What do you like best about Jamf?

Jamf Pro is the metaphorical Cadillac of macOS device management - from a feature and supportability standpoint, it is untouchable by other products. For iOS/tvOS management, its functionality is similar to other MDM solutions - the real value is macOS device management. Some of the most powerful features for our organization include App Installers (Jamf packages 3rd party apps from vendors and code-signs them to be suitable for deployment via Jamf on all processor types), Restricted Software (prevent users or groups of users from accessing certain macOS applications by path, name of binary, etc.), and same-day compatibility with the latest macOS versions. What do you dislike about Jamf?

The real value of Jamf Pro is macOS device management, but it comes at a cost. In the public higher education industry, the pricing is right at our breaking point (but still worth it). As with anything, a steeper discount for higher education would be beneficial. In our experience, customer support is average (definitely not outstanding), although we only have the standard support agreement. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Jamf solving and how is that benefiting you?

Using App Installers, we can distribute available third-party macOS software titles from the Jamf App Catalog to target computers in a smart computer group and automatically keep the apps up to date. It eliminates the IT time required to manually monitor, package, and update apps, streamlining the application lifecycle management process. Restricted software allows us to prevent users or groups of users from accessing certain macOS applications (by path, name of binary, etc.). For each application we restrict, we can specify the users to which the restriction applies and control what happens when the application is opened by those users. For instance, we can kill the restricted process, delete the application, and even display a message to the user. Finally, we rest easy knowing that Jamf is ahead of the curve with same-day compatibility with the latest macOS versions. We are never surprised or caught offguard by new macOS features and are confident we will be able to manage them with Jamf in inline with our organization's needs.
