I used this software the first time while I was undertaking my undergraduate research project where I mapped out the water network infrastructure for analysis. I love that this software is expertly created with built-in features and tools that bring an engineers vision to life. The software is capable of handling the creation of the simplest to the most complex network and bring together a wide array of data set.It also manages massive amounts of data in its built-in database and the user can access the data very easily which is a huge plus. ArcGIS does not, from my personal experience, integrate very well with other design software compared to other gis software like quantum gis. Transferring or moving maps, networks and designs to other software like EPANET to analyse them further hydraulically can prove problematic especially to a user with little arcgis experience. ArcGIS has been instrumental in the planning of new projects and the analysis of existing projects. it has helped in the management of water networks it is important to note that the GIS data can be accessed by many employees and can function to only allow improvement and also that it can be accessed for generations to come.
