What do you like best about Microsoft SharePoint?

The OOTB applications and content types makes it easier to create custom sites, site pages, subsites forms and libraries. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Microsoft SharePoint?

It is not user friendly for non-IT personnel. Some of the functionality can be complex. Errors result when breaking permissions from the parent and end users are not cognizant of what they are doing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Microsoft SharePoint:

If you are going to break inheritance of parent permissions, use groups and assign roles to those groups instead of assigning individual permissions.

If you cannot access SharePoint when using IE browser, clear the cache of the browser, refresh and try again. If not, use another browser such as Chrome.

When creating a custom form in SharePoint Designer, do not use required fields. Sometimes, when testing, these will give the illusion that it is not working. Do not make any fields required until you are prepared to test it fully.

Do not use the default library if and when you see it on a page. It will "break" when you attempt to customize the library. Create a library from scratch by going to "create an app". Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Microsoft SharePoint solving and how is that benefiting you?

I work as a help desk for a large SharePoint farm for a government organization. They use SharePoint for a variety of things such as filling out forms, submitting and archiving government documents. Employees also use SharePoint for external use to the public. The customer consumes SharePoint for internal social media reasons, such as announcing retirements, and consume SharePoint for more sophisticated purposes such as metrics of personnel using their services as well as documenting productivity of employees.
