## About GeoHECHMS
GeoHECHMS speeds up watershed modeling by automating subbasin delineation, Curve Numbers, and Time of Concentration calculations. As an advanced data wrapper to industry-standard HEC-HMS, it simplifies workflows and accelerates common hydrologic preprocessing tasks needed for HEC-HMS modeling. Engineers use its AutoCAD-compatible interface to pull land use and soil data, compute TR 55/TR-20 parameters and simplify pre- and post-development scenarios for seamless detention/retention pond design. The software supports multiple rainfall distributions and routing methods, such as Muskingum, Kinematic Wave, Modified Puls, and Snyder Unit Hydrograph. Both US and metric (SI) units are supported, making GeoHECHMS a powerful solution for accurate watershed modeling and hydrologic analysis.

## GeoHECHMS Reviews
  ### 1. GeoHECHMS: An All-in-One Package for Watershed Hydrological Analysis

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** SAEED AHMADIAN S. | Project Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 04, 2026

**What do you like best about GeoHECHMS?**

The most important thing I’ve found while using GeoHECHMS is that it’s a complete package for a watershed modeler/analyzer, and it provides everything you need to carry out a hydrological analysis. To perform this kind of analysis, you typically need many types of data and information, such as land use, land cover, existing terrain data, and so on. GeoHECHMS brings these necessary inputs and data/information together in one place, which makes it much easier to work with.

**What do you dislike about GeoHECHMS?**

You need a reliable internet connection, because sometimes online DEM or other data aren’t available right when you need them to run a model.

**What problems is GeoHECHMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Whenever I need flow data for a hydraulic study and I can’t get it from an agency, I run this software to generate the information I need.

  ### 2. ArcGIS-Like Interface, Fast Automation, and Responsive Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jared H. | Manager of development engineering, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 29, 2026

**What do you like best about GeoHECHMS?**

I like how easily I can pull the data and how it is integrated with the arcgis type of interface. The automation really helps speed the process up and eliminate errors. For the cost of the software, it can usually be justified within 1 hydrology model. The support and onboarding was very responsive too as they are more than willing to walk you through an entire model using your data.

**What do you dislike about GeoHECHMS?**

Due to the amount of data, the system takes a long time to run larger models and tends to run into errors more often. At least there is the option to save the data if you encounter an error.

**What problems is GeoHECHMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

hechms helps us evaluate projects earlier on and determine the flood risk across an area. The intelligence of the software makes it more user friendly and quicker.

  ### 3. Streamlining Watershed Modeling with GeoHECHMS

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Seth M. | Civil Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 24, 2026

**What do you like best about GeoHECHMS?**

What I like best about GeoHECHMS is how seamlessly it integrates GIS data with hydrologic modeling. It takes what used to be a fragmented, manual process and turns it into a streamlined, intuitive workflow. Delineating watersheds, defining subbasins, and building models all feel connected and efficient instead of tedious.

I also really appreciate how much time it saves without sacrificing accuracy. The automation and built-in tools handle a lot of the heavy lifting, which allows me to focus more on engineering judgment and less on repetitive setup tasks.

Overall, it’s the combination of efficiency, clarity, and real-world practicality that stands out most—it genuinely makes complex hydrologic modeling easier and more reliable.

**What do you dislike about GeoHECHMS?**

One minor downside to GeoHECHMS is that, like most powerful modeling tools, there can be a bit of a learning curve when you’re first getting started—especially if you’re new to GIS-integrated workflows. Some of the more advanced features and settings take a little time to fully understand.

That said, once you get familiar with the interface and workflow, it becomes very efficient and intuitive, so the upfront effort pays off quickly.

**What problems is GeoHECHMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

GeoHECHMS is solving one of the biggest challenges in hydrologic modeling—bridging the gap between GIS data and a fully built, reliable model. Instead of spending hours manually delineating basins, transferring data, and double-checking inputs across multiple platforms, it brings everything into a single, cohesive workflow.

For me, that means significantly reducing the time and effort required to set up models while also minimizing the potential for errors. It handles a lot of the repetitive and detail-heavy tasks, which improves consistency across projects and gives me greater confidence in the results.

It’s also helping with efficiency under tight deadlines. I can move from raw terrain data to a functioning model much faster, iterate more easily when conditions change, and spend more time focusing on analysis and design rather than setup.

Overall, the benefit is a more streamlined process, better-quality deliverables, and the ability to take on more work without sacrificing accuracy or reliability.

**Official Response from Sara Presta:**

  ### 4. Software Integration/Technical Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eric H. | Engineer in Training, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 07, 2024

**What do you like best about GeoHECHMS?**

I have just recently started to use GeoHMS daily again since last year and havent noticed many updates or differences. Overall i love this software and we really pushed the higher ups to renew the license becasue it is so helpful. There are some smaller elements that i think could make the software even stronger and help user workflow.

**What do you dislike about GeoHECHMS?**

-A lock or read-only mode for supplied model elements would be helpful for regulatory workflows--especially when we only want to add or isolate certain features without changing the approved hydrology that is not impacted by the updates.

-Make calculation assumptions clearer and allow options. For example, when calculating TCs the hydraulic radius is assumed. However, some cities prefer velocities for channelized flow to be assumed. In the report feature include more detailed calculations so it is easier to implement in the submitted report. Or possibly allow an option to generate a well-structured TC and CN excel sheet that includes detailed calculations.

-For CN calcs include the basin name in the attribute table for the intermediate results shapefile. This way if we need to merge all of them together in GIS they still can be categorized by the basin

-Allow for several terrain layering for tcs etc. For example if we have multiple terrains and want one terrain read for part of the tc and a different one for a seperate portion.

-The report feature is very beneficial however i think AI could be implemented to help improve the context, structure, calculations, etc. This will help the user better incorporate the hydrology model and its parameters in their overall drainage report that is to be submitted.

-Allow better control of what component is being selected. Right now, if i have the HMS model on and add a cad file or other shapefiles i cannot select them while the hms model is on.

-In HEC-RAS there is a tool that allows the user to compare geometries and points out any differences. This would be beneficial in GeoHMS

-Before running the model if there are elements with no downstream connection add a pop up before running prompting the user to confirm before running. There have been times when working with large models that i have gone through several iterations and then find out that one junction is missing a connection.

**What problems is GeoHECHMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OvOverall, GeoHECHMS significantly reduces time and increases efficiency by eliminating the need to use multiple software programs. The software's unique capabilities streamline processes, leading to substantial cost savings. One example, GeoHECHMS simplifies river routing by automatically creating and assigning 8-point cross sections to your reaches. Previously, this would require creating these sections in GIS or Civil 3D, manually assigning the points, and then inputting them into HECHMS for each reach. GeoHECHMS automates this entire process, saving both time and effort.

**Official Response from Sara Presta:**

> Hi Eric,

**Reviewed by:** Bryce F. | Project Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 24, 2026

**What do you like best about GeoHECHMS?**

I appreciate how easy it is to use, and I like that the program’s functions are straightforward and simple to manipulate.

**What do you dislike about GeoHECHMS?**

Sometimes, when we run an analysis, the integration between GeoHECHMS and HECHMS doesn’t work smoothly because we run our programs on our office servers rather than on the local network. As a result, we occasionally have to fall back on using HECHMS alone for parts of the analysis instead.

**What problems is GeoHECHMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps us identify problem areas within our project, particularly with regard to the model, and it paints a clear picture of the results versus the standard HECHMS.

**Official Response from Sara Presta:**

  ### 9. Powerful Visualization and Reporting That Streamlines Modeling in GeoHECHMS

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jacob M. | Project Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 26, 2026

**What do you like best about GeoHECHMS?**

Like all CivilGeo products, GeoHECHMS is equipped with powerful visualization tools and settings that organize large amount of information and data. Overlaying high resolution images, topography and GIS information allow our team to delineate drainage basins, longest flow paths, assign landuse types and produce calculations all in one software. The ability to reference public data sets such as Web Soil Survey and NLCD landuse data reduce the amount of time spent outside of the software downloading and processing information. GeoHECHMS also offers powerful output and reporting options that have greatly streamlined our workflow and allow our team to spend more time refining our modeling.

**What do you dislike about GeoHECHMS?**

Some of the output options for intermediate calculations are buried within windows and can be difficult to find (such as impervious area when using NLCD data).

**What problems is GeoHECHMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

GeoHECHMS provides an integrated reporting and output option that we use for our hydrology reporting. It is well organized and easy to edit with additional information.

  ### 10. GeoHECHMS: Intuitive, Fast, and Easy for Hydrological Studies

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan O. | Assistant Project Manager in Water Resources, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 03, 2025

**What do you like best about GeoHECHMS?**

GeoHECHMS has taken our typical Hydrological Drainage Studies and amplified the speed with which we can complete them. The User Interface makes it quick and easy to work with and is extremely intuitive towards new employees learning the program. We are able to implement it quickly and easily into the majority of our work. My favorite part of the program is the ease of delineating large scale watershed subbasins that can be refined to smaller acreage if you are looking for a more detailed study of larger scale watersheds.

**What do you dislike about GeoHECHMS?**

There really is not much to dislike. If I would have one recommendation, it would be that they push updates quite often and it can be cumbersome when one employee working on a project is on a later version from the week before and has to update to work in the current version weekly.

**What problems is GeoHECHMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

GeoHECHMS is our primary modeling program when analyzing watersheds. Typically, we utilize the program to delineate subbasins and gather hydrological data that is necessary to implement into our hydraulic modeling, such as the results hydrographs the program gives us. We also use the program to run our dam breach analysis for dams that breach at level pool. The program makes it easy to organize the many different scenarios that are necessary for dam breach analysis.

**Official Response from Sara Presta:**
