete certain tasks or pinpoint the source of an issue. Navigating its many layers often takes time and patience, especially for new or infrequent users. **What problems is PowerSchool SIS solving and how is that benefiting you?** Before we started using PowerSchool more fully, we maintained all Tech Inventory and Student Attendance in a Google Spreadsheet. PowerSchool at the very least is helping to streamline our processes and provide a professional solution that is backed by an industry leader. ### 5. Students can get all of their grades in one location. Grades from the Canvas LMS are synched and easily transferred into PowerSchool which saves me a step. **What do you dislike about PowerSchool SIS?** I don't have any dislikes. It is very user friendly. **What problems is PowerSchool SIS solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am able to enter student grades or have them synched from Canvas and add comments in one location. ### 6. We use Single-Sign on to streamline ease of access and the addtional PowerSchool apps are housed in the apps switcher for seamless login to other platforms (depending on access rights).
