"To-dos helped us keep responsibilities clear during onboarding"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Basecamp?

To-dos have made onboarding much easier to manage and follow, because each step has a clear owner and due date instead of being scattered across a checklist, an email thread, and someone’s memory. We use Project Templates to give every cohort the same baseline structure, To-do Lists for HR, IT, and managers, Schedule for key dates, and Docs & Files for policies and other onboarding materials. Automatic Check-ins are especially helpful for recurring questions, like whether anyone is blocked or what HR still needs from another team. People can respond asynchronously, which lets me get a reliable status update without scheduling yet another meeting just to gather progress. Message Boards work better for decisions or announcements that need to stay visible over time, while Campfire and Pings are better suited to quicker, day-to-day conversations. For lighter internal workflows, Card Tables give us enough structure to move work from New to Reviewing, Waiting on Manager, and Completed without having to build a complicated process. I also use The Lineup to spot weeks when onboarding, performance cycles, and other People initiatives start piling on top of each other. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Basecamp?

Basecamp 5 introduced several useful improvements, including Markdown, tables, voice notes, CLI, and API updates. That said, the navigation changes can still create friction for occasional users. Someone in HR or management who only opens Basecamp when they have an onboarding task will notice a moved template or an archived-project view far more than a team that works in the platform every day. On our side, we try to keep the project structure predictable so people don’t have to relearn where everything is each time they return. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
