Ran another store previously so I went in already knowing what I was comparing against. The biggest difference is where you start - other platforms hands you the tools and you build everything from zero, sourcing products, setting up payments, designing the store. The trade-off for that speed is real too. Shared catalog instead of your own product sourcing, and customization is noticeably more limited than what Shopify allows.
