"Eddie gets me to the part where I get to tell the story"

What do you like best about Eddie?

I've been editing since 2003 and I reach for the newest tool every time the craft shifts. Eddie handles the work I used to dread on a big interview project, the transcribing, the tagging, the pulling of selects. I fed it fifteen interviews, shaped a string-out from what came back, and prompted my way down to a rough cut before handing off to Resolve and Final Cut for finishing. The value isn't Eddie making the cut, it's Eddie getting me to the cut. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Eddie?

I pushed it hard enough to hit its ceilings. I ran into a timeline length cap and an XML export bug that cost me a weekend and a hand-rebuilt cut. To their credit there were updates almost every night, but if you're throwing a genuinely massive project at it, expect to find some rough edges. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Eddie solving and how is that benefiting you?

I cut a 90-hour, 40-year union documentary down to a 45-minute film as a one-person studio on an indie budget. On a studio budget that footage goes to a room of junior editors before the lead sees a frame. On an indie budget it's just me, at night. Eddie did the first pass so I could spend my hours on the part only the director can do, and the film went out on schedule and got picked up for distribution.
