AWS Backup AWS Backup is a fully managed service that centralizes and automates data protection across AWS services and hybrid workloads. It offers core data protection features, ransomware recovery capabilities, and compliance insights, simplifying data protection at exabyte scale. ## AWS Backup Reviews
 ### 1. AWS Backup: Finally Making Backup Management Boring (In a Good Way

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Irina B. | Co-founder and Executive Vice President (EVP) at D&I Media, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2026

**What do you like best about AWS Backup?**

What I like most about AWS Backup is how it centralizes and automates what is usually a very fragmented, manual process. Instead of managing backups separately across services, you can define policies once and apply them across resources like EBS, RDS, and DynamoDB. The built-in scheduling, retention rules, and cross-region/cross-account backup capabilities make it easy to stay compliant and resilient without constant oversight. It basically turns backup management into a “set it and trust it” system, which is a huge win for both efficiency and risk reduction.

**What do you dislike about AWS Backup?**

One of the biggest downsides of AWS Backup is that it can feel overly complex and not very transparent when something goes wrong. Error messages and job failures aren’t always easy to diagnose, which can slow down troubleshooting. The pricing model can also be a bit opaque, especially when you factor in cross-region storage and restore costs. On top of that, while it centralizes backups, not every AWS service is equally supported or configurable, so you sometimes still have to manage edge cases outside the platform.

**What problems is AWS Backup solving and how is that benefiting you?**

AWS Backup solves the problem of fragmented, inconsistent backup management across different AWS services. Instead of configuring and monitoring backups separately for things like databases, volumes, and file systems, it brings everything into one centralized system with standardized policies. That reduces the risk of missed backups or misconfigurations, which is a huge deal when you’re responsible for data integrity.
The benefit for me is both operational and strategic: it saves time by automating scheduling and retention, lowers the chance of human error, and makes compliance much easier with built-in auditing and reporting. It also gives peace of mind knowing that recovery options like cross-region backups are already in place if something goes wrong, without having to manually orchestrate disaster recovery plans.

 ### 2. Fully-managed Backups for AWS Aurora, EC2, and DynamoDB, among others

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kovid R. | Head of Solutions Architecture, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 21, 2026

**What do you like best about AWS Backup?**

I used AWS Backup at one of my workplaces a couple of years ago. At the time, I was building a solid cloud foundations module to be deployed in a customer’s AWS environment. They needed a fully managed solution for EC2, RDS, and DynamoDB backups and we used AWS Backup for that.

AWS Backup integrated well with all the services I wanted to backup within the environment and it was easy to use with Terraform. I think we saved a lot of time and money by not going the custom backup solution route.

**What do you dislike about AWS Backup?**

I didn’t see many downsides to it. At the time, the only real issue was that the Terraform providers were slightly out of date, which became an extra consideration for me when working with AWS Backup.

**What problems is AWS Backup solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves the problem of having to manage backups manually, which can be risky and cause issues for a variety of reasons. Overall, I think it’s a solid way to offload and automate some of the DevOps grunt work, so backups don’t depend on someone remembering to do them.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gabriel G. | Senior DevOps | Oracle DBA, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 02, 2020

**What do you like best about AWS Backup?**

The ease of configuring your EBS or Disk EC2, to create daily snapshots is super easy and intuitive, it allows you to configure different snapshots, by zone, parameterizing each EC2 or EBS, from an idle location.

I am really amazed at how this tool can back up 2TB of our instances in just minutes.

Without a doubt, it is a tool, which parameterizes each backup by day, week or month, and takes a complete photo of each of your EC2, EBS and S3.

**What do you dislike about AWS Backup?**

So far, so good, it works perfectly for me to back up my EC2 disks.

Maybe it is a bit expensive since, in order to have the tools enabled, you must be able to have EC2 plans, which has a cost according to the structure a bit high.

Although it is easy to use, for an advanced user, for a user with zero or little experience, it is a bit complicated to understand how to configure a backup plan, for a zone and with specific rules.

**Recommendations to others considering AWS Backup:**

If you don't have an Amazon AWS account, this is the time to purchase it

Amazon AWS Backup is a comprehensive solution in the company's infrastructure because it gives you security and confidence when backing up EC2 or EBS instances

**What problems is AWS Backup solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before they had to be doing a weekly snapshot manually of my EC2s, but the AWS backup could solve this, backing up our EC2 disks.

At first I had no idea how AWS worked and when I tried to do it alone, it was a bit complex, but our company has business support, and I had the support guide from Amazon.

And you can configure several solutions and define rules by territory, to be able to take snapshots of all our instances, in different periods, either daily, weekly or monthly.
