## Onshape Reviews
 ### 1. Intuitive, Browser-Based CAD with Regular Updates and Great Training Resources

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kent F. | Product Design & Innovation Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Onshape?**

Onshape is intuitive and easy to use. It also gets regular updates, so new features roll out and improvements happen all the time. I really like that it’s browser-based, because it means I don’t need an overly powerful computer to run it smoothly. If anything happens, my progress is automatically saved, which gives me real peace of mind. The training resources and help center are genuinely useful too, and it’s convenient to come back to them anytime to refresh my memory on tools or features whenever I get a little stuck, and if the resources there don't answer your question, the Onshape community forum will help out with tips and tricks

**What do you dislike about Onshape?**

Nothing specific comes to mind. I haven’t used every CAD program out there, but I do use a couple of other tools for smaller, more specialized tasks (e.g., working with Revit files). Overall, Onshape is a solid all-rounder.

**What problems is Onshape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Onshape provides our company with a CAD tool that is easy to scale and simple to deploy to team members spread across multiple locations and countries. It also makes collaboration straightforward, so it’s easy for us to work on projects together within Onshape.

 ### 2. FeatureScript Makes Onshape a Powerful, Flexible CAD Platform

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bradlei T. | Continuous Improvement Manager/Digital Transformation Lead, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Onshape?**

Onshape's biggest differentiator is the featurescript programming capabilities. Its a much more powerful method of building macro layers into your CAD than using something like VBA. Since it is native, we are getting full capabilities that give us the flexibility to tie Onshape into our existing systems with the tweaking required to make it fast and flexible.

The teams are highly supportive and attentive to our feedback. When we request change they are exited to support us and our unique use case.

Pricing is fair but a little more than base solidworks.

**What do you dislike about Onshape?**

We've noticed a few hiccups since it is cloud based, we can definitely tell when it is update day as the service slows down during that time.

Like most other companies, Onshape is spending a lot of resources on AI but I worry it is pulling them away from making the product better for general usage. AI is expensive.

**What problems is Onshape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We produce a lot of models. Onshape reduced that time to model, at a friendly and engaging way. Its faster in every way.

 ### 3. Browser-Based Design: Seamless Collaboration and Useful Version History

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Muzammil M. | Founder – Muzammil Graphic | Interior and Graphic Designer | Transforming Spaces and Brands Visually , Graphic Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Onshape?**

I use Onshape for architectural concept modeling and design development. Being cloud-based is a big advantage because I can access my CAD files from different systems without worrying about installation or file transfers. Creating 3D models, updating design revisions, and sharing concepts with others is straightforward, which makes the workflow much smoother.

**What do you dislike about Onshape?**

The software depends on a stable internet connection, and very detailed models can feel a little slower to work with. I also wish it included a few more visualization and rendering tools for architectural presentations.

**What problems is Onshape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps me develop and revise architectural CAD models more efficiently while keeping project files organized in one place. Sharing designs for feedback is quick, and version history reduces confusion when multiple revisions are involved, saving time during the design process.

 ### 4. Intuitive CAD Solution with Excellent Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kevin M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Onshape?**

I really appreciate Onshape's ease of use, especially since I don't come from a CAD background. It facilitates the design of products and makes it possible for customers to review and make amendments before manufacturing. Communication between staff on the workshop floor and with customers is much easier. The learning center is very good, and the forums are extremely helpful with loads of members willing to help and offer assistance. Setting it up was very easy; I just took part in a training course and started using it for work. I'm also pleased that Onshape integrates well with our CNC plasma cutter as I can create parts and export them for manufacturing, and it allows me to export parts in STEP format to send them to other companies for manufacturing.

**What do you dislike about Onshape?**

I would like to be able to pay for a rolling monthly subscription.

**What problems is Onshape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Onshape helps us design products and allows customers to review and make amendments before manufacturing. It improves communication between staff and customers. The ease of use is beneficial even for those without a CAD background.

 ### 5. Revolutionized Our Engineering Workflow with Customization

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Derek V. | Process Equipment Technician, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Onshape?**

I appreciate Onshape's full-service PDM capabilities, which allow me to focus on being a subject matter expert in manufacturing processes without needing to be a backend server administrator. The sheet metal engine is reliable and produces manufacturable geometry, so I spend less time auditing parts. I love that the features are open-source, enabling me to create my own tools to solve modeling problems, which makes entire classes of products possible without waiting for software updates. Onshape's ability to replace entire workflows with intelligent, one-click scripts has saved us months, if not years, of engineering labor. The initial setup was extremely easy for projects started natively in the software. I highly recommend it, as it truly supports our business model of creating unique, specialized products efficiently.

**What do you dislike about Onshape?**

Feature discovery is mostly done by forum search, and it isn't easy to sort the newest, most maintained versions of features from copies other people may have modified or not. CAM studio is also in need of some more work for router-based workflows and automation that works in our high mix low volume environment.

**What problems is Onshape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Onshape's full-service PDM means I focus on engineering, not server admin. Its sheet metal engine ensures reliable geometry, letting me focus on parts' purpose. Open-source features enable custom tool creation, replacing workflows with smart scripts, saving months of labor.

 ### 6. Easy itrerative CAD software with Versioning, Some UI Quirks

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ben K. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Onshape?**

I value Onshape for its file management, allowing me to create and iterate quickly through versions without the hassle of saving work or losing track of progress. It also helps with live progress updates. The versions, versioning, and branching features stand out to me the most, as they support my rapid design iteration. Not having to save files and dealing with software that doesn't crash are significant advantages. The flexibility and collaboration capabilities are also key reasons why I switched to Onshape. The initial setup was very easy for the most part, even though there was a bit of a learning curve. Overall, it has been a good experience.

**What do you dislike about Onshape?**

Mating and context editing can be frustrating because parts move around unexpectedly, and I have to constantly update the context in the assembly. The mental model around context editing could benefit from tips and tricks pop ups or other UI ques to help prevent unwanted parts and therefore reference movements. Edge selection is also challenging sometimes as it prioritizes face selection rather than edge selection, making me zoom in and orient parts several times to select the edge. I'm not sure if this is a graphics issue or an Onshape problem. Selecting other sketches while working in a new sketch is cumbersome; I have to exit the command (line circle etc.) to then go back and force the coincident reference a master sketch point, which feels like an extra unnecessary step.

**What problems is Onshape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Onshape solves file management issues, allowing me to create and iterate quickly with version history without losing progress. Its versioning and branching help me rapidly iterate on designs.

 ### 7. Pretty, Intuitive UI with a Flawless API and Outstanding Onboarding

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Facilities Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Onshape?**

The UI is very pretty and intuitive. I've tried integrating it through their amazing API and if worked flawlessly for us, though I'd prefer to have better rate limits.

Performance wise, most of the time we're satisfied with how long stuff takes to load, simulations take to run, etc. Pricing seems adequate and close to the market average. We'd probably be spending the same amount on other competitors.

Support has been great so far and I gotta say the onboarding was outstanding, Kelly has been super helpful.

We haven't have much use for the AI features yet. I tried the AI advisor but it doesn't really get what I'm trying to ask it.

**What do you dislike about Onshape?**

I’d say its main strength is that it’s cloud-native, but that also means if you don’t have a connection, you’re stuck.

**What problems is Onshape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One of our main problems was not having an active PDM solution. Having a native one helps us better organize our data across the whole product development.

 ### 8. Versioning That Makes Revisiting Past Designs Easy

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Yohanes U. | Mechanical Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Onshape?**

It has versioning features which help a lot to dig the previous design version when we have some issues with the deployed instrument with the old version.

**What do you dislike about Onshape?**

The merging feature seems like merging feature on OnShape works for part studio feature tree, it is not that easy merging the part on a part studio.

**What problems is Onshape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With traditional CAD methods, it is pretty time-consuming to share the files; you have to upload the files to the cloud, and the user has to download them, and then it also takes time to manage file history. Right now, the cloud system from Onshape and the history tracking help me a lot.

 ### 9. Onshape’s Project Management and Version Control Are Massive Time Savers

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ben C. | Product Technical Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Onshape?**

The project management aspects of Onshape make a world of difference. Being able to keep multiple Part Studios and assemblies version controlled within the same document, while also having BOMs and configurations, is a massive time saver.

**What do you dislike about Onshape?**

Support responds quickly, but I feel the Onshape “experts” don’t always seem well versed in some of the more niche features or the newer updates.

**What problems is Onshape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Project management using Onshape has completely changed the origination and work flow for our company for the better. Much easier to track designs and find past versions.

 ### 10. Onshape's cloud architecture is unmatched

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Patrick C. | Dessinateur concepteur, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Onshape?**

The cloud base architecture opens up a lot of opportunities that Onshape utilize to bring a lot more functionalities than traditionnal cad. Such has collaboration, revision, having access to all your history. Version management, configurations, in-context modeling, etc. Mate connectors are though to understand at first but when you discover their full strentgh, it's really useful.

**What do you dislike about Onshape?**

Being confined to the internet. If I don't have a connection, I can't use it.

**What problems is Onshape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Revision management. The PLM side is well integrated and very usefull to track changes on multiple projects.
