  ### 7. A good CMS, but still improvable

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Paolo N. | Front End Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 14, 2025

**What do you like best about Butter CMS?**

I like the will to improve and to make the product better. The feeling of being heard is a great thing for those (like me) who work daily with Butter CMS for developing purposes.
For example, the filters were added in the Collections page turned out to be pretty useful.
Overall, it's quite easy to use and today I can say I feel comfortable.

**What do you dislike about Butter CMS?**

On the big picture, the graphical interface has improved, but I don't feel comfortable with the new Collections landing page. I would like to land on the page and have the items already divided by collection.
For what concerns the single item of a collection, it would be crucial to have the possibility to compare the current version with the previous ones.
Last but not least, it would be nice to be able to retrieve multiple pages with a single http request.

**What problems is Butter CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It makes the template I develop dynamic and editable also from people who don't work on the code, so that I don't need to deploy my code everytime a text has to be updated.

  ### 8. ButterCMS is improving, but there's room for growth

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Salvatore S. | Front-End Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 14, 2025

**What do you like best about Butter CMS?**

The recent improvements to ButterCMS have been a great step forward. The new dashboard introduces a trash bin for deleted items and better version management, allowing users to compare two versions. Additionally, the UX/UI has seen some minor but effective refinements, making navigation smoother. These updates make content management more efficient and user-friendly, which is a big plus for both developers and marketers. Another strong point is the customer support, which is always available, quick to respond, and open to feedback.

**What do you dislike about Butter CMS?**

Despite the improvements, some issues still need attention. Version comparison is not yet available for collection items, which limits flexibility. Additionally, when a media file is deleted, it remains accessible for some time due to caching issues, and there is no indication of whether it is still being used elsewhere. Furthermore, while the Collections section has seen functional improvements, its UI still needs refinement to enhance usability. Fixing these aspects would greatly improve the overall experience.

**What problems is Butter CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ButterCMS provides great flexibility in managing the content of our website and app, allowing us to make our assets dynamic without the need for deployments. This enables our team to update content quickly and efficiently, reducing development overhead and improving the overall workflow, streamlining content updates without requiring code changes.

  ### 9. Game-Changer for Headless CMS Builds with Unmatched Flexibility

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chris C. | Founder, CEO, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 05, 2022

**What do you like best about Butter CMS?**

ButterCMS does a great job at tackling a lot of pain points for migrating, developing, and managing a headless website experience. If you're new to the platform, it's easy to jump in and get going right away. The documentation is superb, and all the tools have videos showcasing each feature.

The content modelling experience is familiar from a developers perspective. Features like the repeater and conditional fields adds a lot of flexibilty for those clients that demand heavy customization. The components also give you code snippets, allowing you to adapt to whatever programming your website requires. This has allowed us to get into various other frameworks without a lot of ramp-up. The built-in blog features and page types simplifies ways to architect your content.

Compared to other headless CMS platforms, Butter offer's the most competitive pricing model available for all business sizes, from startups to enterprise. Pricing has always been a major barrier for smaller companies who want to make the leap to headless. Additionally, the customer support is byfar the best within the industry. We always get a response very quickly. You're also getting direct access with the engineering team instead of getting routed through multiple levels of agents.

ButterCMS is incredibly open to feedback in terms of platform features, and we've seen things that weren't in the roadmap being added later on.
Tech debt is also a heavy consideration when using a SaaS a platform like ButterCMS. You don't have to take on the burdeon of updating dependencies and servers. Butter handles all the maintenance, scaling, and security. This allows us to focus on delivering high-wality services to our clients without worrying about underlying infrastructure.

Performance is stellar and on par with what you would expect for a headless CMS. We've never experienced any issues with downtime. If you're looking to transition to a headless architecture, ButterCMS makes that transition a seamless, rewarding experience.

**What do you dislike about Butter CMS?**

ButterCMS has a smaller ecosystem in terms of third-party integrations. The very nature of using an headless architecture that's uses API integrations doesn't really require plugins. However, it would be nice when working with other platforms to see a ButterCMS connection already setup, particurarily for ecommerce. It would also be neat to see more starter templates that include a lot of the standard features. This would help with smaller sites getting to launch much faster. In theory you can already use a react-based template and just connect to ButterCMS, so it's a nice-to-have addition for just cutting some time off development. Additionally it would be great to have more features in terms of cloning an entire website to version.

**What problems is Butter CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There are various problems that ButterCMS solves with it's offering:

One of the major problems that many large organizations face is the process of transitioning to a headless architecture can be a major investment in terms of time and resources. This is probably the biggest barrier I see for businesses who have the desire, but lack the large budgets and resources to commit. ButterCMS solves this by having a platform that's easy to dive into without a lot of experience. It simplifies something that doesn't need to be overly-complicated. With it's robust library of components, you can have the flexibility to scale your content and marketing campaigns with ease.

Businesses can be nimble with managing content and can make changes without the need of a developer. Since each component gives you code snippets to integrate into your code-base, it speeds up development pretty significantly. This means, faster launch times, and cost-efficiencies from a development perspective. The interface is incredibly intuitive which helps empower content manager's who don't have a lot of technical experience.

Decoupling the frontend from the backend, allows developers to work with their preferred languages and frameworks. Whether that's Next.js or .net, Butter empowers developers with smart productivity tooling which helps with reducing time-to-market.

  ### 10. Great Headless CMS

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nikki B. | Senior Software Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2024

**What do you like best about Butter CMS?**

The headless nature makes it incredibly flexible from a developer perspective. You can use any technology stack you'd like to make an awesome website that's highly customizable by content authors. Super straightforward to implement. The support team is also really responsive and helpful.

**What do you dislike about Butter CMS?**

There are some quirks/missing features that make things a little less smooth for content authors in my opinion. It would huge if we could group fields in custom components to help keep things organized. For really powerful components with tons of options, the long list of editable fields can get pretty hard to navigate. Being able to organize them into collapsable groups would a huge improvement to the experience.

**What problems is Butter CMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Butter CMS was the perfect option for our client who needed to migrate away from their previous CMS. Developing the website (we used Next.js) was quick and easy, allowing the client to migrate their content over with speed.
