I started with thematic analysis and now I am using it for literature review as well. **What do you dislike about NVivo?** Differences between Windows and iOS versions. It is very hard to move from Windows to iOS **What problems is NVivo solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is an amazing tool for academic research. Helped me improve productivity. I had to analyse more than 30 interview scripts, previously with a smaller number of interviews, I analysed them manually. Using NVIVO 14 managed to almost three times more interviews in half of the time and more quality in my analysis. It provides a seamless way to organize, analyze, and visualize complex data. I especially liked the ability to generate word clouds, perform perceptual mapping, create hierarchy charts, and run cluster analysis, which made my findings more insightful and visually engaging. The transcription and data coding features were extremely useful in handling large volumes of qualitative data efficiently. Overall, it significantly enhanced the depth and clarity of my research outcomes. **What do you dislike about NVivo?** While NVivo is powerful, it does have a steep learning curve; it takes time to get used to its interface and fully leverage its wide range of features. At times, it felt less intuitive, especially when switching between different types of analyses. Additionally, the software can be resource-heavy, which slows down performance if the dataset is large. A more user-friendly interface and lighter system requirements would make it even better. **What problems is NVivo solving and how is that benefiting you?** NVivo is solving the challenge of managing and making sense of large volumes of unstructured qualitative data. It helps me systematically organize, code, and analyze transcripts, interviews, and open-ended survey responses, which would otherwise be overwhelming and time-consuming. The software’s ability to create visualizations like word clouds, hierarchy charts, perceptual maps, and cluster analyses allows me to identify hidden patterns, themes, and relationships in the data more effectively. For me, the biggest benefit has been turning raw qualitative insights into structured, evidence-backed findings. Instead of manually combing through data, I was able to save time, maintain accuracy, and focus on interpreting results—making my research outcomes richer, more reliable, and easier to communicate. ### 3. NVivo Collaboration Cloud repeatedly failed to sync, produced cryptic errors, and forced my team into manual workarounds that wasted hours. The UI is confusing, the documentation is shallow, and support was slow/unhelpful when we reached out. This product broke collaborative workflows rather than enabling them. If your project is time-sensitive, do not rely on this. **What problems is NVivo solving and how is that benefiting you?** I wanted to use Nvivo Collaboration Cloud to analyze qualitative data for a research study that has multiple researchers involved in the coding process. I thought it would allow us to do this. I was wrong. ### 4. I cannot access my data reliably due to repeated, numerous issues with both the license and collaboration cloud features. The program runs painfully slowly, frequently crashes, and makes even basic tasks frustrating. Customer support is only available via email — there is no option to speak with someone live — and response times are incredibly slow. This would be frustrating for any software, but it’s absolutely untenable for one that has so many ongoing problems and directly impacts access to research data. Right now, I cannot access my data at all and have no timely way to get help resolving the issue. For a product that is marketed toward professional research, this level of instability and lack of support is unacceptable. I will never recommend NVivo to anyone in the future. **What problems is NVivo solving and how is that benefiting you?** None. It is a terrible program. ### 5. The literal definition of adding low quality elements to make more money **Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** March 11, 2025 **What do you like best about NVivo?** It's a user-friendly and efficient system. **What do you dislike about NVivo?** Honestly, they have the worst costumer service I have ever dealt with (not the people themselves, but the policies their reps have to upload and the fact that they will not provide any answers over email and require Teams call to get basic answers). They sell perpetual licenses that now are effectively not useful a year later because they will not allow older versions (e.g., NVivo 14) communicate with newer versions (NVivo 15) as a ploy to get more money. I will be switching to web-based subscription platforms like Dedoose. Unfortunately they add in so many pitfalls to using the system in order to get you to buy the new version (where literally virtually nothing has changed in years beyond the fact that the newer versions be accessed by the older versions) that I will no longer purchase any NVivo licenses and strongly recommend anyone who uses a team-based coding approach stays away from it. This has been an ongoing frustration I have had as a long time NVivo user, but it has gotten substantially worse as they switch ownership to Lumivero. Also, just want to add that they make it very difficult for Mac and PC users to collaborate. **What problems is NVivo solving and how is that benefiting you?** At the moment, NVivo is causing me issues because it will not allow new versions to communicate with older versions, yet they sell "perpetual" licenses. It's causing a lot of issues for our team-based coding process. ### 6. DO NOT PURCHASE - EXPENSIVE AND INEFFECTIVE **Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** December 09, 2023 **What do you like best about NVivo?** I wouldn't say anything is great about this expensive program that you cant find for cheaper elsewhere. **What do you dislike about NVivo?** Crashes. I have half of my audio files transcribed and coded while the other half I have not been able to upload for the past three weeks because of a system error that they cannot yet resolve. They do not have a customer service line that you can directly call and when you send a customer service message the email you receive tells you that they are working on the issue and that you just have to stay put. I have not been able to do vital work for the past three weeks because of this issue. I have gone back and forth requesting for updates and nothing. I have asked for a refund and they have ghosted me. **What problems is NVivo solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is supposed to be helping me transcribe and anaylze my data but has not done so in actuality. Only delayed me. ### 8. It can be organized by user cases, research categories, or documents. Additionally, it has many options for analyzing the information obtained from fieldwork such as interviews or surveys. **What do you dislike about NVivo?** What I like the least about Nvivo is the access to the toolbar. Some options have very small text and it is not easy to understand which button is the correct one. **What problems is NVivo solving and how is that benefiting you?** Nvivo is my primary tool in my research and thesis with my postgraduate students. It allows me to organize information by categories (nodes), and make annotations on the margin of each coding to be used in the research report. It also allows me to obtain different types of data analysis, such as word clouds and coding frequency. Nvivo is an essential software without which fulfilling my task as a researcher would be very complicated. ### 9.
