"Best open-source tool for mapping out C++ logic for my hardware projects"

What do you like best about Graphviz?

As an engineering student, I build a lot of microcontroller projects using ESP8266 and NodeMCU (like a smart irrigation system and robotics). Graphviz is awesome because I can just write simple text using the DOT language, and it automatically generates complex flowcharts of my C++ logic. It helps me perfectly visualize the "state machines" of my sensors and local web servers before I actually upload the messy code to the board. Plus, being 100% free and open-source makes it perfect for my college assignments. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Graphviz?

It doesn't have a modern visual drag-and-drop interface like other diagramming tools. You have to type out the code to generate the graphs, which feels a bit old-school and takes a little bit of time to learn initially. Also, if your DOT script gets too long for a complex circuit logic, finding a missing bracket or syntax error can be slightly annoying. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Graphviz solving and how is that benefiting you?

When writing hundreds of lines of C++ code for my robotics projects, I often get confused about how different functions and loops interact with each other. Graphviz solves this by turning my text into a clear visual map.
