Expensify systems duplicate the expenses with no reason, and customer service doesn't provide a response as to why???

One time, we had a disconnection between Expensify and QuickBooks Online, and they  fixed it

It was confusing trying to navigate the website when they had the old and new portals. Made it difficult to use, especially as a new user.

They had very helpful customer service to help me resolve my issues with being new.

**What do you like best about Expensify?**

Update 3/5/25
I reached out to Daniel regarding our membership and he was very polite and explained that they do their best to be as transparent as possible with their pricing structure. He was able to change our membership to monthly so that we could remove our company from the platform. The process was very easy and Daniel was great to work with. Although, we never wanted it to get to this point for the company to take action. 


We are a small business that wanted to use Expensify to see and organize out expenses. The setup process was virtually non-existent for someone inexperienced with previous expense reporting software. Their “concierge” was pointless and the “free days” they provide you during setup are only to lay the ground work to completely screw you in the future. I had to fill out and contact our business banker just for them to contact someone completely different. Waste of time during setup. Then, in order to use their service, everyone had to have a seat. I chose the pay by month option so that we could cancel when needed but guess what, they have a 1 year contract so now we have to pay $211/month for a service that we are not using AT ALL! Unbelievable that they would trap companies in this type of predatory subscription. Never again, and I would recommend ALL COMPANIES TO USE RAMP! Ramp is FREE and their user interface and back office software is 10,000x better.

**What do you dislike about Expensify?**

Pricing structure, requests to cancel or for any help have been completely ignored. Customer service was sub par and the company is ridiculous. Never again will we do business with expensify ever.

**What problems is Expensify solving and how is that benefiting you?**

No benefit. Only a hurt to our business. Worst business decision we have made in 5 years.

> Hey there, I am sorry to hear about your experience. Our intention is not to have anything be too confusing, and definitely not predatory. But I'm sorry you had a bad experience. A couple of points:
- Everyone should get a free trial - before that there is no need to put down a billing card. 
- When setting up billing, we ask customers to choose between annual billing or pay-per-use and give a 50% discount on the per-user price for choosing an annual subscription. But we try to make that as clear as possible when setting up. I'll forward this feedback along to our team. 
- We have a free version of Expensify as well. It does not have all the functionality of our paid plans, but it is an option. 
- Please email me at daniel@expensify.com and I'll see what I can do about canceling your payments. Again, our intention is not to have confusing or predatory pricing. Just a fair approach to also providing a big discount.

**What do you dislike about Expensify?**

You need to pay to not have reports automatically produce and close each week. Also, after an update to the app, it is much harder to find things, especially if you are dealing in multi-currency and need two versions of expense account.

**What problems is Expensify solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's much easier to simply take a photo of a receipt through Expensify and then not worry about collecting receipts and sorting them later.

Expensify is extremely user friendly because the interface and tabs are simple and effective. Overall, expensify is really easy to understand and get the hang of

At least once a month the credit card on my account disconnects. This has been a big issue because I have to reconnect the card and double check that all expenses transferred from my credit card statement

**What problems is Expensify solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Expensify allows us to send expense reports to our clients and gets money back in our employees pockets that they have spent at our clients locations. It also allows us to track our business expenses

**What do you like best about Expensify?**

The expense report process is actually really good.  No gripes there.  The product suite surrounding it seems cool but doesn't work for Canadian companies so I'm over paying for features I can't use.

**What do you dislike about Expensify?**

As I said in the title,  the CEO uses the platform to push personal messaging which is really irritating. The product suite doesn't work well in Canada.

Expense report submission and authorizing. Good ui and employee experience there.

**What do you like best about Expensify?**

It works as a reimbursement app. The basic functionalities are there, and they do at least the bare minimum; however, other competitors out there do the basic functionalities but with better features and efficiencies.

**What do you dislike about Expensify?**

Reimbursement is a lot slower. Process time takes longer. Besides the basic functionalities, no other pluses. Can't book flights directly from the platform. Navan, for example, lets employees book flights directly on the platform using the company's card. The user interface is friendlier too. Reimbursement can sometimes be immediate, sending money directly to the bank account while Expensify sends reimbursement info to the company, which reimburses on pay days.

It allows me to submit reimbursement information that my company uses to process and reimburse me.

Smaller reimbursements are processed in 1-2 days, while larger reimbursements follow the standard ACH reimbursement schedule of 3-5 days. We do send the money directly from the company withdrawal account to the individual employees bank account so there is no waiting until pay day with Expensify. Navigating the Expensify app was not really an intuitive experience.

Expensify helped our team to go 'paperless' with expense reports, which worked to help us save time. The ability to file reports from a mobile device was also helpful.

Expensify can help with employees capturing receipts and categorize transactions for the business, cutting down on bookkeeping time and increasing accountability.

**What do you dislike about Expensify?**

Expensify is behind other services such as Divvy. Expensify customer service is not great, the cost isn't huge but it does add up, and the credit card rewards aren't much to be excited about. Expensify Cards are an improvement because every transaction will be recorded to check on receipt uploads and categorization. We have had a hard time with employees being certain that they uploaded receipts for Expensify for outside credit cards, but there's no way to confirm.

**What problems is Expensify solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Expensify is a decent option for recording receipts, categorizing transactions, and giving visibility to expenses company-wide. This saves a ton of time for the accounting team!

Worked well to allow employees to request reimbursement for expenses they incurred on their personal cards.

**What do you dislike about Expensify?**

Was frustrating for me as a manager to chase receipts from employees and team members. Was not obvious how to delegate more responsibility to team members, and more control to their managers. Ultimately we went with a more modern system and so far it's been a time saver.

Was helpful for reimbursing employees, was frustrating for managing spend on company cards. Note: we did not use the physical Expensify cards, so I can't comment on that feature.

Expensify was user friendly and displayed expenses in a easy manner. It was easy to navigate between jobs/reports etc. Expensify is a fierce competitor amongst others.

**What do you dislike about Expensify?**

While somewhat user friendly, it was hard to keep it organized. It was a bit tricky to find old expenses and what was paid vs approved etc. Keeping things at a basic level will likely make it easier to use. There are some features available only on the web vs app. Which makes it tougher

Navigate through the web based portion as well as the app.

  ### 17. Unsecure and complicated

Ability to do ACH reimbursements and pay bills, lots of different reporting tools, chat support feature.

**What do you dislike about Expensify?**

Pitiful fraud protection. We had fraud on our Expensify card; Expensify admitted it was fraud, but would do nothing about it. There is no option to speak with a manager. While the chat is convenient, frequently, it seems that the person is asking me questions without reading my replies. It isn't easy to reconcile with Quickbooks based on how the transactions post.

Ultimately, we discontinued using Expensify for everything other than ACH reimbursements. We are currently able to reimburse our employees through Expensify in a timely manner, which I appreciate.

**What do you like best about Expensify?**

Expensify is a very good expense manager, it has a multifunctional use, since you can send invoices and from the same platform you can also pay those invoices and I must highlight that from expensify you can even book trips. 

The best thing is that the scanning of invoices is unlimited, it does not have any type of restriction or additional cost and I really appreciate that.

**What do you dislike about Expensify?**

Honestly I have been using the platform for a couple of years, but since a few months ago I have been completely disappointed. First of all the cost seems very confusing to me, because I stopped having the option to purchase an individual account as usual and now it turns out that I was assigned to a group account and the costs increased absurdly. However to solve this type of problems the technical support service has been extremely negligent and at the moment I have a super high charge on my credit card. 

Another thing I don't like about the platform is that supposedly the commission for using the expensify card is low, but it is not true, the commissions go up to 50%, that's why I stopped using it a long time ago and it worked fine until this policy change. 

Finally future users should know that the platform does not have a very intuitive system, at the beginning it is complicated and the worst thing is that there is no tutorial to help you with that. 

I really used the platform because it worked moderately well and above all because it had a good price, but now I will definitely switch to another platform that provides better service.

It helped me in my economic organization, it is cheap and easy to use, recommended for beginners.

At the time it helped me to keep my expenses under control, to pay and organize my bills from one place.

The integrations that expensify offers are pretty sweet. Other than that, I found the product to be rather confusing to operate.

**What do you dislike about Expensify?**

The user experience could be improved by simply making it easier to operate. It's not as intuitive as other similar platforms.

Expense reporting was the primary use. Being able to take a picture of my receipt and quickly upload it to Expensify was really nice.

I like that eventually I get reimbursed for expenses. 

**What do you dislike about Expensify?**

I only use it for one-off expensing. But very little is explained. The difference between a report and an expense has never been clear to me. Finding the buttons to submit an expense has always been a crapshoot. I just click around until it seems like it worked.

**Recommendations to others considering Expensify:**

If you have the time, I guess go through any of their training material. I have never devoted time to it, as I just want to expense something and then move on. 

**What problems is Expensify solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I ask for my expenses to be reimbursed only once a month or so. Expensify works in that I do get reimbursed, but the experience getting there isn't pleasant.

You are able to access it via native mobile app so you get push notifications of changes. 

**What do you dislike about Expensify?**

It's not very effective with mobile.  Not much would would correctly.  UI is a little confusing.

It's mobile, so if you need something mobile, it works. But functionality isn't perfect.

uploading expenses on the go.  helpful when it works properly, specifically receipt scanning functionality.

This program helped to log my teams business drives in prep for tax season and relevant deductions. I appreciated that the app allows me to track milage, including the appropriate amount allowed for tax write offs, along with allowing me to input business expense receipts, and have it stored all in one place. 

**What do you dislike about Expensify?**

One of the cons to using this program is that it wasn't as comprehensive in terms of other features I desired.  At times, the receipt scanning feature can take long to process the receipts, and some receipts that are worn/difficult to read may require manual entry. 

**Recommendations to others considering Expensify:**

Expensify is great for managing business expenses and trips for milage deductions during tax season. 

**What problems is Expensify solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The business problems I am = solving with Expensify include business expenses reports and milage tracking. The greatest benefit to using this program is the app it offers on the iphone which allows me to track business expenses on the go.

I love that you are able to look over all your expenses at the push of a button and you don't have to worry about having booklets and booklets to pile through.

It would be nice if they had better system for currency exchanges for when we travel abroad.

It's easy to use and free for the most part! I love the app feature, makes it super easy to use.

I'd explore other options in addition to this product based on the annoyance of having to create an expense and submit reports separately. It does what it's supposed to do but I'm sure there are more user friendly options on the market for somebody looking for a standard way to track expenses on a corporate/enterprise level.

I appreciated being able to quickly create budget spreadsheets and reports for our monthly spending. 

**What do you dislike about Expensify?**

The system tended to crash, there were a lot of extraneous steps involved to set our team up on it, and it was challenging to zero out an expense if someone made an error.

Expensify was used to pay our team and reimburse them. I didn’t find it extremely beneficial overall.

**What do you like best about Expensify?**

Initially, I really liked the UI and the ability to drag and drop receipts and organize things. I can code it to a GL account, and it provides our cardholders with the ability to really tell us what a transaction is for. It beats the excel spreadsheet method we had been using.

**What do you dislike about Expensify?**

I'm writing this now, after having used it for nearly two years, because Expensify has gone so far downhill that I'm looking for something else. They routinely mess things up, in what they say are attempts to make the software better. There are several minor things they could add that they won't do -- such as, if I change the name of a category or try to rectify a typo, it'd be great if it didn't make ALL previously submitted reports have invalid categories. So, don't make typo's. If the link between your bank and Expensify breaks, good effing luck fixing it, their fix button doesn't do a thing. Drop down menu's are terrible and not intuitive, toggles go on and off with every patch, making things difficult. And you usually don't know why things are going on, because you *know* you turned scheduled submit off but suddenly it's on again, until after the fact. Add on to this that the pricing keeps going up. And for what? Are they using the Time Warner Cable business model of how to really stick it to your customers?

Much of what they say they can do doesn't work as well as they claim. And they offer zero customer phone support. You end up talking to a bot a lot. Good luck.

Provide less options for ways to start an expense report. One point of entry and a clear user flow. Multiple UX experiences to access, edit, or submit can be confusing. UX update and additional bulk actions (tying all expenses to a favorite accounting code, or making all expenses a specific receipt type) would benefit the experice.

**What do you like best about Expensify?**

They give you a very good trial period, so you have plenty of time to figure out if this app is for you or not. You have to complete several steps, and after each step you earn more days on your trial. Mine ended up being over 30days. 

**What do you dislike about Expensify?**

The application is not very user friendly. If you are new to electronic receipt and expense tracking this may not be the best place to start (especially if you are syncing with software like QuickBooks). They only have limited information/training online. And help is only available via email. I’m sure this is one of their ways to keep costs low, but it is very unhelpful to the consumer. I sent an easy (I thought) question to them and 3 days later I received a 1 line response.... asking me a question about my account that had nothing to do with the original concern.

Electronic receipt tracking and expense reimbursements. Not many benefits that I’ve been able to find. Other apps do the same thing, only better.

Having to download each individual expense report takes too long.  Should be able to download in batches.

Look into other T&E programs some are easier to use as far as backing up or downloading files.  This is cumbersome if you change or cancel and need to save digital copies.  Take a long time to download.
Pricing was very good.

**What do you like best about Expensify?**

-The mobile app makes it easy to keep track of your receipts while on the go.  You can then create a report when back at a computer as the mobile app syncs to the website seamlessly.
-I also like the seamless integration to my bank so the reimbursement is directly deposited. 

**What do you dislike about Expensify?**

-The interface is somewhat confusing.
-Attaching a receipt can be a hassle if you don't do it correctly the first time.  
-I have had issues where the credit card isn't synching properly and thus I cant log all of my expenses - this has happened multiple times and the resolution is "this should be fixed in a few days".

Update: my CC issue has not been resolved - it has been over 3 months of this.  I bank at a major institution and they cant pull in my transactions, very silly.  Their solution is for me to import my expenses via CSV.  This works just fine but its wild that I have to do this with their platform.  Very disappointing.

Makes expensing things very easy and is worth it if you have a lot of business charges.

I am able to log all expenses without having to carry a company credit card.  This makes things very easy and gives me the ability to be reimbursed quickly.

Currency exchange for users, multi-level approval process, internal remibursement

Slow and unhelpful support, frequent issues with platform loading/technical issues, very very slow when processing internal reimbursements,  too easy for new users to setup an account outside of company invite, too many issues and frequent difficulties in setting up new acccounts>need to add SVB as common bank option.

**Recommendations to others considering Expensify:**

This software seems outdated and has very little reporting functionality.  The setup process is arduous and the support team is slow to respond and doesn't seem very experienced at times.

Automating expense reporting and reimbursement with specific chart of accounts.   Employees do get paid faster when using the internal reimbursement feature

**What do you like best about Expensify?**

Expensify is reasonably priced, which is why we initially signed up -- until we discovered that the multi-level approval only comes at the higher ticket price. 
I like their mobile app integration and overall simple UI and experience. We were excited to have it integrate with our T-sheets time sheets as well, but discovered that the integration simply shows an icon in the t-sheets app and takes them to a separate app.

**What do you dislike about Expensify?**

The customer service!!! I've never been so frustrated. I think they are still figuring things out in that department because they never seemed to have anyone available. If you needed help instantly, you had to submit an email or online chat request which usually took 1-2 hours for a response. We were late for our implementation call and they didn't even want to schedule an additional call to help us, they just tried to send us articles to read and figure it out.

Expense reporting for all employees, both internal and remote. 
Great mobile capabilities.

That the process/path of reports is broken. Creating reports is kludgey and it's hard to build them without an autogenerated name. The website does not have a stellar uptime record.

Expense reports. The visibility in this product is great, when the website is working. The payout schedule and estimated time that it hits a users' bank account is cool. The auto receipt reader is also neat, but slow.

Its interface, its easy to use features  - basically I loved everything until it stopped working and showing up with duplicate charges. 

**What do you dislike about Expensify?**

Since October 2014 - I've had a SERIOUS issues with connecting our company credit cards. EVERYTHING shows up as double. I've tried reaching out several times to their customer/technical support and they've offered no solutions what so ever. They blame a bug that only happens with certain cc providers - but we use one of the most major companies so it seems ludicrous that nearly 6 months has gone by and they've still done nothing rectify the problem. I was a HUGE champion of Expensify and what the service provides up until the last 6 months. It's really sad because they're awesome when the program actually works.

Make sure they up their customer service/ technical support game. Fix the bufs.
