Compared to other competitors, the main benefits I got from Scamalytics IP checking were its accuracy in identifying VPNs and suspicious IP addresses, the simplicity of the API response, and the fraud score.

I'd used Scamalytics website for manual IP investigation for quite a while. As fraudulent activity ramped up more, I wanted to investigate the API. I also did a bakeoff against a number of other IP address reputation providers with both fraudulent and non-fraudulent users to check the precision.

A very useful feature of Scamalytics IP Quality Score was their fraud score. This is helpful to distinguish between higher and lower risk IP addresses. In Scamalytics case, it was also useful to trust Enterprise Private Networks like https://www.zscaler.com and Consumer Privacy Network’s like Apple’s iCloud Private Relay which would otherwise be treated as datacenter server traffic.

Scamalytics is a very straightforward service to use. They had the best performance, only missing out on two spammers using residential IP addresses, and perhaps one CC tester in Egypt. For the Egypt IP, Scamalytics gave it a fraud score of 5/100, which is fairly low, but perhaps we would lower our acceptable score for riskier countries.

Some other competitors marked IP address from some large corporate networks of our customers as being likely fraudulent (they weren't), but Scamalytics made the correct determination for this.

Ultimately, the best way to evaluate a tool like this is to take some existing fraud and non-fraud cases and run them through multiple tools and see how they perform. In our case, Scamalytics was by far the strongest performer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
