"Strong Clinical EMR With a Great Team Behind It"

What do you like best about Instinct?

What I like best about Instinct is that the clinical workflow feels like the center of the system rather than something added onto a practice-management system. The treatment sheets aren’t just a digital version of paper, they’re where the team can see what’s due, what’s overdue and what’s coming next, place and carry out orders, document care and capture the related charges as the work happens. Having that tightly connected to the rest of the medical record makes a real difference, particularly in a busy hospital with multiple people involved in a patient’s care.

I also like that Instinct has been thoughtful about reducing the cognitive load on the clinical team. The visual treatment-sheet workflow, medication and dosing safeguards, automatic charge capture, and record summaries are good examples. Those are relatively small things individually, but when they’re built into what the team uses all day, every day, they add up. The internal and external communication tools are also better than any other system I've seen.

Beyond the current product, I’m super bullish on the direction Instinct is heading with AI, integrations and the broader platform. We push their team pretty hard about things we think could work better, and they engage with us in those conversations. I’ve described the relationship before as a genuine partnership, and that’s still how I view it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Instinct?

If I had to pick something, it would probably be the challenge of keeping up with how quickly Instinct evolves. They release new features and improvements regularly, and they do a good job communicating them through webinars, blog posts, updates to their online help resources, etc. The limiting factor is often on our side.

In a busy hospital, it takes real effort to make sure the right people notice a change, understand whether it affects their workflow, and then actually incorporate it into how the hospital operates. There have definitely been times when we’ve realized there was functionality available that we weren’t taking full advantage of simply because WE hadn’t kept up.

So it’s less a criticism of Instinct than a change-management challenge that comes with using a platform that's developing quickly. I’d still much rather have that problem than the opposite. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Instinct solving and how is that benefiting you?

One of the biggest problems Instinct has solved is fragmentation. In our previous environment, too much of the work surrounding patient care lived in separate processes, systems, paper, or simply in someone’s head. Instinct has allowed us to bring much more of the clinical workflow into one place. Treatment plans, orders, documentation, tasks, communication, etc are all right there and easy to see at a glance. It gives the team much better visibility into what’s happening with a patient and what still needs to happen.

One of the more unexpected benefits has been how much more flexible that has allowed us to become with staffing. Because the information and workflow are accessible from anywhere, we’ve been able to move a meaningful amount of work that doesn’t require hands-on patient care away from the hospital floor. Remote team members can review records, manage follow-ups and task lists, help coordinate callbacks, work on records and discharges, and communicate with clients while remaining connected to the same clinical record as the people in the hospital.

For us, that means less dependence on workarounds and institutional knowledge, better continuity across shifts and locations, and more flexibility in how we use the clinical team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
