What do you dislike about Datto SaaS Protection?

While Datto SaaS Protection (Backupify) delivers robust data resiliency for cloud environments like Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, operational and technical limitations still hinder daily administrative workflows.

First, Granular Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) remains overly restrictive. Permissions are largely all-or-nothing, meaning junior helpdesk technicians often receive full visibility across an entire organization’s data footprint. The platform lacks micro-permissions to restrict access to sensitive HR, financial, or C-suite accounts, creating privacy concerns and limiting effective task delegation within IT teams.

Second, Backup Scheduling Flexibility is surprisingly rigid. Backupify executes automated snapshots on a fixed cycle—typically three times daily at eight-hour intervals. System administrators cannot customize backup schedules, set high-frequency backup windows for mission-critical accounts, or pause operations during heavy bandwidth utilization.

Third, Microsoft Teams Chat Limitations present a major compliance blind spot. While public channel conversations, file attachments, and structural metadata are fully protected, private 1-on-1 and group direct messages are omitted due to API restrictions and cost hurdles imposed by Microsoft. Organizations relying on chat histories for legal discovery must look elsewhere.

Fourth, PSA & Billing Synchronization for Managed Service Providers (MSPs) often introduces administrative friction. Newly discovered seats added through auto-provisioning rules do not always sync fluidly with PSA platforms like Autotask or ConnectWise. This forces manual reconciliation to ensure every protected seat is accurately billed to the client.

Finally, eDiscovery Speed and Search Depth lag behind dedicated archiving platforms. Queries across multi-year historical archives or massive tenant directories can experience latency, and the tool lacks advanced Boolean operators, proximity searches, and legal-hold tags essential for complex litigation or regulatory requests.

Addressing these core areas—access control, custom scheduling, chat coverage, billing integration, and search performance—would dramatically improve Backupify’s flexibility for modern IT infrastructure Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
