What do you like best about AlmaLinux 8 Server w/Updates with Support by Supported Images?

As a web hosting provider in New Zealand, what we like best about AlmaLinux 8 Server with Updates and Support is the peace of mind it gives us and our clients. After the CentOS 8 end of life situation, we needed something stable, reliable and long term supported — AlmaLinux 8 ticked every box.

The supported images with regular updates means our servers are always patched and secure without us having to do anything manually. Security updates arrive quickly and consistently which is critical when you are responsible for hosting multiple client websites and applications.

The fact that it is 1:1 binary compatible with RHEL 8 was a game changer for us. We migrated our entire shared hosting infrastructure from CentOS 8 to AlmaLinux 8 and everything — cPanel, WHM, all server configurations, scripts and automation — worked straight away without a single issue. That kind of compatibility saves enormous time and reduces risk significantly.

Our clients prefer AlmaLinux 8 above any other Linux distribution we offer. It is stable, fast and familiar to anyone who has used CentOS or RHEL before. We have been running it across our dedicated servers and shared hosting environment for over a year now and the uptime and performance have been outstanding. What do you dislike about AlmaLinux 8 Server w/Updates with Support by Supported Images?

Honestly there is not much to dislike. The only thing we occasionally notice is that some older software packages built specifically for CentOS need minor adjustments to run on AlmaLinux 8. Also the community, while helpful, is still growing compared to the large established CentOS community that existed before. But these are very minor points and do not take away from how solid and reliable the platform is overall. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is AlmaLinux 8 Server w/Updates with Support by Supported Images solving and how is that benefiting you?

The biggest problem it solved for us was finding a reliable long term replacement after CentOS 8 was discontinued. As a hosting company we could not afford to be on an unsupported OS — security vulnerabilities and compliance risks were too high. AlmaLinux 8 with its supported images and regular updates solved this completely.

The automatic updates through supported images means we no longer worry about manually tracking and applying security patches across our servers. Everything stays current and secure in the background which saves our team several hours every week.

For our clients the benefit is simple — their websites and applications run on a secure, stable and actively maintained platform. We have not had a single security incident related to the OS since switching to AlmaLinux 8. That kind of reliability directly builds trust with our customers and reduces our support workload significantly.
