## Gusto Reviews
  ### 1. Gusto Makes Payroll Fast, Easy, and Stress-Free—even in a Time Crunch

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amarisa B. | capacity building manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto is easy to use. I have very little experience with payroll before and have enjoyed how easy and quick it is to use while in a time crunch. I like the ability to be able to enroll into workshops to learn more and become more educated. I was able to use AI to figure out how to get my staff paid on time due to the holiday and it answered all my questions even when I did not know how to phrase my questions. The server is always quick and I am able to even effeciently use the mobile version

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I was notified a little later than expected about the holiday discrepancy and it affected our pay date.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

being able to have easy access and tracking of payments and time off hours!

  ### 2. Gusto: A One-Stop Shop for HR and Employee Management

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christopher D. | Routesetting and Facilities Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

As both an employee and a manager of other employees, I really appreciate how Gusto acts as a one-stop-shop for HR and employee-detail management needs. I can easily look up and edit both my own information as well as review and suggest changes for employees who report to me.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

As a manager of employees who work in different departments across our company, we've had to figure out ways to provide ancillary formal feedback outside of the formal review, as that appears to currently be restricted to one manager per employee. It would be nice to be able to define multiple managers for employees and allow multiple managers to provide formal reviews to one employee who works in different departments.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's very helpful to have so much employee information easily accessible and manageable in one platform. As an employee, being able to access bot my own details, paychecks, 401k stats, etc. in one place is very nice and saves time. As a manager, I find Gusto equally useful in tracking important employee information and providing feedback.

  ### 3. Easy-to-Navigate Gusto Dashboard With Great Support and Value

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marcy S. | Managing Director I Co-Founder, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like how easy it is to find what I need in the Gusto dashboard. I am busy and running payroll is just one part of my job. As a small business owner, I need to be able to quickly navigate to the right forms and submit payroll and manage benefits within the tool. I don't use the integrations really but I know they are there. The price compared to our previous systems was attractive, especially for a small team. I don't remember any onboarding training from their team, but it's been easy to onboard employees on our end. I appreciate the level of support so far.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

It's mildly challenging to on-board employees in different states. I wish there was a more centralized hub to help with this piece.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I needed a payroll platform with a high ability integration ability with other systems, but was also easy to use and straightforward. I have not used the AI component to its fully capability, but I look forward to trying this feature out.

  ### 4. Clear, Fast, and Easy to Navigate

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Annette E. | Fulfillment Associate, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

The information is clear and easy to find. The app performs well and cuts down the time I spend navigating, so I can get straight to work.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Occasionally, the app will not open causing me to fix my time either at home or the next day. If my mobile app isn't working, my coworkers also have issues simultaneously.

One thing I do not like about Gusto is that the total of my paycheck is displayed on the opening page of the app. If I'm around other coworkers. I don't always feel comfortable opening the app around them.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto integrates tax, paycheck, time information, and other pieces of information all in easily accessible locations. It has saved me so much time in my every day life since I don't have to fight with the application to find what I need.

  ### 5. Hands Down Best Customer Service and Best Tool for Small Business

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jacqueline G. | COO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 21, 2023

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Customer service has been very helpful whenever I’ve needed support. The reminders are excellent for keeping me on task, and I really love the scheduling feature they added this year—it means I have one less app to rely on day to day.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

The new scheduling feature is great, but would love to see a monthly view and it can be tedious to copy the schedule from week to week. It's easier to miss mistakes being only able to see a week at a time. I do appreciate that the scheduling integrates with payroll now. I'm glad it's part of the pricing too, which is nice.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Running a small business means operating with fewer resources, and Gusto streamlines everything for us so we can be more efficient and save time. Before Gusto, we relied on more apps that didn’t always integrate, which increased the potential for mistakes. Since switching, I’ve cut the time it takes to complete payroll in half because the process is so streamlined.

  ### 6. Intuitive, Consistent Interface That Makes Pay, Benefits, and Taxes Easy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Farah A. | Clinical Research Assistant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

The interface is unlike any other since it is user-friendly and very intuitive. The breakdown of my bi-weekly check really helps me see where my money is coming from and where it is going to.

I also appreciate that the interface stays consistent on the mobile app. Many programs/apps lose accessibility on their mobile apps but Gusto remains consistent no matter if it is on the computer or phone.

I also love that healthcare benefits are embedded into the space since I don't like having to go into a separate place to see my employer's healthcare plans. It is by far the best application I have ever used for a job. My last job used Gusto and I was very glad to find out that my current new job also uses Gusto.

I also am tax exempt from FICA taxes and with Gusto, my new employer easily put that information in. In the past, I have been taxed incorrectly maybe due to inaccessibility for my employers. I am glad that Gusto makes it easier for me during tax season.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

The only thing I might dislike (though that is a strong word), is the spending trends section. I wish it didn't only have to be linked to the Gusto Spending Account. I understand the limitations that Gusto may face with linking other Bank accounts to this feature. I wish I could just get rid of that part on my Gusto account since it takes up space for no reason.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto helps solve many accessibility and efficiency issues. Before Gusto, I used to struggle to keep track of all my information, benefits, pay, tax documents, etc. Everything used to be scattered and now it is all in one place which allows for less serious mistakes. I don't have to worry about where to find my W-2 when it is tax season or if my hours are wrongly documented, I can easily check and let my employer know.

  ### 7. Year-to-Date Pay Chart Makes Income Crystal Clear

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anderson G. | Fulfillment Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

My favorite feature, and the one that I use the most, is the Year-to-date pay chart. This visual really helps me understand my income in a way I wasn't able to in previous software. I also love how easy it is to adjust my paycheck split, and to see how much of my paycheck is going into which account before my direct deposit even hits.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I personally don't have any negative feedback. I wish my company utilized your app for more of our work functions (i.e time off, benefits, and if I recall form a previous job - clocking in & out via Gusto)

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto makes the over view of my pay easier to see and understand. I do not miss the days of straining my eyes over a paystub to see the breakdown of where my money is going. Gusto offers a faster and more user friendly platform to take control of your cash flow.

  ### 8. Easy Payroll, Taxes, and Onboarding for Small Businesses with Gusto

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shae G. | Owner, clinic director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

It is easy to use as a small business so that I don't have to hire a separate accountant to do my payroll. They manage my state and federal taxes and help with onboarding new staff. It is intuitive and has many more features that I don't need but would be beneficial to larger companies.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Honestly, I can't think of anything I don't like about Gusto right now. Well, the one thing I can tell you was I had a call once with a benefits representative that felt like a waste of time because they wanted to take over the health insurance plan I already had but didn't offer me anything new. I am now in the process of looking to switch using the health insurance plans offered through Gusto.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Solves the problems of onboarding and making sure we are up to date on paying quarterly taxes. This has saved me so much time and fees with my taxes.

  ### 9. GUSTO’s Intuitive Interface Makes Time Updates and Pay Insights Easy

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tony W. | Operations Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 31, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

GUSTO has an interface and functionality that makes it easy to understand, use and teach to others new to the feature. Options to update your Time and the Pay insights have truly been useful to me personally.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Our particular company has had issues with consistently using the Direct Deposit feature so we are not using it at this time. We have tried to restart the feature but I am not privy to the issues we are facing that prevent us from doing so.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Consistently logging in and out of work is so easy and effortless that a few of our older teammates that are not fond of new technology found it very easy to use and are using it correctly and consistently.

  ### 10. Gusto Makes Payroll and Scheduling Effortless for My Small Business

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tessa C. | Library Media Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

What I like most about Gusto is how easy it has made running payroll and scheduling for my small business. I recently switched over, and it has already saved me a ton of time and stress. The onboarding process was straightforward, my employees were able to get set up quickly, and the app is simple for everyone to use for clocking in and managing their information.

As a small business owner, I wear a lot of hats, so having payroll, employee management, and scheduling all in one place has been incredibly helpful. I also appreciate that it feels modern and user-friendly instead of overly complicated like some other payroll systems. So far, it’s been a great experience and definitely worth the investment.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

One downside I’ve noticed so far is that I would love the option to create a dropdown menu of my clients and their addresses for scheduling. As a cleaning business owner managing multiple homes and recurring clients, that feature would make scheduling much faster and more organized.

Other than that, the platform has been very easy to use and has simplified a lot of the payroll and employee management process for me.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is helping me streamline payroll, employee onboarding, and time tracking for my cleaning business. Before using it, managing employee information, payroll, and scheduling felt scattered and time-consuming. Having everything in one platform has made the process much more organized and efficient.

It’s also helping me look and operate more professionally as my business grows. My employees can clock in, access their information, and stay updated without constant back-and-forth communication, which saves me time and allows me to focus more on clients and growing the business.

  ### 11. Streamlined HR with a Fun Twist

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Thomas C. | YouTube Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 12, 2025

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I use Gusto for HR and benefits, and timekeeping, and I love how it solves the problem of decentralization of the employee benefit and work experience. It's fun and serves as a one-stop hub for all my needs whenever I have benefit questions. The interface is just great; it's lighthearted but powerful. I find the usability and fun atmosphere appealing. The time tracking and auditing of my timecard are very easy, and I can manage my HSA account very easily while also handling claims. The initial setup was very easy with little to no roadblocks, making it a smooth experience.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

The mobile app has some limitations compared to the desktop website. It would be easier and quicker if there were more options to type in your time rather than using the 'rolling' numbers option.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto solves the decentralization of employee benefits and work experience. It is a one-stop hub for benefit questions and makes time tracking easy. The interface supports easy management of HSA accounts and claims.

  ### 12. Easy-to-Use Payroll with Outstanding Support and All-in-One HR Tools

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brandi L. | Office Manager/HR Management/Administration Manager, Health, Wellness and Fitness, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 12, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto provides the comfort of an easy-to-use payroll system backed by excellent customer service. Everything is simple to navigate, and finding employee benefits is quick and stress-free. The platform keeps payroll and benefits management much easier and more organized overall.

Gusto delivers an outstanding level of performance, with pricing that feels excellent for all the options and features they provide. Their AI intelligence is next level, constantly adapting and improving to make payroll, benefits, and overall workforce management easier and more efficient. The platform is user-friendly and reliable, and the strong customer service makes it a great experience.

This company has saved me countless hours each week. The biggest benefit for me is the ease of use, along with the outstanding customer service I’ve received. What initially drew me in was the seamless integration within the app for benefits, time off, scheduling, documents, taxes, and W-2s—all in one place. With great customer service and an easy payroll system, Gusto creates a smooth, reliable experience for both employers and employees.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

The one thing I like least is that changing an employee’s hours or pay can take several steps, rather than offering a simple dropdown or a quicker edit option. A more streamlined process for making quick adjustments would make the platform even better.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used to struggle with pay periods and, honestly, just getting employees paid in general. Now, with Gusto, it’s as easy as clicking a button, and that has helped ensure paychecks are correct and the right taxes are withheld.

  ### 13. Fast, Reliable Payments Straight to My Bank Account

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Angie Z. | Administrative Assistant/ Project Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 11, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

What I like the most, payment says it will be available in 1-5 business days, I live and Honduras and once my boss has submitted my payment, I receive it directly to my bank account in 1 business day.

It has a flat rate of 1.50%, although I think it’s high, I’ve send higher rates.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

There’s no option for you to use PayPal, only a bank account, they should integrate other options and lower charging rates such as the 1.50% they charge for each payment received.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There was some cases on where they charged additional fees, but it was returned to my account so I’m glad they are honest about that.

Also I think customer support should be a bit faster.

Also whenever I use Gusto on my phone and go to a different tab, it always logs me out. Even if it was just for a couple of seconds.

  ### 14. Everything at Your Fingertips—Organized, Simple, and Admin-Friendly

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Zoe R. | Administrative Assistant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 08, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I love that everything is at my fingertips; submitting time, clock in/out, submitting expenses, time off requests. As an admin employee, it's also great for my daily tasks. Extremely organized and easy to use!

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I can honestly say that there's nothing I dislike about this app/website. Everything is where it needs to be and so easy to find and use.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before Gusto, we were tracking everyone's expense receipt in Google Suites. Which could be a pain because employees had to send me their receipts, I then had to email them to myself to be able to upload them onto our Drive then to our tracking sheet. Now, it's easy as letting our employees know to upload their receipts through the app or desktop version on their profile. It's saved us SO much time in the process.

  ### 15. Effortless Payroll, but Needs Improvement on Leave Policies

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mehreen Z. | OPTOMETRIST, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 25, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I really like the ease of doing things with Gusto. It's very good in terms of handling taxes and deductions, so I never have to worry about anything, as it just automatically takes care of it for me. Running payroll is very simple with Gusto. I find onboarding employees very easy, and dismissing employees, along with managing benefits, is also very straightforward. Additionally, the initial setup was pretty simple, and there was a lot of support.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

If you have an employee who's on leave, you still get charged for it unless you dismiss it. Also i think price could be better

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find Gusto makes running payroll and onboarding effortless. Dismissing employees is simple too. It handles taxes and deductions seamlessly, so I never worry about them.

  ### 16. Effortless Payroll & Privacy Features Shine

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** desiree r. | Evaluator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 08, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like Gusto's payroll feature the most because it allows me to change my preferences without bothering HR. I also like seeing my benefits all at once, which is valuable for privacy reasons. The initial setup of Gusto was simple and very easy.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

What doesn't work is it's hard to see my estimated paycheck through the app versus online. I would like that to be easier. I need to go through multiple steps to be able to see this information.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto for payroll, performance reviews, and scheduling. I like the payroll feature the most because I can change my preferences without having to bother HR. Seeing all my benefits at once is also valuable for privacy concerns. Knowing my medical benefits and my time off policy is easily accessible is a relief. I want to know who I am insured with and be able to see my policies easily. I like tracking goals and being able to see important documents such as benefits and performance reviews.

  ### 17. Intuitive, Reliable Payroll Automation That Simplifies HR in One Place

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Manuel F. | Director of Operations, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 08, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

What I like best about Gusto is how intuitive and organized the platform is for managing payroll, employee information, and benefits all in one place. The user interface is very clean and easy to navigate, which makes day-to-day tasks much faster compared to other systems I’ve used in the past.

One of the most helpful features is the payroll automation and employee self-service functionality. Running payroll is simple, reliable, and saves a significant amount of administrative time each pay period. Employees can easily access pay stubs, tax documents, and benefits information without needing constant assistance from HR or management.

Gusto also integrates well with accounting and expense management tools, which helps streamline financial reporting and reconciliation processes. The onboarding process for new employees is straightforward, and the platform provides a smooth overall experience for both administrators and employees.

Another big advantage is the customer support and overall reliability of the system. Whenever we’ve had questions or needed assistance, the support team has been responsive and helpful. Overall, Gusto has improved efficiency, reduced manual work, and simplified payroll and HR management for our organization.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

One aspect I dislike about Gusto is that some advanced reporting and customization features can feel somewhat limited, especially for organizations with more complex operational or accounting needs. While the platform works very well for standard payroll and HR management, there are times when generating highly detailed or customized reports requires additional manual work outside the system.

Another area that could be improved is the responsiveness of certain features during peak payroll periods, as occasional delays or extra loading time can happen. In addition, while the integrations are generally useful, some third-party connections could offer deeper functionality and more flexibility for syncing data automatically.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is solving several time-consuming administrative and payroll management challenges for our organization. Before using the platform, many HR and payroll tasks required more manual tracking, follow-ups, and coordination between different systems. Gusto centralizes payroll, employee records, onboarding, benefits, and tax documentation into a single platform, which has significantly improved efficiency and organization.

One of the biggest benefits has been reducing the amount of manual work required for payroll processing and employee management. Automated payroll calculations, tax filings, and direct deposit features help minimize errors and save valuable time every pay cycle. The employee self-service tools have also reduced the number of repetitive HR requests because employees can independently access their pay stubs, tax forms, and personal information.

  ### 18. Easy, All-in-One Payroll & HR—But Support and Advanced Features Need Work

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Francois B. | Support Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 07, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

What I like best about Gusto
is how simple and organized it makes payroll and HR. The platform is really easy to use, even for people without a payroll background, and a lot of the manual work is automated — things like payroll runs, tax filings, onboarding paperwork, and employee self-service.

I also like having everything in one place instead of juggling multiple systems for payroll, onboarding, benefits, and time tracking. The employee onboarding experience is smooth, and employees can easily access pay stubs, tax forms, and personal info on their own.

Overall, it saves a lot of time and reduces the usual payroll/admin headaches while still feeling modern and user-friendly.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

One downside is that customer support can be hit or miss, especially when dealing with more complicated payroll or tax issues. For basic things it’s usually fine, but resolving more detailed problems can sometimes take longer than expected. Some features, like reporting and customization, also feel a bit limited once your company starts growing or has more complex needs.

Pricing can also add up over time as you add employees or extra HR features, and there are occasional interface updates that make workflows less intuitive than before. Overall the platform works really well for straightforward payroll, but there’s definitely room for improvement in support responsiveness and advanced functionality.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is mainly solving the problem of managing payroll, taxes, onboarding, and HR tasks manually across multiple systems. Before using it, a lot of those processes were more time-consuming and easier to mess up — especially payroll taxes, employee paperwork, and keeping everything organized.
The biggest benefit has been saving time and reducing stress around payroll and compliance. Payroll runs are mostly automated, tax filings are handled for us, and onboarding new employees is much smoother since documents, direct deposit setup, and tax forms are all centralized in one place. It’s also helpful having employees manage their own pay stubs and tax documents without needing HR to send everything manually.
Another benefit is that everything is integrated — payroll, benefits, PTO tracking, and onboarding all work together instead of needing separate tools or spreadsheets. That’s made day-to-day admin work a lot more efficient and has helped reduce errors and back-and-forth communication.

  ### 19. Intuitive Gusto: Easy Navigation and Outstanding Integration Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tasha T. | Operations Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto is intuitive for me. I find that the menu and options are easy to navigate and aren't over complicated like other solutions can be. Another facet of Gusto that contributes to our positive experience is customer service. They helped us through the integration process as we integrated with Xero- it was simple and someone from Gusto supported the entire way.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Gusto sends a lot of reminder emails for various tasks, which can add to overall email fatigue.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is a solution for us that is efficient, performs well, and offers many services at a fraction of the cost that we were paying for similar functionality from ADP. It is a very intelligent tool at a good price and has smart AI capabilities.

  ### 20. Effortless Scheduling, but Mobile Compatibility Needs Work

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jesenia W. | Assistant Director of Operations, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 06, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I enjoy being able to see how many hours the associates are working in real time and not having to guess. I like being notified when people haven't taken a break. I also like that my associates can use Gusto as a debt account, which helps with saving cash and seeing predicted earnings based on submitted timesheets. The initial setup was really easy because I had used the platform at another company, so it was a smooth transition. I also enjoy using Gusto with Gemini, as I have no problems with that.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Sometimes the group schedule doesn't load, and as a manager, I have to grab my laptop to do my schedule instead of doing it on an iPad or iPhone. I'm forced to actually grab my laptop. i also dislike how the website will go dowmm for hours

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto simplifies scheduling across locations, enabling me to manage hours efficiently. I can track associate hours in real-time, ensuring part-timers don't exceed 35 hours, and receive break notifications. My team can save money and forecast earnings easily.

I use Gusto for payroll and time tracking because it makes it easy to avoid doing manual payroll. I like that I can log and change hours easily. Gusto is easy to use and the customer service is helpful. It gives me time back by simplifying tasks that would otherwise take time from my workload. The initial setup was extremely easy.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

We have a lot of contractors, and they complain they can't log hours on their phone. I wish contractor payroll/time tracking was the same as full/part-time employees.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto for payroll and time tracking, which saves me time from manual payroll, and it's easy to change hours. It's easy to use, with helpful customer service, giving me time back to focus on my workload.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michelle B. | Project Controller, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 06, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

What’s most helpful about Gusto is that it basically takes all the headache out of payroll and HR and puts everything in one place. It automates payroll, handles the tax filings, and keeps you compliant without you having to stay on top of every little detail

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Customer support can be hit or miss depending on timing, and it’s not always available outside normal business hours.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto mainly helps solve the problem of how time‑consuming and complicated payroll and HR can be. Instead of having to manually calculate payroll, figure out taxes, and keep up with compliance, it handles all of that automatically for you.
It also solves the issue of having information spread out everywhere.
You’re saving a lot of time because payroll and admin tasks are automated
You don’t have to stress about tax filings or compliance issues
Everything is organized in one system instead of jumping between tools
It’s easier to manage employees, onboarding, and benefits

  ### 23. Simple and effective software for work

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nathalie H. | Customer Care manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 25, 2023

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

It's very user friendly, straight forward, has all tools I need to get paystubs, work calendar and hours.
It's convenient to manage time, clock in/out, review everything related to work pay and taxes.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

One thing I don't like is the goals and performace section because it is difficult to customize and does not allow to make changes without posting every single change made. It would be a lot better to have a customizable section where we can delete, edit and make changes as needed. That part needs a lot of improvement.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves the problem to access different platforms to access all the work data and documents needed for employees and supervisors.
It saves time and lessens the frustration to have the most important and relevant information in one place.

  ### 24. My experience with Gusto

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nour A. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2025

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I’ve recently appreciated how easy Gusto makes it to manage payroll, tax filings, and employee information all in one place. The dashboard is intuitive, reports are easy to access, and the automated reminders help keep everything organized. It saves us time and reduces administrative stress.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Overall, our experience has been very positive. If anything, additional customization options for reports and more advanced filtering tools would be helpful for businesses that need deeper insights. Other than that, the platform works great.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto simplifies payroll and takes the stress out of the process by making sure payments are accurate and always arrive on time. It also streamlines the organization of tax documents and direct deposits, keeping everything in one place. This has saved me time and eliminated the hassle of handling manual paperwork or experiencing unnecessary delays.

  ### 25. Effortless Payroll with Fast, Knowledgeable Gusto Chat Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amanda S. | Office Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

We've had a great experience using Gusto for payroll. The platform is very user-friendly and easy to navigate, making payroll and employee management simple and efficient. One of my favorite features is the chat support—it's fast, knowledgeable, and consistently helpful whenever I have a question. Overall, Gusto has made managing payroll much easier, and I'd definitely recommend it.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Gusto is almost too easy to use that sometime I get in over my head with thinking I know how to do something and then I don't Gusto Chat support always helps me to figure it out.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is helping us to get our employees paid quickly. Really love the feature where employees can set up to be paid up to 4 days sooner!

  ### 26. Accurate Time Tracking and Effortless Payroll with Gusto

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kendra Z. | Operations Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

The time‑keeping features are accurate and easy for our team to use, which has made managing multiple shifts much smoother. Running payroll is incredibly simple and saves us a significant amount of time each pay period. Onboarding through Gusto is also one of the easiest ways to ensure all of the necessary signatures and documents are done.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

We recently switched from using Quickbooks for accounting to another application not supported by Gusto, therefore, we are seeking ways to pull reports for payroll into the new accounting software.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto has reduced the time spent on processing payroll by over four hours for our bi-weekly pay dates. It also provides great reporting for reviewing employee hours, state taxes paid via Gusto, and managing benefits. We are also impressed with the ease in which employees can clock in and clock out as well as see their hours on the app, thus reducing the amount of questions revolving around hours and pay.

  ### 27. Gusto Makes Pay Details and 401(k) Tracking Simple

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** taisa s. | Gaffer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto makes looking at my pay details very simple, we use it to see our contributions made to our 401k and how our pay gets broken down. This year for my taxes I used the partner company, through my gusto and it allowed the tax process to be easier and was priced reasonably. All my info is easily transferrable and downloadable.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I would enjoy to see improvements in the graphic aspect of the website. I think it could use more pops of color as a website and/or a bit more interactive buttons other than just the sidebar options.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is solving a lot of my budgeting issues that I have dealt with in the past, it was something that was shown when i first opened my account within the onboarding process.

  ### 28. Helpful Paycheck Notifications and Effortless Onboarding

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Abby A. | Farmhand, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 08, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I love the notifications I get to my phone about when I get paid and what my check is. I am an hourly employee, so my paycheck changes by the week and it is nice to be notified. I also really appreciated how easy it was to onboard at my new job. I didn't have to fill out any paperwork and Gusto was even able to transfer my account and routing numbers just by signing into my bank account on the site.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I am not sure yet. I have only had it for about a month. There hasn't been anything specific to come up for me yet that I dislike. The only thing is a personal preference -- Gusto asked for my pronouns. I believe that shouldn't be relevant to banking/payroll. Personal opinion though.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ease of use, access to an app for my phone, clear and concise

  ### 29. Stress-Free Payroll with Gusto’s Automated Tax Filing and Compliance

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Divya R. | Accountant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 01, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

User interface, Automated Tax Filing: One of the biggest stressors is ensuring state and federal taxes are calculated and filed correctly. Gusto automates this, reducing the risk of IRS penalties.

Compliance Management: Keeping up with changing labor laws and filing requirements across different states is difficult. Gusto tracks these changes for you.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Nothing. It is all good for now I think.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Common Problems Gusto Solves

Automated Tax Filing: One of the biggest stressors is making sure state and federal taxes are calculated and filed correctly. Gusto automates this process, which helps reduce the risk of IRS penalties.

Compliance Management: Keeping up with changing labor laws and filing requirements across different states can be difficult. Gusto tracks these changes for you, so it’s easier to stay on top of what’s required.

Time-Consuming Data Entry: Instead of relying on manual spreadsheets, it can sync with time-tracking tools to automatically calculate hours, overtime, and gross-to-net pay.

Employee Self-Service: It cuts down on the constant “where is my paystub?” emails. Employees get their own portal to download tax forms ($W-2s$, $1099s$) and review their pay history.

Onboarding Friction: Gusto streamlines new-hire paperwork (like $I-9s$ and $W-4s$), which makes the first day smoother for both the manager and the employee.

  ### 30. Effortless Navigation and Onboarding—Gusto Makes Payday Simple

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kylie M. | Event Coordinator/Administration, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 01, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like how easy Gusto is to navigate and how simple it is to add my administrative information. Integrating my bank account was effortless, and the on-demand pay option has been wonderful. Logging in is fast and straightforward, and setting up and onboarding my information was just as easy—I was finished within five minutes.

I haven’t paid anything into Gusto myself, but it’s worth every penny my employer spends. I haven’t used any of the AI features yet, but I’m sure they’re great. I also really appreciate the schedule-drafting feature because it saves me time; I can enter everything and hold off on publishing until I’m sure it’s ready. Overall, I genuinely appreciate how easy Gusto is to use and navigate.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I believe Gusto is a great product. I would prefer a tab on the UI to navigate to my schedule.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto has solved my paycheck-tracking problems. It makes it easy for me to track my income throughout the year, which is something I haven’t been able to get from another application before.

  ### 31. User-Friendly, Attractive App with room for improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cassidy E. | Operations Manager, Consumer Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 01, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Very user friendly with helpful guidance regarding state and federal policies and procedures. User App is attractive and easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

The geolocation features could use some attention. I entered all of our current work locations and assigned employees to their designated sites. During our first week using Gusto, many employees reported that Gusto wasn’t registering their location accurately, and they had to override the app’s warning. I adjusted the geolocation radius for each site to the maximum (1,000,000 sqft), but many of our locations still aren’t being found accurately.

Additionally, the time clock settings aren’t conducive for companies with overnight shifts. Many of my employees work 5pm to 1am, and if someone has a time punch issue, I have to make two corrections for the same shift instead of adjusting the dates to match their time in a single transaction. For example, if someone forgets to clock out at 1am, I have to clock them out of their original time punch at 11:59pm and then create an additional time entry from 12:00am to 1am on the following day. When setting the schedule, there’s an option to adjust the DATE and the TIME in one operation, so I’m confused as to why that same capability isn’t available in time tracking.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used ADP payroll services before Gusto and the biggest complaint we had was all of the additional fees and charges for every little adjustment, payroll discrepancy or unexpected payout. They charged fees for everything! We like that Gusto rolls most of its perks into packages that can be customized according to our companies needs.

  ### 32. Stress-Free Payroll with Gusto

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joy D. | Tax Preparer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 05, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I really like using Gusto for payroll because it makes filing and paying forms on time much easier. I love the ease of not having to worry about deadlines, and it's reassuring that I don't have to stress about missed deadlines since I trust Gusto to file returns on time and accurately. The way they handle payments is great too—it's so much easier than having to pay monthly or quarterly. Also, the initial setup of Gusto was very simple!

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

The report section seems to take me forever to see the reports I need.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto solves filing and paying forms on time, relieving deadline worries. I trust Gusto to file returns on time and accurately. It's easier handling payments without monthly or quarterly hassles.

  ### 33. Best-in-Class Self-Serve Tools That Make Payroll a Breeze

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nitin T. | Chief Operating Officer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I enjoy that the self-serve features are truly the best aspect; employees can go into the system and obtain their own pay statements and update their tax documents with out having to have the company/HR department involved. This is literally perfect as a break from a long workday. In addition gusto also makes processing payroll easy as all taxes are automatically filed and I am no longer spending hours each week manually calculating things and also the ability to "delegate" tasks through approval levels is very good as different managers can complete different types of responsibilities such as time off and attendance corrections, etc.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Navigation is a problem. Finding even something as simple as an employee pay statement is buried 3 menus deep for no apparent reason and i find myself growing tired of this quickly. Load times are slow (especially if we are pulling large amounts of data). Chat support is hit or miss; sometimes you get someone who actually knows what he/she is doing and other times you are waiting for what feels like an eternity for him/her to look-up the answer to your question that you were looking for. No workflow notification exists for termination of employees; which, i would say is a big oversight.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before using Gusto we had multiple systems handling payroll, benefits, time tracking, etc which made it difficult to track and manage information but with gusto, we have one platform for all of our needs and therefore we are no longer require to constantly jump between platforms and enter the same information multiple times. Additionally, Gusto handles multi-state tax issues which was a major headache for us in the past and is now simply taken care of.

  ### 34. Clean, Smooth Gusto Experience With Great Benefits and Fast Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Megan V. | Support Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Not only does Gusto have a clean interface that makes navigating through employee benefits and time tables easy, but they also don't make you go through hoops when needing to edit or change things such as tax forms or address updates. Even in a rush, I know I'll be able to log in to Gusto with one click, and easily clock-in to my shift without needing to hunt for anything. I'm someone who is often forgetful, but Gusto having a direct link to your FSA information and balances is incredible for helping with my finances. It has helped our company integrate with our other platforms and software for billing and healthcare, and runs smoothly every time. There are very few times I've had to reach out to support, but they always answered quickly and with a response that actually answered my questions. Gusto seems to offer great pricing and incentives not only to employers, but has great benefits for employees too! I also really appreciate the AI breakdowns for monthly spending, as it combines right into my paycheck.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I would love for the Gusto app to allow for clocking in-and-out. As it is, this seems to only be available on the desktop page, which is not always convenient. Although rare, there may be times where I'm on the go and needing to switch from, say, my lunch time and into PTO or to clock out. This would really benefit both employers and employees, by saving time and ensuring we can handle these things then-and-there, rather than trying to remember once home.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm so thankful for the in-app ability to review my FSA information. There are many times, especially as it gets closer to the end of the enrollment year, that I need to check my balances. Gusto makes it easy without forcing you off-site with a whole different log-in or credentials.

  ### 35. Clean, Intuitive Payroll & HR with Seamless Integrations and Reliable Performance

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kandice C. | Human Resources Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto has been excellent to use day-to-day. The UI is clean, intuitive, and easy to navigate, making payroll and HR tasks feel straightforward rather than time-consuming. Integrations work seamlessly with our existing systems, which helps keep everything connected without extra effort. Performance has been reliable and efficient, with no major issues or delays. From a pricing standpoint, the value is strong for what you get, especially considering the time saved and reduced administrative burden. Onboarding was smooth, and support has been responsive and helpful whenever needed. The platform also continues to evolve, with smart features and automation that make processes even more streamlined.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

If I had to point out a downside, it would be that while Gusto is very user-friendly, some of the more advanced features and customizations are a bit limited compared to more complex payroll systems, which can be frustrating if you need highly tailored reporting or workflows.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are currently integrating Gusto’s Benefits platform for our health and life plans, which will streamline administration, reduce costs, and save a significant amount of time by keeping everything centralized in one system.

  ### 36. Clear, Easy Payroll Tracking with a Delightful Animated Pig

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Wink S. | Presenter, Performer, Consultant, Sign Language Interpreter, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

The ease of tracking my employees payments and W2s, my contractors 1099s and the interface is, most of the time, very clear and easy to follow... Finally I LOVE the animated pig, a company that puts these kinds of touches on their product is awesome in my opinion, it reminds me of the old days of MailChimp

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Sometimes getting changes to documents can be frustrating, lengthy, and several emails back and forth. However, getting questions answered is quite easy and fast. If you stay on top of your needs you can get the documents corrected in time. I also think the pricing is a bit high at times and it seems to keep creeping up.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It handles my payroll smoothly the performance of the platform is very fast and pleasant to work with. They also do not change the UI all that often so I know what I need to do when I log in and get it done fast. It frees me up to work on other things in my business. Also it handles sending out W2s and 1099s which is one less hassle for me during tax season

  ### 37. Easy, Affordable Payroll with Helpful Integrations and Responsive Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anna M. | Director of Finance and Accounting, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

It is so easy to use and it is very affordable. The integrations are helpful and everything works well with our other systems. They are very responsive when there are any issues and their AI intelligence has helped me correct mistakes before running payroll on multiple occasions. Could not ask for better performance from a payroll company.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Honestly nothing - everything works so well and is very helpful, price point was our main thing and I thought we might sacrifice a lot by going with somewhere cheaper but that did not happen at all!

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having a consistent payroll that allows for off cycle payrolls. We run an aftercare program and before we had to pay a lot of money to run an off cycle payroll for that but now we don't need to worry about that!

  ### 38. Gusto Makes Payroll Effortless with Smooth, User-Friendly Features

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Isabel R. | Wax Specialist/Owner-Operator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 31, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I think Gusto is extremely user friendly, and while I have nothing else to compare it to because this is my first time using a payroll company, I've been satisfied with the features it provides. I specifically appreciate the payroll reminders and the way you can sync them to your phone calendar. The website functions smoothly and I've never had any issues with the software. Additionally, I think the pricing is extremely reasonable for the peace of mind of having a great system that is easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I have absolutely zero negative feedback!

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Payroll isn’t really a “problem,” but Gusto definitely makes it easy. I love that I can just log in and run payroll in seconds. It’s a big help for my time management and keeps the whole process quick and straightforward.

  ### 39. Gusto Makes Payroll Fast and Effortless for Our Small Office

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dr. Egbert R. | Chief Executive Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 23, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto makes payroll so much easier - it allows me to track location via device GPS for hours on the clock, then I can review the hours and breaks and approve any time off requests. All PTO benefits and healthcare are all synced and I can submit payroll in 5 minutes! Then all the tax forms are automated and submitted by Gusto. I've been using it for over 6 years and it has been amazing for my small medical office.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Sometimes the process of onboarding or dismissing an employee is a little bit involved, but with phone support and chat support and the ability to share my screen with tech support they have been able to walk me through it every time.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I now have a completely seamless process that saves me hours of frustration over quickbooks payroll. I have my work comp insurance, health insurance, payroll all synced together. It deducts from my bank account and direct deposits to the employees flawlessly. I don't even have to do Worker's Comp premium audits any more since they already have access to actual wages and hours worked along with the tax forms.

  ### 40. Easy-to-Navigate, User-Friendly Payroll and Benefits Management

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mental Health Care | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto is very easy to navigate. My team can submit onboarding forms and timesheets, request sick time and vacation, and I can manage payroll and benefits. It also makes it simple to merge payroll with the 401K system. Overall, it’s a very user-friendly system.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

There have been times when I’ve underpaid or overpaid certain tax items. These issues do get remedied eventually, but I worry that there may be things not being caught that I don’t even know about. I rely on the Gusto team to reduce errors, and when mistakes do happen, I expect them to be very minimal and infrequent.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto has helped me pay my employees on time, and it makes the process easy. I was looking for a simple system, and that’s exactly what I have with Gusto. I used ADP and it was too complex even though it had many features we struggled to use it.

  ### 41. Best-in-Class Value: Easy Setup, Strong Integrations, and Smooth HR Workflows

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan R. | Senior Director of Talent and Culture, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

The platform is incredibly easy for anyone to be able to stand up in a day or two at most with little knowledge.

The pricing is super competitive for smaller teams and startup environments. Making it some of the best value in this space.

It has strong integration capability with many other platforms organizations might use like microsoft, g suite, training, and background checks.

Expense reimbursements, time off, performance reviews, and reporting are easy to work in and you can do periodic pulse surveying as well.

Best in class platform for the cost and size

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Not being able to integrate contractors into the expense reimbursement space is a small miss as it would make it easier as you are paying your employees to use a similar structure for contractors.

Getting a broker integrated into the platform can have some occasional headaches, but having benefits done manually is also easy.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has automated so many tasks under one platform that we used to use multiple solutions for in the past. The performance and service is generally on the upper end for the same or similar platforms and they continue to iterate improvements over the past several years.

  ### 42. Intuitive, All-in-One Portal That Makes Weekly Payroll a Breeze

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Katie T. | Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

It's UX is SO intuitive and easy. Easy to navigate all necessary information via one convenient online portal. Just very simple and intuitive is probably the number one thing I've loved about working in Gusto ALL of these years. I also appreciate that it integrates with other platforms, such as When I Work, which makes time tracking and payroll a breeze. I've not personally utilized the performance metric capabilities, but it's great that it's an option.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Transitioning between health insurance providers is clunky. Yes, Gusto handles the process, but there are frequently delays and occasionally missed premium calculations or withdrawals. Gusto also doesn't do a great job of ensuring accurate information is provided to remotely-distributed teams about what health plans cover which states. Also, Gusto is one of the more expensive platforms if you wrap up all the services in one. RIght now, it's cheaper for us to use a separate time tracking tool, because although Gusto has the capability to track time, for the number of employees we have, it's very expensive.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is solving paperwork, payroll, benefits, and tax filing. All of those solve BIG problems for us.

  ### 43. Gusto Is a One-Stop Shop for Payroll, Taxes, and HR Paperwork

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kevin O. | Practice Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 02, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

The design and interface are solid, easy to navigate, and include all the features I need. Gusto brings together so many payroll and administrative tasks in one piece of software that it feels close to a one-stop shop. The best part might be that it automatically handles required tax reporting, new-hire forms, and other company documentation. Integration with Guideline for 401k functions is also extremely convenient. Lastly, whenever I have needed to contact Gusto support, they have always been pretty good about finding solutions and following up in a timely manner.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Honestly, there is nothing I actually dislike about Gusto.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto helps me save time, which is arguably the most important thing that any software could do.

  ### 44. Intuitive Payroll Solution with Minor Tax Optimization Challenges

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 09, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I appreciate Gusto's intuitive and easy-to-use UI interface, which makes it simple to navigate and easy to understand everything. I like that I don't have to search very far for information. Additionally, reimbursements and other transactions go out quickly and are communicated clearly, with very little bureaucracy involved. It was easy to get started and easy to keep going.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I think the taxes section on the app could be improved. I put my tax numbers in the optimizer and it said I could change things, but then it didn't clearly direct me to what I should change to fix to make it happen? So I'm not entirely sure what the next step to optimize my tax refund is.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto to easily access my paychecks and sort through what taxes I have to pay as well as what percentage of my paycheck I'll be able to take home. It's easy to navigate, so I find information quickly. The setup seemed easy as an employee, reimbursements are fast, and communication is clear, reducing bureaucracy. The AI tax solution system was also really helpful to allow me to maximize my tax refunds.

  ### 45. One Platform That Keeps Everything Organized

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

What I Like About Gusto

Gusto has a clean, intuitive interface that’s easy to navigate, even for people without HR or payroll experience. Payroll feels straightforward and is largely automated, which makes payday much less stressful.

I also like the employee self-service portal, since employees can access pay stubs, tax documents, and their personal information without needing HR help. Onboarding is simple as well, with digital offer letters, e-signatures, and new-hire paperwork all handled in one place.

Time tracking and PTO management are integrated, so it’s easy to manage employee hours and time off. Benefits administration is built into the platform too, which helps payroll, health insurance, and other benefits work together smoothly.

Automatic tax calculations and filings help reduce errors and save a lot of time, and the reminders and notifications are genuinely helpful for staying on top of important deadlines. The reporting tools provide useful payroll and employee insights without requiring a complicated setup.

Finally, it integrates well with popular accounting, time-tracking, and other business software. Customer support is responsive, and the Help Center has clear, easy-to-follow resources. Overall, the platform feels modern and thoughtfully designed, with features that simplify running a small business rather than adding unnecessary complexity.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

What I Dislike About Gusto

Payroll corrections after a payroll run has been processed can feel more cumbersome than I expected. The reporting works well enough for most businesses, but it doesn’t offer some of the advanced customization you get with larger HR platforms. Certain HR and benefits features are locked behind higher-tier plans, which can become expensive as a company grows.

Integrations with some third-party software also occasionally require manual syncing or extra troubleshooting. There’s limited flexibility for businesses with highly complex payroll or compliance requirements, and customer support can sometimes have longer response times during peak payroll periods.

A few workflows require clicking through multiple screens instead of allowing quick edits from a single page, and overall the customization options for reports and workflows could be stronger. While the mobile experience is solid for employees, administrators have fewer management capabilities on mobile compared to the desktop version. As businesses scale, some organizations may eventually outgrow Gusto and need more advanced, enterprise-level HR features.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto addresses the challenge of managing payroll, HR, benefits, and employee onboarding by bringing everything together in one easy-to-use platform. Rather than juggling multiple systems or spending hours on administrative work, businesses can automate payroll, file taxes, manage benefits, and onboard new employees all in one place.

From my perspective as a user, this saves me time, lowers the chance of manual errors, and gives me confidence that key tasks are handled accurately and on schedule. I also value the intuitive interface and the employee self-service tools, which make it simple for employees to access pay stubs, tax forms, and personal details without needing help from HR.

Overall, Gusto takes a lot of the administrative burden out of managing people, so businesses can spend more time growing their teams and supporting their customers instead of getting bogged down in paperwork.

  ### 46. Automated Tax Filing and Compliance Wins, but Onboarding and Support Can Be Slow

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

The automated tax filing is the single biggest win for us. It used to take our bookkeeper almost two full days each quarter to calculate, file, and reconcile state and federal withholdings across our three office locations. Now it runs automatically in the background and just flags anything that needs a human eye — we've gone from 16 hours of quarterly tax work down to about 45 minutes of review.
The multi-state compliance engine has also saved us more than once. When we hired our first remote employee in a state we'd never operated in, the software automatically flagged the new registration requirements and walked us through setup. Without that, we probably wouldn't have realized we needed to register until we got a penalty notice.
I also lean on the custom approval workflows constantly. Instead of payroll changes (raises, bonuses, new hires) sitting in an email thread waiting for three different sign-offs, everything routes automatically to the right manager and I get a notification the moment it's approved. That alone probably saves me 3-4 hours a week that used to go into chasing people down.

We're on the mid-tier plan, which runs us a base fee plus a per-employee monthly cost — all told, it comes out to a little more than what we paid for our old system. But when I actually sat down and did the math, the ROI was obvious within the first quarter. Between the bookkeeper hours saved on tax filing (roughly $2,000/quarter in labor cost alone), the reduction in manual HR admin, and — this is the big one — avoiding even a single multi-state compliance penalty, it paid for itself almost immediately. We haven't had a late filing or compliance fee since switching, and previously that was costing us real money at least once a year.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I want to start by saying Gusto isn't a bad product — it's clearly well-built, and I can see why so many small businesses love it. But after a year and a half of using it, I've landed somewhere between "it's fine" and "I wish it did a few things differently," and I think that's worth being honest about.
The onboarding took longer than expected
Setup wasn't hard exactly, but it was slower than I'd hoped. We're a nonprofit with a mix of full-time staff, part-time hourly workers, and a couple of contractors, and getting all of those employment types configured correctly took several back-and-forth sessions with support. Nothing was broken, it just required more hand-holding than the marketing materials led me to expect. I'd budgeted about a week for migration; it ended up being closer to three.
Customer support is inconsistent
This is probably my biggest gripe, and I say it gently because I know support teams are hard to get right. Sometimes I get a rep who clearly knows the platform inside and out and solves my issue in ten minutes. Other times I've submitted a ticket about a tax notice we received and waited two or three days for a reply, which is stressful when the notice has a deadline attached. There doesn't seem to be a reliable way to know which experience I'll get.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Problem: Manual payroll tax calculation and filing
Before Gusto, our bookkeeper had to manually calculate, file, and reconcile federal and state withholdings every quarter. That process ate up nearly two full days each time and left room for costly errors. Gusto now automates this end-to-end, freeing up roughly 15 hours of skilled labor per quarter and removing the anxiety of missing a filing deadline.

Problem: Multi-state compliance complexity
As we’ve hired remote employees in different states, staying on top of each state’s registration and tax requirements became a real risk. Gusto proactively flags what we need to do when we hire in a new state, which has helped us avoid unknowingly falling out of compliance—something that previously could have led to penalties we didn’t see coming.

Problem: Slow, email-based approval chains
Payroll changes like raises or new hires used to get buried in scattered email threads while we waited on multiple sign-offs. Gusto’s approval workflows automatically route requests to the right person, cutting down the time I spend chasing approvals by several hours each week.

Problem: HR team fielding repetitive employee requests
We used to receive constant emails asking for pay stubs or help updating direct deposit and tax withholding information. With the self-service portal, employees can handle these tasks themselves, which has significantly reduced interruptions throughout our HR team’s day.

  ### 47. Efficient Payroll Tool with Room for Better Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert C. | Operations manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 25, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I love how Gusto consolidates everything by keeping all our documents in one place, making it easy for me and my employees to retrieve important documents like W-2s and pay stubs. The user interface is amazing and very easy to navigate through, which makes managing taxes and adjusting settings straightforward. I also appreciate how Gusto helps with payroll and tracks sick days and vacations automatically, taking over tasks that would otherwise require dedicated staff. It's also great that employees can have insight into their own paychecks and financial details through Gusto, with everything integrated seamlessly including a Gusto debit card and account funds management. This integration bridge makes it more in-depth and user-connected.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

The only thing I could say that could be improved was that we were trying to get the health insurance attached to Gusto, and we ran into problems with it. And, obviously, we have a time period where you have to apply for health insurance. So when we tried to contact support, it was the support that was kind of lacking where they, like, they were saying were gonna get back to us, and it was getting dragged out. It would have been nice that there would have been, like, a faster response. We ended up having to contact the health insurance outside of Gusto. And had to set it up this year independently because Gusto wasn't reacting enough, and we didn't wanna get, like, penalized for not having health insurance. So it was that was a little bit, an inconvenience.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto to manage payroll, track time off, and store documents like W-2s and pay stubs. It's great for keeping everything consolidated and easily accessible for me and my employees. The user interface is amazing, making navigation and personal adjustments simple.

  ### 48. Gusto Makes Payroll Quick, Painless, and Reliable

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 09, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I've been using Gusto for 5 years to run payroll for my bookkeeping business, and the user experience is genuinely one of the best I've come across in this space. It's intuitive and easy to navigate, so running payroll each cycle is quick and painless. Honestly, there's nothing about it I'd want to change.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Honestly, after 5 years of use it's hard for me to point to anything significant I dislike. If I had to nitpick, it would just be that occasional new features take a little time to get used to, but that's minor compared to how reliable and easy the platform is overall.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a bookkeeper, I use Gusto to run payroll for my business and to support clients who need reliable, accurate payroll processing. It handles tax filings and direct deposits smoothly, which saves me from having to manage those pieces manually, and gives me confidence that payroll is being run correctly every cycle.

  ### 49. Easy Setup, Great Tax Tools, and Smooth All-Day Performance

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 09, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I love the features, especially the tax tool, because it’s really helpful for organizing everything later when tax season comes around. I also appreciate how easy it is to navigate throughout the day when I’m calculating my hours. I also appreciate how I am able to incorpaorate the pay or expenses from other purchases here. I loved the premium account which I had for a short time. I've connect this with my everlance app which worked great to track mileage easier. The apps performance is great as I have always had time to access it without disconnecting. Setting up was easy and luckily very straightforward. The AI in the app is not something I know much about yet, but I am sure it would be great.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I do not like that I need to have a minimum of $500 for the premium as this is not my main bank account.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tax tools are extremely helpful

  ### 50. Feature-Rich HR Tool That Keeps Onboarding, Time Off, and Celebrations Organized

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Cosmetics | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 09, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like that it had capabilities other platforms I have used do not. I am able to have on and off boarding checklists to stay organized, manually adjust time off balances, and it even has an upcoming celebrations notification.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I dislike that admin and employee profiles can not be merged. I also feel like the chat box is rarely able to solve any issues that may be occurring but setting up a call with a support member is not always convenient especially if the issue is time sensitive.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is solving the problem of having two separate platforms for a 401k program and payroll program. Guideline being integrated into the Gusto platform is creating a smooth and seamless experience for our employees to take full advantage of the benefits offered to them. By also having flexible ways to create time off policies we are able to adjust and create a time off policy that works best for our team.
