## Cratejoy Reviews
  ### 1. Cratejoy’s Rising Fees and Weak Dispute Support Hurt Sellers!

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael E. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 01, 2026

**What do you like best about Cratejoy?**

Createjoy provides a way to sell subscription boxes to customers who might not otherwise discover your website or product.

**What do you dislike about Cratejoy?**

Fees Fees and more fees. They used to be $39.00 a month and had outstanding customer service and cared about their clients the sellers.
They raised their prices to $79.00 and gave a month or less notice of this change. Their customer service has majorly tanked and it seems they only care about their bottom line and not the seller.
They charge sellers fees on top of this for each subscription which I understand but they also charge the customer a fee, which is not fair to the customer or the seller.
Their dispute process is a joke. I had a customer with auto renewal turned on and they disputed this charge because they forgot to cancel the renewal. I was charged a $15 charge back fee when this was a clear case of the customer forgot and disputed it with her bank instead of doing the correct thing with Cratejoy. Cratejoy did nothing to correct this aside form telling the customer to drop the dispute. Thankfully I did not send out the renewal box because the customer would have the box and I would be out the product and the dispute charge of $15.00.
This is not the first time this has happened to me either where customers cancel after a renewal has happened and a box has been sent out.
Also customers of cratejoy can leave reviews on sellers pages even if they have not subscribed to that box which is unfair to the seller if the customer is confused on where they purchased their items from.
They stared out wonderful but have gone to the bottom of the barrel and sadly there are not that many options out there for subscription box services.

**What problems is Cratejoy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Get your subscription box out to their cliental.

  ### 2. Site Littered with Fake Reviews, Overpriced Fees, Overcomplicated Software

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andy H. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 05, 2021

**What do you like best about Cratejoy?**

Cratejoy is a great way to get visibility for a subscription business if you're new. The site offers PR opportunities as well for business owners, if you jump through all of their hoops to be featured.

**What do you dislike about Cratejoy?**

The site is littered with fake reviews. When you contact the company, they won't remove them even if the review is clearly for a different product. When you contact the reviews, they want paid to remove the reviews, which is clearly a scam. The site software is also difficult to use, and the fees charged add up as the charge a fee on top of your payment processor.

**Recommendations to others considering Cratejoy:**

I would strongly suggest setting up your own website first, as the fees and the review scams on Cratejoy make it unfriendly for small businesses.

**What problems is Cratejoy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cratejoy is an opportunity to find new customers. Unfortunately, it's also an opportunity to be scammed.

  ### 3. If you like easy to use (or even functional) UX steer clear.

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David I. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 07, 2021

**What do you like best about Cratejoy?**

It fills a critical niche in being one of the only services built around monthly recurring services. The Marketplace is a good selling tool too.

**What do you dislike about Cratejoy?**

Using their UX is like using a Slip-n-Slide covered with broken glass. Amateurish doesn't begin to cover how bad it is. You might be better off typing each packing slip by hand than trying to export them.

**What problems is Cratejoy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Access to the marketplace and a ground-up recurring fee service.

  ### 4. Terrible Company for Merchants

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Apparel & Fashion | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 31, 2021

**What do you like best about Cratejoy?**

Literally nothing they take your payment and provide a terrible service. I have 4 subscription boxes with cratejoy and they have terrible service and a terrible support team.

**What do you dislike about Cratejoy?**

If your a merchant just run. Don't even think about starting your subscription with these guys. Their support team is terrible and not accountable for anything. My site has been dark for 3 days without them being able to connect the domain. It's a simple thing that any comoany like shopify does.

**What problems is Cratejoy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They are a subscription box platform a very bad tech company who cannot even do the basic tasks

  ### 5. Misleading fee structure, no transparency

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2020

**What do you like best about Cratejoy?**

The system that Cratejoy uses works well. Subscriptions were processed on a regular schedule and are pretty much hands off to maintain.

**What do you dislike about Cratejoy?**

The fees that you pay are not clearly explained. I ended up missing $2000 in revenue because we signed up for a subscription with Cratejoy that was misrepresented as reducing the fee per transaction. At the time that I signed up in 2019, it was not explained that we would be paying the absurd 11% fee for sales on the marketplace. Instead, I was led to believe that we would pay the lower rate because we had the subscription. This turned out to be false and it took me quite a while to realize this as the true fees are not listed ANYWHERE on Cratejoy's site. Instead, I had to log into my Stripe account and physically go into one of my Cratejoy transactions to view the amount that they took.

I intend to cut ties with them as soon as I can without damaging subscriber relationships. This is a warning to others that are interested in using Cratejoy: There is a better way to do business. Don't waste your time with them and their deceptive practices. Invest in yourself and save the cost of using their services.

**Recommendations to others considering Cratejoy:**

Think about what you are trying to accomplish. Can you afford to give away money for every single transaction? Could you put in just a little more effort and make your own website that does exactly what Cratejoy does and save yourself the middle man? Remember, Cratejoy is a BUSINESS and they do not care about you personally. They only exist to make MONEY however they can legally, even if it ends up hurting your business in the long run.

**What problems is Cratejoy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They don't do anything I wasn't already doing on my main website. We gained about 10% of our subscribers through Cratejoy.

  ### 6. Great for subscriptions - not as great for e-commerce.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Felicity G. | Co-Owner | Chief Innovator , Consumer Goods, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 25, 2019

**What do you like best about Cratejoy?**

If you're wanting to start a subscription service, Cratejoy is truly the best option in my opinion. It's literally made for subscription commerce and they're always working on something new and improving on existing features.

**What do you dislike about Cratejoy?**

Reporting isn't what it should be and if you want to run a true e-commerce business on the side, it's not the best. I do think they are now working with Shopify but, I haven't experienced that. It also sucks that their marketplace typically comes in higher on search - they get more $ from subscribers coming through their marketplace - you get less.

**Recommendations to others considering Cratejoy:**

I'd think about whether or not you really want to do just subscription or if you want to run an e-commerce shop, too.

**What problems is Cratejoy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None as of right now. The client I work with is migrating complete to Shopify and ReCharge because of issues with Cratejoy. They have been helpful with the migration, however.

  ### 7. Best platform ever for your subscription box

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 20, 2019

**What do you like best about Cratejoy?**

Easy to use, Integrates with several apps, marketplace feature will help you to get your first subscribers pretty quick.

**What do you dislike about Cratejoy?**

No chat option or phone number for immediate support, only via email.

**Recommendations to others considering Cratejoy:**

Best platform ever for your subscription box!

**What problems is Cratejoy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

All my operations and daily basis tasks are done through the platform, easy and simple to use.

  ### 8. Frustrating and Unreliable.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Goods | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 26, 2018

**What do you like best about Cratejoy?**

A valuable marketplace to test a product/service, but not an ideal place to grow one. The entry-level articles are helpful to the uninitiated.

**What do you dislike about Cratejoy?**

Cratejoy is a brilliant idea that is poorly executed. The ever changing staff is new to the industry and consistently underperforms. The backend is plagued with integration problems and is not as customizable as other alternatives. Tickets go unresolved for months, even years. Blame is displaced and never owned.

**Recommendations to others considering Cratejoy:**

Look elsewhere.

**What problems is Cratejoy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When we first launched with Cratejoy, we incurred $6,000+ in fraudulent orders in the first few months. Since Cratejoy would not allow us access to the Stripe Radar fraud prevention suite and Cratejoy itself had limited fraud prevention methods, there was nothing we could do to stop the fraudulent orders. As a result, we started our business at a significant loss. Cratejoy has refused to take ownership of this problem. As time went on, each month presented a new problem: coupons were being applied twice, customers were charged but no orders were created, our website was frozen and not editable. Each time we reached out to Cratejoy, we were met with a new bright-eyed employee who had little awareness of Cratejoy's legacy of problems. We even flew to Denver to meet with Cratejoy at the SUBTA conference. Despite being assured face-to-face that our concerns would be addressed... 6 months later, still no follow-up. Cratejoy's latest project, a Shopify app, has been plagued with delays and false promises. It's become abundantly clear why growing subscription companies leave Cratejoy for better waters.

  ### 9. Best subscription box website platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2019

**What do you like best about Cratejoy?**

This is the best subscription box-specific website platform I’ve found - they have everything you need right out of the gate from website templates, recurring billing, shipping and postage, and more

**What do you dislike about Cratejoy?**

The website templates are a little limited in terms of design like fonts, formats, etc

**What problems is Cratejoy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cratejoy provides all the important elements I need to run my subscription box business

  ### 10. Easy for everybody! Businesses and customers.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Teresa C. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 06, 2018

**What do you like best about Cratejoy?**

Subscription boxes are so fun! I love that Cratejoy does all the hard work for you. Their straightforward and concise platform helps you set up your kits and business plan. Before you know it - you're ready to take subscribers and get going. Then they take care of all the details - the dates, the payments, the reviews. You just follow their plan and it begins to flow smoothly and steadily.

**What do you dislike about Cratejoy?**

I do wish they had a better plan for dealing with subscription messages.

**Recommendations to others considering Cratejoy:**

Review and understand the dates and billing early on. Learn what they are telling the customers on their end.

**What problems is Cratejoy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cratejoy handles all of the payments, keeps track of the mailing dates, helps me send shipping notices and takes care of the reviews. All of these tasks would be difficult and tedious if I had to do them.
