## FileRun Reviews
 ### 1. Optimizes GDPR Compliance, Needs Better CI/CD Integration

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Heinrich W. | DevOps Koordinatorin & standortübergreifende Code-Bibliotheksverwalterin, Program Development, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 02, 2026

**What do you like best about FileRun?**

Being able to host the entire platform on our local German physical servers is its biggest advantage. All proprietary source code, pipeline configs and test data never leave EU territory, fully removing Schrems II and GDPR cross-border data risks. Tiered folder permissions let me segregate confidential core client code from shared test assets easily, blocking junior developers from sensitive modules without complicated identity setup. File version history reliably resolves conflicting edits between our Munich and Augsburg remote teams. The fully localized German interface cuts training friction entirely—our non-English-speaking engineers can navigate every menu without translated cheat sheets.

**What do you dislike about FileRun?**

There is no native webhook or plugin interface to connect our Git repositories and CI/CD pipelines directly. Every newly generated build script or config file has to be manually uploaded post-deployment, creating repetitive extra steps. Retention automation functions are very limited and cannot output audit logs formatted to meet German IT regulator standards; I have to restructure all access records in Excel every audit cycle. Bulk metadata labeling for archived project code folders does not exist, so I tag each directory individually. The platform sends no automated alerts for risky permission modifications, forcing me to run weekly manual user access audits to catch misconfigurations early. I hope the team adds pre-built German compliance report templates and official CI/CD integration plugins to eliminate redundant admin labor.

**What problems is FileRun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before implementation, our development assets were split across separate Windows network drives at two locations plus an overseas cloud service, triggering frequent file duplication and version mismatches, alongside serious GDPR compliance liabilities. FileRun centralizes all development data on our domestic on-prem hardware. Custom access policies stop unauthorized internal code exposure, version control clears cross-site edit conflicts, and native German language support speeds new engineer onboarding. Overall, it drastically reduces regulatory risk and streamlines cross-location file collaboration for our DevOps team.

 ### 2. Secure and Reliable but Needs Better Integration

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hueser B. | Senior Supply Chain & Quality Manager, Packaging and Containers, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 26, 2026

**What do you like best about FileRun?**

FileRun’s granular access controls and comprehensive file version tracking stand out tremendously for our operations. We can set role-based permissions to restrict access to sensitive quality paperwork and packaging assets, a key safeguard for LFGB and ISO compliance. Every revision to design drafts and regulatory documents is fully traceable, which streamlines formal audits significantly. The self-hosted architecture keeps all critical business and compliance data on-premises, aligning with our strict data security policies. Its clean layout also means team members across departments can navigate and use the platform with minimal training.

**What do you dislike about FileRun?**

The native reporting tools are too simplistic to produce custom audit logs required for ISO and LFGB regulatory checks. The mobile experience is laggy and missing core features, creating hassle when staff need to pull up files while working on-site. Moreover, it lacks seamless native connections to our quality management platform, forcing our team to perform repetitive manual file transfers between systems.

**What problems is FileRun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It replaced disjointed local folders and unstable shared network drives with a unified document repository. All packaging designs, supply chain records and compliance files are centralized, easy to locate and properly secured. Version control avoids costly mistakes on design files, while layered access protection secures confidential data. Overall, it cuts down administrative work and makes audit preparation far more efficient.

 ### 3. Clean, User-Friendly File Management with Flexible Storage Backends

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mayur K. | Technical Officer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 16, 2026

**What do you like best about FileRun?**

During my use of FileRun, there were many things I liked about it. First, it has a simple, clean interface and a user-friendly web experience that makes it easy to browse, preview, upload, and manage files. Second, it supports multiple storage backends and works with local storage, Amazon Web Services S3, Google Cloud Storage, FTP, and WebDAV.

**What do you dislike about FileRun?**

During my use of FileRun, a few things I disliked were that its performance depends heavily on the hosting environment; large files or many users can slow it down if the server is underpowered. Also, it requires server setup knowledge, so installation and ongoing maintenance may be challenging for non-technical users.

**What problems is FileRun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For me, the best thing FileRun does is solve the hassle of complicated file sharing. It makes it simple to generate secure links and share files or folders with other people. I also like that it offers flexible storage options, including local disks, NAS, S3-compatible storage, FTP, and WebDAV, so I can choose what fits my setup.

 ### 4. Effective Centralization and Improved Collaboration

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kabirou S. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 08, 2026

**What do you like best about FileRun?**

I like using FileRun for its efficiency in storing, organizing, and sharing the office work, which facilitates team management and collaboration. FileRun especially helps us centralize all our documents, thus avoiding file dispersion and allowing quick access to the information we need daily. Centralization allows each team member to quickly find the right documents without searching everywhere, and file sharing is also healthier, which reduces errors and facilitates teamwork. Moreover, the installation went quite smoothly with a quick setup thanks to clear documentation, and we did not encounter any major difficulties.

**What do you dislike about FileRun?**

The fluidity with very large files could be improved and add more advanced features for collaboration, such as better tracking of changes and more detailed permissions.

**What problems is FileRun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use FileRun to centralize our documents, avoiding file dispersion. It helps our team quickly find the right documents, facilitates sharing and collaborative work, and reduces errors. It simplifies management and improves collaboration.

 ### 5. Effective Document Management with Room for Growth

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 15, 2026

**What do you like best about FileRun?**

As an Education Project Coordinator at our German education and training organization, there are several standout features of FileRun that I value greatly in our daily work, and the overall experience has been very reliable for our multi-center team. What I appreciate most is its flexible and detailed access permission system, which perfectly fits Germany’s strict GDPR requirements. We manage a large volume of sensitive files including employee contracts, payroll data, and personal staff information, alongside public teaching resources and project plans. FileRun lets us set customized rights for individual users or teams: we can assign view-only access to instructors for course materials, grant edit permissions to project team members for event documents, and lock confidential HR folders so only dedicated HR staff can open or modify them. This layered control keeps private data safe without hindering regular work, and we never need to worry about unauthorized data exposure. I also really like its automatic file version tracking. Many of our education projects and activity plans go through multiple rounds of revisions by colleagues from different training centers. Every time someone updates a lesson plan, event agenda, or HR form, FileRun saves a new version automatically. If we accidentally overwrite content or need to refer back to an earlier draft, we can easily browse the revision history and restore previous files. This feature saves us from the mess of countless manually renamed draft files and makes collaborative editing much smoother. Another major advantage is its intuitive folder structure and powerful search function. We create a clear hierarchical folder system sorted by project name, department, and time period. Even with thousands of archived files spanning years of training programs and monthly HR records, the built-in search allows us to locate target documents instantly by keywords, file names, or tags. For example, when preparing annual compliance reviews, I can quickly pull up past payroll reports and project archives within seconds, instead of rummaging through piles of local folders. In addition, FileRun is lightweight and easy to learn for all team members. Many of our part-time instructors and frontline staff do not have advanced tech skills, yet they can quickly master basic operations like downloading files, uploading materials, and accessing shared folders without formal training. The clean interface avoids complicated redundant functions, so everyone can focus on their core work rather than figuring out the tool itself. Lastly, its stable cross-device performance deserves praise. Our staff access files from office desktops, laptops, and mobile devices while working across different training sites. FileRun runs steadily on all common devices, and file uploads or downloads rarely get interrupted. It keeps our remote and cross-branch collaboration running smoothly all year round. First, its file sharing link settings are incredibly practical. When we need to send teaching materials, event notices, or non-confidential forms to external guest trainers or participants, we can generate temporary shareable links. We are able to set expiration dates and limit access to view-only mode, so links won’t stay active indefinitely. For example, for a short-term vocational workshop, I create a link valid for just two weeks to share training handouts. This avoids permanent public exposure and aligns fully with GDPR rules. Second, the bulk upload and batch management tools save us a great deal of time. We often need to upload dozens of lesson slides, student worksheets, or monthly HR forms at once. FileRun supports selecting multiple files or entire folders for one-click upload, instead of adding them one by one. We can also rename, move, or tag a group of files in batches, which streamlines our regular file sorting and archiving work.

**What do you dislike about FileRun?**

To start with, the integrated reporting feature is quite basic. We often need to generate statistics for internal reviews, such as how many files were uploaded for each training project, or which folders are most frequently accessed by staff and instructors. Right now, FileRun only provides simple file count data. It cannot create customized reports or visual charts, so we have to manually export raw data and compile reports in spreadsheets afterwards, which adds extra repetitive work. Secondly, it lacks native integration with our other daily tools. We use HR management systems and survey platforms alongside FileRun. There is no direct connection between them, meaning we have to manually download files from FileRun and re-upload them to other systems every time. For example, when we share staff evaluation forms collected via survey tools to the HR team, we need to move files back and forth manually. A seamless integration would greatly streamline our overall workflow.

**What problems is FileRun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

FileRun centralizes our files, ensuring up-to-date access across centers and resolving data security issues with GDPR compliance. It simplifies version control, reduces manual work by streamlining file delivery, and enhances collaboration efficiency.

 ### 6. Highly Secure, Self-Hosted File Management

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Baney K. | Digital Operations & GDPR Compliance Manager, Chemicals, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 30, 2026

**What do you like best about FileRun?**

I really value FileRun's self-hosted architecture and granular security controls for providing data control without compromise. This is a non-negotiable core benefit for us, offering the assurance that our critical business and customer data stays on our own servers, eliminating risks of data breaches, compliance violations, or sudden changes in access. One of my favorite features is the blazing-fast full-text search, which efficiently indexes everything, even attached or embedded content. It is a key tool for us in organizing our files. Also, the initial setup was so simple, which made the transition easy for our team.

**What do you dislike about FileRun?**

I don't like the lack of real-time co-editing. Unlike Google Docs/Sheets, FileRun only supports sequential file editing. If two team members open the same Word/PDF/Excel file, one gets a 'read-only' version, and changes have to be saved/merged manually. For our marketing team building campaign briefs, this means slow, disjointed collaboration (no live brainstorming) and occasional version conflicts.

**What problems is FileRun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

FileRun solves our siloed file storage issues, ensures secure external sharing, and lets us control our business data without compromise. It addresses version chaos and compliance risks while centralizing all our business files in one self-managed hub.

 ### 7. Secure Self-Hosted File Sharing with Flexible Storage and Custom Branding

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** shilpa g. | I work as a functional as well as automation tester, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 27, 2026

**What do you like best about FileRun?**

You can host your own files on your server, so you control all data, security and privacy. It doesn't force to copy files to a proprietary system, one can point fileRun to where the files already live like local drives. It allows drag and drop uploads, Resume interrupted uploads, share large files. It allows personalizing the interface with your own logo, color and text which is useful for business. Works well with desktop sync client and can connect to mobile clients using standard protocols.

**What do you dislike about FileRun?**

It has certain limitations as well, it's not fully free for new users. There aren't any dedicated android/iOS apps yet. Compared to cloud ecosystem like google workspace or Microsoft 365 fileRun has fewer built-in business app integrations.

**What problems is FileRun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

People often store files on laptops, on phones, on external drives or SB or multiple cloud accounts, this makes it hard to find, share or sync files reliably. FileRun solves this by letting you create one central storage location. Using public cloud services means you don't own your data, if you use services lile google drive, onedrive, dropbox your files are stored on someone else's servers. storage limit may apply. Need to pay recurring fees for extra storage, with FileRun you own your data completely, privacy is controlled by you, no monthly fees for storage limits.

 ### 8. Self-Hosted Solution That Balances Performance with Control

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Selemani A.

**Reviewed Date:** December 19, 2025

**What do you like best about FileRun?**

I appreciate FileRun's ability to manage files through a web browser, desktop clients, or mobile apps, supporting standard operations like upload, download, move, copy, and search. I also like how I can share files securely, either internally with other users on my FileRun instance or externally via password-protected web links. The self-hosted nature of FileRun allows me to keep all my data on my own server, avoiding third-party cloud providers, which I find essential for privacy, security, and control. I like that it supports custom authentication through integration with existing systems like LDAP, Active Directory, or WordPress for user management. FileRun's optimized performance is great since it's lightweight and fast, allowing it to run on modest hardware like a Raspberry Pi or an old home server. I love that there's no need to migrate, as FileRun works directly with my existing file structure, saving me time and hassle. I enjoy the media management features, such as the built-in image gallery and video player, which provide browsing, playback, and basic management of photos, music, and videos without needing to download them. The immediate performance gains from switching to FileRun, compared to other services, are noticeable and appreciated.

**What do you dislike about FileRun?**

The main drawbacks of FileRun relate to its licensing model, support structure, specific technical setup requirements, and potential resource use during heavy file operations. Its licensing provides professional support but comes with certain restrictions. The technical setup can be challenging, especially since FileRun requires the ionCube Loader extension, which needs to be manually installed and isn't part of standard PHP setups. This manual installation process is tricky for beginners. During heavy file operations, the lack of client-side resource throttling and smart queuing can cause server resource spikes.

**What problems is FileRun solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use FileRun for centralized file management and sharing, ensuring privacy by keeping data on my server. It's optimized for modest hardware, lowering costs and making professional-grade management accessible.
