The biggest drawback for me is the cost of international transactions. PayPal’s cross-border fees can be quite high, and it often adds a currency conversion markup of around 3% to 4% above the mid-market exchange rate. On top of that, its strict automated fraud-prevention policies can sometimes trigger unexpected account freezes or transaction holds. When that happens, it’s frustrating to sort out—especially if customer support is slow to respond. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
My main concern with PayPal is its fee structure, which feels uncompetitive compared with alternatives like Stripe. Domestic processing rates are noticeably higher, and the steep currency conversion markups on cross-border transactions can significantly eat into overall profit margins.
