What do you like best about AWS Shield?

The biggest advantage of AWS Shield is that it delivers always-on DDoS protection without the need for dedicated security appliances or complicated network configurations. AWS Shield Standard automatically protects AWS resources from common infrastructure-level attacks, while Shield Advanced adds stronger detection and mitigation, improved visibility, and access to the AWS DDoS Response Team (DRT).

Its native integration with CloudFront, Route 53, Elastic Load Balancing, and AWS WAF also makes it straightforward to harden internet-facing applications without having to change the application architecture. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about AWS Shield?

Many of the most valuable capabilities—such as detailed attack diagnostics, proactive engagement, and cost protection—are only available with AWS Shield Advanced. What problems is AWS Shield solving and how is that benefiting you?

AWS Shield helps protect internet-facing applications from distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks that could otherwise impact application availability.

For example, for a customer-facing web application running behind Application Load Balancer and CloudFront, AWS Shield automatically detected and mitigated unusually high volumes of malicious network traffic targeting public endpoints. When combined with AWS WAF, malicious requests were filtered out while legitimate users were still able to access the application without any noticeable performance degradation.
