  ### 1. Paychex Flex Makes Weekly Payroll Fast and Easy

**What do you like best about Paychex?**

I really love how easy Paychex Flex makes it to run our weekly payroll. It’s straightforward to use and saves us time each week.  The time card function for each employee is easy to use and also to log in to their jobs for job costing.  This is done by an app on their phone for ease of using.  The onboarding process was thorough and handled by many Paychex employees that were very detailed in their department expertise to make the transition a positive and painless experience.

**What do you dislike about Paychex?**

There really aren’t any downsides to using Paychex. If I had to point to something, it would be getting used to which department to contact when I have questions, and sometimes dealing with different time zones.  But that is pretty minor when you are able to reach the correct "expert" in the department that you need help with.

**What problems is Paychex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our new employee handbook has been a huge asset, helping ensure we stay in compliance. The resources available through their insurance department have been another big help. Their resources for credit card processing and ACH processing have also saved us time and money.  The avenues that we have on our account have been a huge plus in saving time and money.

  ### 2. Paychex Saves Hours Monthly with Easy GL Entries, Billing, and Reporting

**What do you like best about Paychex?**

We’re six months into our new partnership with Paychex, and it has already saved us hours of work each month. The GL entry process is much easier, billing is straightforward, and the reporting tools give us the information we need without extra effort.

**What do you dislike about Paychex?**

The website is designed fairly well overall. That said, some items aren’t as intuitive or as easy to access as I had hoped, so there’s definitely room for improvement. For example, the places to retrieve various reports are spread across three or four different areas, which makes them harder to find and navigate to. The Time and Attendance section could also use some refinement, as it feels clunky at best.

**What problems is Paychex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We’re a fully remote business, with employees working across about 15 different states. We need a partner that can handle state tax reporting, guide us on state employment laws, and provide a solid healthcare benefits package at an affordable price.

  ### 3. All-in-One Payroll Convenience, But Integrations and Global Support Need Work

**What do you like best about Paychex?**

Paychex enables you to bundle a lot of things together with you payroll - TPAs for state withholdings and unemployment, COBRA, expense management, worker's compensation and more. It's handy having everything through one vendor with payroll data access.

**What do you dislike about Paychex?**

Paychex is not a global friendly system. If you have global employees and or contractors and want to store them in one system. This is not the right platform for that.

Sometimes the integrations of various vendor software into Paychex causes usability issues where data doesn't flow as seamlessly or easily as expected. There end up being a lot of one off situations that have to figure out how to handle.

**What problems is Paychex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used to employ a full-time payroll person and had challenges with that person being reliable. We use the managed services through Paychex where we have a payroll person there, which helps us be sure to process payroll on time.

  ### 4. Simple Onboarding and Best-in-Class Taxpay Setup

**What do you like best about Paychex?**

Onboarding a new employee or contractor is simple. Paychex walks through each step of information, taxes, pay, direct deposit, etc. Taxpay is the best, as long as it is setup with each state tax and Paychex will follow-up on your company's behalf.

**What do you dislike about Paychex?**

Quarterly charges for non-active Taxpay state tax accounts, $30 per account #, but if you cancel Taxpay note it DOES NOT suspend your tax accounts with the state. Weekly payroll charges are a little steep, however our payroll is processed and our service reps help with ANY/ALL questions issues it seems we have come across.

**What problems is Paychex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tax filings. We previously have had some issues with certain state taxes receiving late filing letters, monies owed, etc, but since most state are setup on Taxpay, we are able to submit these letters to the Paychex tax team for correction on behalf of our company.

  ### 5. Intuitive Platform with Excellent Support

**What do you like best about Paychex?**

I love that we have dedicated support across all different areas to make sure our needs are met and we have answers to any questions. I also love the payroll platform software, as it is easy to use and intuitive. The payroll automatic saves progress when you make changes so you don't lose any updates you have made, which has been very helpful. You can easily import payroll data and proceed to review. The payroll process is simplified, making it streamlined to upload payroll data, review, customize the layout, and edit changes easily.

Paychex keeps us up-to-date with the latest compliance and employment laws by sending out newsletter emails, assigning a dedicated Paychex HR specialist, and holding webinars. A dedicated payroll specialist addresses our payroll concerns, and a customer support advocate directs our questions and guides us through any confusion. Under the PEO platform, we utilize Paychex's group healthcare plan to provide cost-effective health benefits to our employees. The initial setup was very smooth, and we had no problems transitioning from Quickbooks.

**What do you dislike about Paychex?**

The onboarding process for Paychex could be improved, as we are charged for every employee we add to the system. This prevents us from directly onboarding a potential candidate as soon as they start, and instead we are having to wait until the employee actually starts and is about to be paid in order to add them and onboard them in the Paychex system. There used to be a separate onboarding system in Paychex but it was removed recently, potentially as an additional cost feature.

**What problems is Paychex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Paychex streamlines our payroll process, offers cost-effective healthcare plans, keeps us updated on compliance laws with newsletters and webinars, and provides dedicated support for addressing payroll and HR concerns. Payroll is much easier to handle with multiple employees vs Quickbooks, as the software is more automated and performs at a larger scale.

  ### 6. Paychex Makes Setup Easy

**What do you like best about Paychex?**

Most of the back end configurations are completed by Paychex, so it allows administrators an easier experience in managing the system. Other systems you have to spend a lot of time learning how to configure everything and then testing to see if you did it right, but Paychex takes that off your plate and helps ensure it is done correctly the first time. We are provided with a dedicated support team that makes resolving any issues easier and faster. We love knowing who our main contact is and getting to build that relationship and trust with them. The system does have a lot of integrations available to help support your company's HR needs, including Paychex Learning and Flex Engage, and allows employees the ability to easily access those modules without having to remember another login. The pre-created quick reports that Paychex provides saves a lot of time and effort instead of having to try to create something new.

**What do you dislike about Paychex?**

While not having to manage your own configurations in Paychex is nice, it can come with a lack of visibility into how your system, especially pay codes, are set up and functioning. Because of this, you do really need to make sure you are auditing your data and payroll to ensure everything is processing as expected. The payroll process is easy to manage, but I do wish there were more intuitive audit tools/reports in place to catch errors during the payroll processing.  It has been trial and error in finding the right mix of internal processes to check payroll, while I know other HR systems have more pre-defined checks built into their platforms.

**What problems is Paychex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We previously used paper onboarding forms. Paychex provided a system solution to be able to do all of our onboarding forms electronically, including I9s. The system even manages the I9 retention policies for those forms so we don't have to manually monitor purge dates any longer. This saves our team time on not having to do as many manual administrative tasks.

  ### 7. Effortless Payroll Management, Miss the Personal Touch

**What do you like best about Paychex?**

I really appreciate that Paychex takes care of doing our payroll and payroll taxes, making that paperwork way easier for us. One of my favorite things was having my own personal paycheck specialist for many years. We've used them for probably twenty plus years, and I valued having that personal touch. The initial setup was very easy.

**What do you dislike about Paychex?**

I think one of the worst things is we don't have a true dedicated payroll specialist that gets to know you and your work and your system and the way you do things. It's hard to talk to a new person each time or to email something and not get an answer for days. I think there's improvement in there.

**What problems is Paychex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Paychex takes care of doing our payroll, payroll taxes, and manages our 401k, making the paperwork way easier and less burdensome for us to do.

  ### 8. Effortless Payroll with Stellar Support

**What do you like best about Paychex?**

We have a great account manager who gets back to us right away and always has the needed answers. Their portal is very user friendly and they make doing payroll a breeze. I simply enter the hours each staff worked that pay period and any additional PTO/vacation hours, and Paychex does the rest.

**What do you dislike about Paychex?**

It would be nice to have a direct phone number to dial our account manager rather than calling the main line and having to be transferred.

**What problems is Paychex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Paychex has really lightened our workload by calculating, collecting, and paying our quarterly taxes. I simply enter the hours worked, and it takes care of everything else—from deductions to direct deposits—so the process feels much more streamlined.

  ### 9. Great Features and Affordable Benefit Offerings for Small Employers

**What do you like best about Paychex?**

The Time and Attendance feature supports time-off calendar integration and works well with both weekly and biweekly payroll cycles.

**What do you dislike about Paychex?**

The occasional turnaround time it takes to hear back from the benefits department when updating payroll deductions for terminated employees.

**What problems is Paychex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has streamlined our processes and record-keeping for payroll, employee HRIS, 401(K), and reporting for our small business of 15 employees. It’s also helping us stay within our annual budget for medical and ancillary benefits by offering lower costs, as if we were part of a larger employer group. The group coverage and benefits available help us remain competitive in the small-employer market while offering rich medical plans with lower deductibles at more affordable costs.

  ### 10. Intuitive Payroll Entry, But Reporting & Notifications Need Improvement

**What do you like best about Paychex?**

The payroll entry is easy to follow, and the employee information profile is easy to read and is intuitive which is great for when we have updates or new hires to enter.

**What do you dislike about Paychex?**

The Analytics & Reports are not intuitive at all; it is very difficult to find reports that I need or are helpful. There's not a lot of diversity or ability to refine each report; there is a lot of HR statistical information missing from the employee profiles so when we need to run annual reports for these, we have to manually enter the missing information each time for each employee. 

Reaching the dedicated Payroll rep has also been really difficult. While it is nice to have a dedicated Payroll rep, it often happens that when we call or email, there is no response because they are out of the office, resulting in poor response time. Calling the phone line for the next available rep seems to work most of the time. However, there are quite a lot of reps who do not seem to know or understand Payroll in detail, making it difficult to get our  questions answered. 

Flex updates: All of the recent system updates have been handled poorly in my opinion. Because there are no email notices sent regarding what has been changed or updated, I never know what has changed until I need something and time is of the essence. For example: there were recent updates to how we send our notices received from state and federal tax. No email correspondence was sent regarding this change. 

Flex Perks: There were also Paychex Flex Perks that were added without our knowledge or consent. These were made available to our employees and none of our executives or myself, received any email notices that these were a) being added or b) being automatically made available to our employees and c) that we would have to manually go into our Flex account to turn the Perks off. That is unacceptable and I don't understand why something would be made available to our employees that we did not have a chance to review and approve of before allowing to be made available to our employees.

The AI Help option is not helpful either. Every time I have used this feature to find answers on my own, the information provided is vague and almost every time it doesn't answer or address my question.

**What problems is Paychex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have yet to experience this.
