The hard separation between software partitions also gives us huge peace of mind. Any crashes in background logging or monitoring services never leak into our core machine control code, so our industrial hardware maintains steady, predictable operation under all load conditions. New low-power industrial chip support releases at a slow pace, forcing us to manually port most peripheral drivers ourselves. Debugging cross-partition communication latency is cumbersome too; the native tools have no intuitive visual charts to pinpoint bottlenecks. Worse still, there’s no graphical interface to tweak CPU and memory allocations for partitions—all configuration must be written manually in raw text files, which is prone to human error.
