## AWS Config Reviews
  ### 1. Clear Visibility and Continuous Compliance Tracking with AWS Config

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Atharva P. | Cloud BI Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 03, 2026

**What do you like best about AWS Config?**

What I like most about AWS Config is that it continuously tracks AWS resource configurations and gives clear visibility into infrastructure changes over time. It supports governance across cloud environments by recording configuration history and automatically evaluating resources against defined compliance rules.

For organizations managing multiple AWS accounts and services, this makes it much easier to spot configuration drift, security violations, and other non-compliant resources without relying on manual audits.

**What do you dislike about AWS Config?**

The service can generate a large volume of configuration records in complex environments, which may increase costs if not managed properly. Creating and maintaining custom compliance rules also requires some expertise, especially for organization-wide governance requirements.

**What problems is AWS Config solving and how is that benefiting you?**

AWS Config helps solve cloud governance, compliance, and configuration management challenges.

Example:
We use AWS Config to monitor whether S3 buckets are publicly accessible, verify encryption settings on RDS databases, and ensure security groups comply with internal standards. Instead of manually auditing resources, AWS Config continuously evaluates configurations and alerts teams when resources become non-compliant.

This significantly improves security posture and reduces the effort required for compliance reviews.

  ### 2. Powerful Compliance Tool with Seamless Integration, But Setup and UI Need Improvement

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mahendran D. | Senior System Engineer, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 19, 2025

**What do you like best about AWS Config?**

I also appreciate that AWS Config integrates seamlessly with other AWS services such as CloudTrail, Security Hub, and Lambda, enabling automated remediation and consistent governance. Its Config Rules feature is especially powerful for enforcing compliance policies in real time.

Overall, AWS Config helps maintain operational excellence and security posture by giving a clear, historical view of how configurations evolve over time.

**What do you dislike about AWS Config?**

Another challenge is that initial setup and rule customization require a good understanding of AWS resource types and policies. Writing and managing custom Config Rules (Lambda-based) can be time-consuming compared to out-of-the-box solutions.

Lastly, Config’s UI and reporting capabilities are somewhat limited — integrating with services like Athena or Security Hub is often needed for more advanced analytics or compliance dashboards.

**What problems is AWS Config solving and how is that benefiting you?**

AWS Config continuously records, audits, and evaluates resource configurations, allowing us to:

Detect configuration drift and identify non-compliant resources in real time.

Maintain audit readiness by providing a detailed history of configuration changes.

Automate compliance checks using AWS Config Rules and trigger remediation actions.

Improve troubleshooting by understanding when and how a resource’s state changed.

Overall, it benefits us by improving governance, security posture, and operational consistency, while reducing the manual effort required for compliance and change tracking.
