## About Muck Rack
Muck Rack is the AI communications platform where trusted data, human expertise, and embedded intelligence come together to drive clarity, speed, and impact across the PR workflow. Founded in 2009 to support journalists and strengthen the media ecosystem, Muck Rack has grown into a single system of record used by thousands of organizations to make sense of the media conversation around them. Today, teams rely on Muck Rack to understand how their brand shows up across news, social channels, and AI-generated answers, and to act with confidence in a rapidly changing communications landscape. Purpose-built for communications and public relations professionals, Muck Rack brings together global media monitoring, trusted media data, AI automation, and analyst-led Media Intelligence into a single PR software platform. Teams can find and engage the right journalists, monitor coverage and conversations in real time, assess brand perception and narrative risk, and prove the impact of their work through unified reporting. All capabilities are powered by the same intelligent data layer, eliminating silos and enabling faster, more confident decision-making across the organization. At the foundation of the platform is visibility and intelligence across the full narrative. Muck Rack monitors news, social media, podcasts, newsletters, and global outlets, using advanced tagging, entity recognition, and entity-level sentiment to surface the coverage and conversations that matter most. Powered by Muck Rack’s Curation Engine, this monitoring is organized around meaning, not keywords—using AI trained and refined by Media Intelligence experts to verify relevance, categorize coverage, and deliver clean, structured reports ready for analysis and action. This intelligence is paired with the industry’s most trusted Media Database, built through a combination of advanced technology and an in-house editorial team that manually verifies journalists and outlets, ensuring accurate, up-to-date data that strengthens outreach, monitoring, and reporting. Muck Rack’s AI is embedded with intention and designed to empower communicators. AI automates time-consuming tasks such as research, filtering, summarization, targeting, and reporting, while human editorial and analyst expertise ensures nuance, credibility, and context. Embedded AI agents support every stage of the workflow, from building media lists and optimizing pitch recipients to summarizing coverage and connecting outreach activity to results. These capabilities extend into Generative Pulse, Muck Rack’s solution for Generative Engine Optimization and Answer Engine Optimization. As audiences increasingly rely on AI-generated answers, Generative Pulse shows how brands appear in those responses, which journalists and sources influence them, and how visibility and sentiment change over time across major large language models. With this insight, teams can understand and influence how earned media shapes AI answers and track progress alongside traditional PR metrics. Muck Rack also turns measurement into proof of impact. Dashboards, competitive benchmarking, pitch-to-coverage attribution, and executive-ready reports connect PR activity to outcomes such as share of voice, sentiment, narrative movement, and AI visibility. Media Intelligence adds a human-led advisory layer through Insight Reports, Curated Digests, and executive briefs that cut through noise and provide clear recommendations. Together, Muck Rack transforms PR from reactive reporting into a proactive, strategic driver of brand reputation management, crisis monitoring, trust, and influence.

## Muck Rack Reviews
  ### 1. Up-to-Date Media Database with Easy Chat Updates and Automated Coverage Tracking

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Autumn E. | Founder, Public Relations and Communications, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 07, 2026

**What do you like best about Muck Rack?**

The fact that Muck Rack has the most up-to-date media database is the number one reason I prefer it over other SaaS competitors. I also appreciate the chat feature, which makes it easy to request media profile updates, as well as the automated coverage tracking that simplifies reporting. The integrated UVM data from SEMRush is also helpful and stays current.

**What do you dislike about Muck Rack?**

The cost feels quite high for an individual user like me, and not every journalist-published story pulls into a media person’s profile. It also seems like there are certain publications where Muck Rack consistently misses coverage. On top of that, when an older article gets updated by a publication, the system doesn’t update the publish date, which then forces me to make manual fixes in my reports. Sometimes when I search a journalist's name natively, nothing comes up, but when I search in Google, their Muck Rack profile appears in the results. There have also been several occasions where there are duplicate profiles for no apparent reason that I have to reconcile with support.

**What problems is Muck Rack solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For me, the most important feature of Muck Rack is how it keeps media information up to date. It takes the hard work off my plate by reducing the need to research and confirm contact details, current bylines, staff positions, and similar updates.

  ### 2. All-in-One Solution with Room for Improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael Y. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 07, 2024

**What do you like best about Muck Rack?**

I find Muck Rack to be really comfortable as an all-in-one solution that covers all the different aspects any in-house PR team would need. It's great because we didn't need to go out to the market to source multiple different tools; we have one platform that does the job. From finding journalists to pitching stories and identifying trends, Muck Rack covers everything we need. The initial setup was very easy with a nice, smooth handover from sales through to customer success, making it pretty flawless.

**What do you dislike about Muck Rack?**

The database isn't always as up to date as it could be, which is a challenge with journalists moving around so frequently and job losses in the industry. The database can also be a bit US-centric, though I think that's improving. Additionally, there is a need for an API to integrate data points and analysis into other tools as part of our tech stack. An API is available but it's quite expensive, so having it for free or as part of a premium package would be beneficial.

**What problems is Muck Rack solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Muck Rack for its all-in-one media database, helping us find journalists, pitch stories, and identify trends without needing multiple tools. It covers everything our PR team needs, though the database could be more up-to-date.

**Official Response from Steven Knollmeyer:**

> Thanks for this great feedback, Michael! Our U.S. and Global Location widgets in Dashboards help break down the coverage you're tracking by geographic locations -- our team is reaching out to you directly with more information about this and collect any other feedback you would like to share.

  ### 3. Muck Rack Sets the Gold Standard for PR Pros

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matt O. | Associate Director, Media Relations, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Muck Rack?**

Muck Rack is the gold standard. I trust the media database to have updated information on publications and journalists and the UI is intuitive.

Overall it's a comprehensive product that covers all my needs as a public relations specialist. They also continuously add new, useful and thoughtful features.

**What do you dislike about Muck Rack?**

Their devs are too fast! Jk... but for real thy are constantly adding new features and sometimes I miss them for a bit. Fortunately, they have really helpful and responsive reps who are great about sharing updates to the product.

**What problems is Muck Rack solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps me find journalists and publications that might be interested in the stories my clients are pitching.

The media pitching and list features also help me stay organized and keep things in one place. I just discovered the feature where you can forward email interactions to log to journalists and it's incredible

Overall it allows me to do my job more efficiently which is critical when I'm working on multiple clients at the same time. I'm also often pitching multiple stories for multiple clients at the same time and it helps me stay sane .

**Official Response from Eliza Castillo:**

> Thanks for the great review. We’re glad Muck Rack is delivering a reliable, intuitive experience and helping you stay organized across multiple clients. It’s great to hear features like media lists and email logging are making your outreach more efficient.

We appreciate your note on keeping up with new features. We move quickly to ship improvements, and tools like our in-platform chat and training resources can help you stay up to speed on what’s new. If you haven’t already, your Customer Success Manager can also walk through recent updates tailored to your workflow.

Thanks again for sharing your experience.

  ### 4. Comprehensive Reporter Database with Robust Profiles and an All-in-One Workflow

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Public Relations and Communications | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 09, 2026

**What do you like best about Muck Rack?**

Very comprehensive database of reporters and outlets. The profiles for each reporter are built out well so you can see all of their recent coverage and trends of reporting. I also like that you can do everything - contact them, add them to a database, add coverage to a report, from one page so you're not jumping between internet tabs frequently.

**What do you dislike about Muck Rack?**

The reporting isn't always very intuitive. If I am tracking an article that was syndicated across 70+ outlets, sometimes it can be hard to manage all of the syndications. I recently noticed there was an article with a lot of syndications and instead of posting the article once in the reporter's profile, it was posted a few different times and the "view duplicates" tab all had a different amount of syndications - like 3 shares, 10 shares, 70 shares.

**What problems is Muck Rack solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Making it easy for my team to collaborate on media relations outreach efforts to make sure we're not double dipping / stepping on toes during our outreach, and having one place where all outreach is recorded

  ### 5. Muckrack Streamlines Outreach, Monitoring, and Reporting with an Easy, Custom Dashboard

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Public Relations and Communications | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Muck Rack?**

Muckrack allows me to do so much more than one thing when it relates to outreach, monitoring and reporting. Its easy to use, I can develop metrics that I want to see in the dashboard and then pull them into my own reports. The team was excellent in helping us get everything set up. New features are constantly being rolled out incorporating AI which I think makes the experience even better

**What do you dislike about Muck Rack?**

This is not necessarily a dislike but sometimes, records for journalists are updated as quickly as I think they can be especially when the contact details can be found online. Otherwise I don't have many dislikes. The learning curve takes a moment but all products take some getting used to.

**What problems is Muck Rack solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needs an "all-in-one" place to track pitches, find contacts, and measure where placements are being made with clients. One thing I love is how I'm about to integrate monitoring updates and alerts straight into slack which keeps me aware of whats happening in real time which is a service we really love provding for our clients.

  ### 6. Easy to Navigate, but Trade Publication Mentions Need Improvement

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Public Relations and Communications | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 09, 2026

**What do you like best about Muck Rack?**

Muck Rack is easy to navigate and well organized. Support is easy to reach and typically helpful. I appreciate the graphs available and the competitor share of voice.

**What do you dislike about Muck Rack?**

Muck Rack struggles to pull in our trade or industry publications. When they do pull in mentions from these publications they are often due to advertisements in the page columns and not articles. We've reached out several times for support, and while they were quick to respond, the problem has never been well resolved. Additionally, I wish there was an easier way to edit items picked up for competitor's share of voice because this is frequently inflated by couponing and advertisement sites.

**What problems is Muck Rack solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Muck Rack makes it easier to track and quantify our placements so we spend less time digging through the internet and manually adding values. The graphs are especially useful for visually reporting to clients.

  ### 7. Great Support and Pitching, But Dashboards and Coverage Tracking Need Work

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Public Relations and Communications | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 25, 2026

**What do you like best about Muck Rack?**

It is nice to have an all-in one pitching system that is connected to the way we track media coverage. The support team is very responsive (even if they don't have all the answers) and our rep does a great job at keeping us looped in with relevant updates.

**What do you dislike about Muck Rack?**

The dashboards are really clunky and it's frustrating that you can't select all to update something (such as removing the text before publishing). It's also annoying that you can search for podcasts, but not track their coverage. We have also experienced issues with Muck Rack not tracking coverage behind paywalls in our local market (Indianapolis). It would be great if Muck Rack could do a better job tracking all of these things. The AI media list building also feels very random, so I'm not sure it's intuitive enough for us to use right now. It is also frustrating from an agency perspective that we can only have five users utilize the TV Eyes integration. The press release sending process was great, but the reporting is terrible and really needs to be optimized like other programs have in a way we can easily share with clients and others.

**What problems is Muck Rack solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is helping us send pitches more effectively and reach markets that would be difficult to source otherwise. It's also helpful to track coverage for our clients and share back measurable results and data.

  ### 8. Proactive Monitoring with Room for UI Improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Benny T. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 23, 2026

**What do you like best about Muck Rack?**

I like that Muck Rack comes with monitoring in addition to the media database to find contact info. It proactively monitors for articles where clients are mentioned, so we don't have to, and sometimes it finds things before we do or things we're not aware of, which is helpful. Usually, this kind of feature is an additional cost. Also, the initial setup was pretty straightforward, there was nothing much to do really.

**What do you dislike about Muck Rack?**

The user interface could be a bit more intuitive, especially when searching for reporter contact info and creating/exporting media lists. I just find it easier to google the reporter name and then click on the result linked to Muck Rack. Also, the ability to select all the people in a search to export to an Excel sheet is lacking. I find that I have to scroll past through all the results and then I am able to actually select all with the check mark on the top left. If I don't scroll, it only selects the ones visible.

**What problems is Muck Rack solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Muck Rack to find reporter contact info for pitches and monitor client mentions in articles. It helps find news mentions we might miss, often without extra cost.

**Official Response from Eliza Castillo:**

> Thanks for the thoughtful review. We’re glad Muck Rack’s monitoring capabilities are helping you uncover client coverage that might otherwise be missed. Bringing media monitoring and journalist research together in one platform is a big part of the value we aim to provide.

We appreciate your feedback on search and list exports and we’ll pass this feedback along to our product team. Search is a major focus area for us as we continue adding more AI-powered search capabilities and entity-based discovery throughout the platform. Thanks again for sharing your experience.

  ### 9. Muckrack Makes Collaboration and Pitch Tracking Effortless

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Public Relations and Communications | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 23, 2026

**What do you like best about Muck Rack?**

I love how easy it makes it for my team to collaborate. I love that I can download my lists, track my pitches, create media alerts, and coverage reports. Muckrack makes it so easy for me to send my clients news hits.

**What do you dislike about Muck Rack?**

I think that most of the AI features are underdeveloped, some of the UI is buggy too. I have reported for many months that I can't see what lists a journalist is in when I go to the search function. It can just be slow sometimes too, and I have been having issues when uploading lists where it will create a custom contact for a journalist already in the database.

**What problems is Muck Rack solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Muck Rack solves the most tedious part of my job: figuring out exactly who to pitch and making sure my outreach actually lands. In food and hospitality, the writers who matter move around constantly, and the most interesting ones often aren't at the obvious outlets. Muck Rack lets me find the right people fast, see what they've genuinely been covering lately, and build targeted lists instead of guessing.
The biggest wins for me:

Surfacing the right journalists — including niche and independent voices, not just the marquee bylines
Verified, current contact info, so pitches don't bounce or land in a dead inbox
Each writer's recent coverage and beats at a glance, so I can tailor the angle before I ever hit send
Coverage tracking and clean client-ready reports without hours of manual searching
Real-time mention monitoring, so I know the moment a client lands a hit

Net effect: less time on research and list-building, more time on the actual pitch and the relationship — which is where the placements actually come from.

**Official Response from Eliza Castillo:**

> Thanks for the thoughtful review. We’re glad Muck Rack is helping your team collaborate more effectively and making it easier to track pitches, monitor coverage and share results with clients. It’s especially great to hear the platform is helping you spend less time on research and more time building relationships.

We appreciate your feedback on AI capabilities, list management and performance and we’ll pass this feedback along to our product team. We’re continuing to invest in AI-powered workflows and platform performance to make these experiences even smoother. Thanks again for sharing such detailed feedback.

  ### 10. Muck Rack Supports Monitoring and Pitching Efficiency

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 25, 2026

**What do you like best about Muck Rack?**

What I like best is being able to search for journalists, get recommendations for similar journalists, review their coverage, and then easily add them to lists and pitches. I also find the tracker and the coverage reports very helpful.

**What do you dislike about Muck Rack?**

A feature I would like to see Muck Rack add is one that allows me to see which journalists I have contacted. Right now I have to sort through pitches, but I would prefer a view feature that allows me to sort by recent email logs, notes, and a list of all contacted journalists who received different pitches in one rundown.

**What problems is Muck Rack solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Muck Rack is solving podcast searching and I am benefiting from that. It is working on adding AI media docs, but I could benefit from the AI supporting pitch angles and ideas based on my previous pitches and based on the journalists' coverage.
