## Ansys CFX Reviews
  ### 1. Robust solver that I have used

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Madhan Kumar P. | Post-Doctoral Fellow, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2022

**What do you like best about Ansys CFX?**

It is the best robust solver that is more suitable for the turbomachinery applications.

**What do you dislike about Ansys CFX?**

It lacks some of the k-epsilon family turbulence models.

**What problems is Ansys CFX solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used it to simulate the performance characteristics of Wells turbine

  ### 2. ANSYS CFX Review

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Oil & Energy | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 22, 2021

**What do you like best about Ansys CFX?**

The only thing that makes ANSYS CFX different and unique from Ansys Fluent is its utility that allows the user to directly enter the profile(eg. parabolic) of parameters like velocity instead of writing a User Defined Function for the same

The GUI of CFX is pleasing to the eye and at the same time user friendly, making it a lot easier to identify the required fields.

It comes with a post processing utility(CFD-Post) which has a lot of features to post process the results and use expressions, planes, etc to compute derived parameters. Contours colors are pleasing to the eye!

**What do you dislike about Ansys CFX?**

It does not have its own meshing utility and the mesh needs to be imported from other utility such as Fluent Meshing/ICEM CFD. But since it is a solver in itself, I would not consider it as a disadvantage. Rest all is up to the mark as far as functionality is concerned.

One thing which I think they can do is provide flexibility to the user modify the stuffs inside the black box based on the requirement of their problem as is the case with OpenFOAM.

**Recommendations to others considering Ansys CFX:**

Interface is better than fluent solver and user friendly as well. Post processing utility is same as that of fluent. However, between Ansys Fluent(whole Workbench) and CFX, I would recommend Workbench since it has all the utilities + you can modify the functionalities by adding UDF

**What problems is Ansys CFX solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have prepared numerous case files of simulation of a turbine component using Ansys CFD in order to put them into a cluster for computation. It serves as a very good utility in case one is planning to run multiple runs by varing the input parameters on the same geometry

  ### 3. Ansys CFX for refrigeration companies

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Airlines/Aviation | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2020

**What do you like best about Ansys CFX?**

Multi-phase modeling, User functions, and GUI. It is very easy and intuitive.
The numerical scheme is based on Finite Volume Methods. It supports multi-phase flows with no mass transfer.

**What do you dislike about Ansys CFX?**

ANSYS CFX does not support boiling and condensation under their multi-phase models.

**Recommendations to others considering Ansys CFX:**

Integrate boiling and condensation models

**What problems is Ansys CFX solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Multi-phase flows through ducts and pipes.

  ### 4. Easier to work than Ansys Fluent

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lucas M. | Ph.D. Candidate, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Ansys CFX?**

The interface of Ansys CFX is much neater than Ansys Fluent. I found it much easier to define materials and boundaries in CFX. Also, this will allow me to get much more accurate results compared to a simples Thermal transient analysis

**What do you dislike about Ansys CFX?**

The main issue, in my opinion, is the lack of deep information readily available for every user. Sometimes you need to email them and this will take time to solve the issues.

**Recommendations to others considering Ansys CFX:**

Study before implementing. Boundary conditions, topology share, and other things are not always straight forward.

**What problems is Ansys CFX solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am developing a cooling system for a mechanical gripper. CFX has been helpful to confirm and improve the accuracy of my initial estimations made with Thermal Transient analysis. The flow simulation is much more accurate than the film coefficient boundary condition in thermal transient.

  ### 5. Flow analysis of turbo machines

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Airlines/Aviation | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 20, 2020

**What do you like best about Ansys CFX?**

In the CFX, adaptive networking can be used for GGI interfaces and single domains without restricted physics.

It is a software that has a very high performance in turbo machines and has proven itself in this field.

CFX is particularly good for turbo machine and solid multiphase problems as it can solve combined volume fractions. And common grid interfaces are very useful.

**What do you dislike about Ansys CFX?**

CFX can't handle a true 2D mesh geometry. It can handle a pseudo-2D mesh which would be a 1 element thickness 3D mesh geometry.

Gpu usage is not available for CFX.

**Recommendations to others considering Ansys CFX:**

If you want to make flow analysis about turbo machines, it is a software that you can get the safest results.

**What problems is Ansys CFX solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In the verification of my radial fan design, I performed the analysis of the system at a specific rpm in ANSYS CFX software.
I had the opportunity to interpret the speeds on the fan blade surfaces according to the results.

  ### 6. Advanced simulations with great results for what is required in CFD

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Manuel Y. | Analista de Gestión de la Calidad, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 01, 2019

**What do you like best about Ansys CFX?**

The simulations obtained are very advanced, showing great results in the movement of fluids in the different states from which an understanding of their movement dynamics is required. I had the opportunity to perform fluid analysis in convergent-divergent nozzles for the study of shock waves that occur in supersonic flow and obtained impressive and illustrative results of the thermodynamic properties that occur in such flow.

**What do you dislike about Ansys CFX?**

Many times errors occur in modeling that are not easy to detect, and generally not much help is available to start using the software, which is a bit annoying at the beginning. The processing requirements are a bit high, so a good computer is needed to run the simulations.

**Recommendations to others considering Ansys CFX:**

As an Engineer, I recommend this software to all students and professionals who need to perform fluid simulations for their dynamic and thermodynamic analysis.

**What problems is Ansys CFX solving and how is that benefiting you?**

At the university, we solved many problems in Incompressible Flow Dynamics, especially in convergent-divergent nozzles, and thanks to ANSYS, we were able to learn about the study of shock waves that occur both at the exit of nozzles and inside them. As an engineer, it is very beautiful to be able to observe how the dynamics of fluid movement occur, and with ANSYS, this becomes possible in a clear and efficient way.

  ### 7. Helped me improve my computional skills

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2020

**What do you like best about Ansys CFX?**

Post Processing is very helpful. Downsides so many steps of process for loading the software.

**What do you dislike about Ansys CFX?**

Not specifically, Downsides is the process of running simulations

**Recommendations to others considering Ansys CFX:**

For Post processing and 3D simulations it is very helpful

**What problems is Ansys CFX solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used it for my post-processing mostly and i have given introductory lecture to students.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Aviation & Aerospace | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 18, 2019

**What do you like best about Ansys CFX?**

The name of the function I need to use in the fluent module is itself a self-explanatory. I do not need to learn this tool from someone else.

**What do you dislike about Ansys CFX?**

For the 3-D model with the high number of grid point, it requires huge time to run and also need high memory. I understand that it's the requirement for this tool. However, this is the thing which mostly irritating me.

**What problems is Ansys CFX solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used to analyze the CAD model and observe the fluid behavior over it. So, mostly I used it to solve the CFD problem. The useful thing is its shows result in different color codes.

  ### 9. Very convenient

**What do you like best about Ansys CFX?**

Ansys Cfx is a very simple looking program- with power. The simulations are easily set up and you can check the results fastly.

**What do you dislike about Ansys CFX?**

Some empirical constants/variables are not explained in the documentation, so it's a try and error.

**Recommendations to others considering Ansys CFX:**

It's way better than fluent.

**What problems is Ansys CFX solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cavitation Modeling- there are several mathematical models on that.
