"Unified Scheduling, Inventory, and CRM That Keeps Pet-Care Operations in Sync"

What do you like best about Odoo ERP?

As Pet‑Care Business & Client‑Relationship Operations Manager at Paws & Path Wellness Collective, the feature I value most about Odoo ERP is how its interconnected app stack ties together client profiles, pet records, service scheduling, inventory tracking and invoicing inside one unified workspace, eliminating the siloed spreadsheets and disjointed standalone tools we relied on before. Our multi-location pet wellness business runs grooming sessions, overnight boarding, wellness consultations and retail supplement sales, and every pet’s care needs are unique: some require medication administration, anxiety accommodations or breed-specific grooming instructions. Before Odoo, our team kept pet allergy notes in a separate client spreadsheet, booking times in a scheduling app, and shampoo and treat inventory tracked on a shared Google sheet. Caregivers often flipped between three or four systems mid-shift, and critical details like food restrictions would get overlooked. With Odoo, each client profile links directly to individual pet cards, where we log grooming history, medication schedules, vet contact information and special care flags that pop up automatically when a booking is pulled up. Last month, a regular boarding guest with a chicken allergy arrived, and our groomer spotted the alert the second they opened the reservation, avoiding a potential safety incident.

I rely heavily on Odoo’s drag-and-drop calendar scheduler and automated reorder rule builder, which saves me hours each week balancing staff rosters, adjusting service capacity and restocking our pet care supplies. I can lock time slots by service type, assign groomers and boarding attendants to specific locations, and set capacity caps so we never overbook our boarding suites. The inventory module’s reorder triggers monitor our high-turn items like hypoallergenic shampoo, waste bags and prescription supplements; when stock hits the threshold I set, it auto-generates draft purchase orders to our supply vendors. This removes the weekly manual stock count I previously ran after closing hours, and it has cut down on embarrassing sell-outs of our most popular wellness products during busy holiday boarding weeks. The invoicing module also pulls line items straight from completed services, so after a grooming or boarding stay wraps up, the invoice populates with add-ons like nail trims or enrichment toys without manual data entry.

One unexpected benefit I’ve discovered is how Odoo’s built-in CRM follow-up sequences help us nurture repeat pet owner relationships without extra marketing software. We set up gentle automated outreach tied to service milestones: a reminder when a dog is due for their next grooming session, a check-in message three days after a long boarding stay, and a birthday note for each pet. These touchpoints have helped us smooth out seasonal booking slumps, and many clients mention they appreciate the thoughtful, personalized alerts. We also use the form builder embedded in Odoo to collect digital intake forms for new pets, which feed directly into the pet record instead of landing in an email inbox to be copied over later.

Odoo is not perfectly tailored for pet wellness out of the box. Some custom pet-care fields required basic configuration, and the mobile view can feel clunky for caregivers working quickly on the floor. Since we have no dedicated in-house IT, deeper customizations are out of reach. Even so, for our lean 11–50 person team spread across two locations, Odoo’s all-in-one structure eliminates data gaps across bookings, pet health notes, inventory and billing. It keeps our care teams focused on pets rather than chasing scattered records, and helps us stay on track against our fast-moving daily service deadlines. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Odoo ERP?

As Pet‑Care Business & Client‑Relationship Operations Manager at Paws & Path Wellness Collective, Odoo ERP’s unified scheduling and inventory modules save me hours each week coordinating grooming, boarding and supply restocks, but its steep configuration overhead, underdeveloped pet-care-specific field support, and inconsistent mobile performance create constant friction for our frontline care staff. Our biggest pain point is the rigid custom field setup, which forces us to build clunky workarounds for animal-specific data that native forms do not accommodate well. We need to track nuanced pet details such as medication administration windows, anxiety triggers, bite risk flags, vet follow-up timelines and breed-specific grooming notes. Odoo’s standard contact and product schemas were built for general commerce, so every new custom field requires careful setup inside the studio backend. When we rolled out a new field for separation-anxiety protocols earlier this year, it took multiple trial-and-error adjustments to make that note visible on the booking calendar pop-up. Without dedicated in-house IT, these configuration tasks fall entirely to me, and a single misconfigured permission setting can block groomers from seeing life-saving care alerts mid-appointment.

I also struggle with Odoo’s mobile interface, which is unreliable for our caregivers working on the floor at both locations. Our groomers and boarding attendants pull up pet records, log service updates and check special instructions while moving between kennels, bathing stations and client check-ins. The mobile view often loads slowly, collapses custom note sections, and does not keep the calendar scheduler optimized for quick tap actions. During our busy spring break boarding rush, one of our attendants could not pull up a dog’s twice-daily medication log on their tablet; they had to walk back to the front desk desktop to confirm dosage times, creating unnecessary delays and raising the risk of missed doses. The offline mode is extremely limited too, so if Wi-Fi flickers in our back grooming room, staff lose access to open reservation details entirely.

Another major frustration is the fragmented notification system for client communications. While Odoo can generate email templates for booking confirmations and invoices, it lacks native, streamlined SMS messaging built for pet-care workflows. Most of our clients prefer text alerts for last-minute changes, like delayed drop-off windows or a quick photo update during boarding. To send SMS, we have to rely on a third-party connector app that adds extra monthly cost and occasionally fails to sync booking status changes. Last month, we adjusted a grooming time for a senior dog and updated the reservation inside Odoo, but the linked SMS extension did not pick up the edit, so the owner showed up an hour early. Troubleshooting that sync error took nearly two hours of my afternoon, time I had reserved for reconciling vendor inventory orders.

A smaller but persistent issue is the reporting module’s lack of pre-built pet service analytics. We want to track metrics like grooming add-on uptake, boarding repeat rates, and no-show frequency by location, but Odoo’s default reports are oriented toward manufacturing and retail order data. I have to build custom report filters every time leadership asks for a performance snapshot, and these reports cannot be saved as reusable templates tailored to our pet wellness KPIs.

Odoo is a broad general-purpose ERP platform, not a purpose-built pet care management system. For our lean 11–50 person team with no dedicated in-house IT, these limitations add extra troubleshooting, configuration and workaround work. That overhead pulls me away from coordinating care staff, managing supply vendors, and staying on top of our tight daily pet-care service deadlines. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
