Y. | Visual Artist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** March 06, 2025 **What do you like best about Dacast?** It's affordable (unless you know when your next renew date is.) **What do you dislike about Dacast?** Be aware if you consider purchasing the annual plan. Technically, you have to mark your renewal date next year on your calendar yourself because your plan will automatically get renewed and charged unnoticed. (No reminder or consent) When you receive a bill? it's too late: there is no way for you to get a refund because it's their "new policy" even if you contact them the day of the billing. They should either send their customers a consent/notification before the auto renew at least once, or let the user cancel and get a refund, especially when they didn't use the plan yet. I feel like i've been scammed. **What problems is Dacast solving and how is that benefiting you?** I purchased it for my solo art project streaming 4 live-feed videos for 24 hour a month. Even though my project was conceptually worked, the physical work itself didn't work properly because one or two of the videos always freezed every other day. And their new policy? They have your credit card as a hostage. ### 2. Slow response, non-technical & unprofessional. We experienced a technical issue on Dacast's player (video not looping). We even created a demo page for their team to investigate. Three weeks later, still no solution to the issue & no timeframe for when they will resolve the issue. I asked for an update, and customer service told me to be patient. Completely hopeless. Customer service downloaded our video and re-uploaded a testing video to our account without notification or communication. That makes me unsure about the data security on Dacast, as their staff can access the content on our account without agreement. Also, Dacast's UX is immature, in my option. the control portal is not user-friendly compared to competitors like Vimeo. The video player still has a play icon popped up even after setting the player to be no play button in the theme. Overall, we are very disappointed with Dacast. **What problems is Dacast solving and how is that benefiting you?** We wanted a video streaming service that is accessible from China. Dacast did work from that aspect. However, because of the technical problem with their player, we have removed Dacast from service completely. ### 3. And when we needed help, the customer service was like the best. Also was able to try this into one steaming service to other social media sites. We were able to input the steams into our website and also steam them to all the mobile devices that were watching the link that we send out for the live stream. **What do you dislike about Dacast?** So far, we have not been able to find anything that we dislike about the Dacast. **What problems is Dacast solving and how is that benefiting you?** In the past, we used to have these large projects on the Shake Table and were not able to take Cameras and live steam them without having choking issues on the live steam. But with this service, we take our Wirecast system and use them for the back-in for live steam. And it is easy too. ### 4. In talking to these people, you can tell they really care. That is missing in 90% of the streamers I have used. **What do you dislike about Dacast?** I used this service for some time and had great results. The problem I had was that they do not do encoding. That means that if you want multiple biot rates for smartphones, slow connections, and big screen TVF's, you have to send it in the original stream. This caused a lessening of the quality and also caused problems as I had difficulty getting the larger stream to them without buffering. **What problems is Dacast solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am not using them at this time. I called yesterday to see if they had changed, but they had not. ### 5. I believe that the platform (without using APIs) may be suitable for many people. **What do you dislike about Dacast?** I highly recommend that you do not use the Dacast API; the API is extremely weak compared to the competition. The current API that is publically available uses their old platform. When using the legacy platform and API, there are multiple issues - the main one being that macOS and iOs users can not view the live stream without enabling cookies. Additionally, this API only provides limited post-event analytics with virtually no support for live analytics. The company is aware of this and they have since upgraded their platform (mid-2020 to mid-2021); however, they have not updated the API yet leaving customers like us in the dark. Support is hit-or-miss; we either receive amazing support (from Sales and Account Management) or our emails go unanswered unless we follow up multiple times (Technical). **What problems is Dacast solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are using the Dacast API to build an application that has video live streaming as one of multiple components. ### 6. As a long term user of five years, Dacast has provided a stable platform to meet our streaming needs at a reasonable cost. They have excellent customer and support services that have been quick to address any issues we have had quickly and professionally. Recommend them often... **What do you dislike about Dacast?** There have been delays when bandwidth has been exceeded but Dacast helped us to address this by buying extra bandwidth at a reasonable cost to keep this from happening. That they also let us roll-over the unused bandwidth from month to month is a lifesaver. **What problems is Dacast solving and how is that benefiting you?** As mentioned above, we had a problem with running out of bandwidth and Dacast worked with us to solve the issue by purchasing extra. Dacast has been essential to allowing us to support our kids, especially during the COVID crisis and allows us to highlight the programs and events to them, their families and community. ### 9. Lack of follow thru. **Recommendations to others considering Dacast:** Reliability once the stream is going is great, tech issues along the way and lack of follow thru from Acct Manager to tech support has been below expectations. I shouldn't have to seek follow up when I am told I would have follow-up. **What problems is Dacast solving and how is that benefiting you?** The platform itself is awesome! It has revolutionized our sports where we can't have fans physically present. ### 10. It's so easy to use and very intuitive. The entry point is also affordable. **What do you dislike about Dacast?** Sometimes our streaming fails. Maybe it is due to our internet connection. We don't blame DaCast for this. The pandemic is really affecting our internet. Hopefully, when the situation normalizes, we will be able to enjoy the full benefits of DaCast. **What problems is Dacast solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are able to broadcast live on our website and other platforms very easily. Since we are using another streaming tool, DaCast helps us to stream using RTMP, which is excellent. Hopefully, we can avail of a higher plan so that we can broadcast longer. We haven't tried this tool with large events. Maybe in the future, we will do so.
