What do you like best about Dropbox?

I love the ability to install dropbox so I can access it quickly from the menu of my mac (up by the WiFi indicator). I love also how I can see what others are doing, when files were updated, and can collaborate in real-time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dropbox?

I wish there were clear paths to files. I guess it's a deliberate 'feature' that you can name your shared folders anything you want. This means, unlike a server, you can't send someone a link to a folder using a path. So if a colleague sends me a link, I can access the folder but have to download the assets, vs. knowing where to click to myself.

I also think "online only" should be the default sync option. If you don't select it, Dropbox needs you to have the space on your computer to sync files, even though they are in the cloud. Doesn't make sense. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Dropbox:

I think Dropbox is a great option for people who collaborate asynchronously. I'd just advise people to set their backups to online-only so they don't use up hard drive space syncing files.

I'd also warn people: when your mac looks for ways to "free up" hard disk space, it may scrape your dropbox for files to delete, which includes shared files that you didn't originate.

But, you can restore deleted files if you catch the error within 30 days. Which is nice. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Dropbox solving and how is that benefiting you?

I collaborate with internal teams globally. We edit docs in real time. We see version control. And we store our files in the cloud vs. on servers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
